Big Thanks to FishWick, very generous to let me have an ICM for nought, so i got the ICM and installed it......but alas, it hasn't rectified the fault! Damn! Turns out the fault doesn't follow the output when swapped with 1/6 or 5/2 as I originally thought (I must have got muddled up!), it stays put!! So it seems to be the replacement coil has the same fault as the original it replaced, as both demonstrate that the middle coil output for cylinders 3 & 4 are dead!! Surely it cant be that much of a coincidence? I've swapped leads so i know it cant be that or the spark plugs. Suppose i'm going to have to go and find another coilpack and see if that fixes it!! Serve me right for thinking this was going to be an easy fix.

Thanks everybody, what a choice! Am still interested in the konigsports, might try to do a deal, but if that doesnt work out the boge setup looks like a good deal too, its such a shame I'm at at the bottom end of the country!

Hello people, Just thought i would post this in the hope someone out there can back up my thoughts on an issue i am having with my c. It all started with a intermittant starting problem, sometimes it would start and run, other time it would turn over but not fire up. A quick search on here gave me reason to suspect the fuel pump, but before i had chance to replace it, i then got a misfire, and looking under the bonnet, smoke was coming from the coilpack and turned out no.3 terminal was melting! More research, suggested i needed to replace the coilpack, and i decided due to cost of replacement of the oem pack (and the reliability issues) to do the ford coilpack modification. Got the parts for £10 from the scrap yard, and it was relatively simple to do, fitted it to the c, and fired up...... rough! After checking connections, all correct, but no spark coming from both terminals of the middle coil (3/4). So after more searching it seems that a faulty ICM can cause this, and it was no.3 that failed on the original one. Anyone else got/ had the same issue? I have posted some pictures to show the original and modified packs.

Thanks. Very nice, but a little out of my budget at the moment! I was looking up to about 200, but I appreciate they are a good set!

C'mon you lot! What have you got in the far reaches of your sheds and garages?! I hate buying new, so would appreciate anyone's left over/ neglected c parts looking for a new home. Good money for decent stuff, its going to go on a very well loved vr6 (1995). Thanks!

Hi, sorry to hijack the thread, but my coil pack has just gone up in a puff of smoke!! Is there much difference between the 2 makes? I have OEM ht leads. Thanks

Hello people, just finished reading through the whole of this thread! Interesting reading, but i am still unsure what to do as i can't seem to find anyone else who has the same problem as i currently have. So forgive me if i have overlooked it, but i need some advice. My 1995 vr6 seems to be running at normal temperature, and normally does exactly what its supposed to as described in this thread, except now, after start up from cold, when it reaches normal temp, if you switch off, the next time you start again, the stage 3 fan kicks in after a couple of minutes (sounds like a jet engine!),even though the temp guage reads normal, and the fan will stay on for at least 5 mins even though the guage goes down under half way to about 1/4!!!??? This happens everytime you switch on again after stopping the engine at normal temperature. The car doesnt overheat...ever. I can hear the stage 1 fan operate when idleing, and after the engine is turned off, it it is a little hot, the stage 1 fan will keep going, so no problems there, but i just cant work out why the stage 3 fan kicks in?? Any ideas? I have checked the 3 sensors for corrosion but all seem fine. Actually, now that I've just read what i put down, i would think it sounds like an air lock? What do you think? If so how can i check/ remedy that?

Thanks people!! I knew i could count on you. Think I will invest in a new set of bearings and change the shocks at the same time, I have noticed that the shocks are monroe, was that standard or have they been upgraded in the past?
-
Hi everyone, well the old girls going like a dream since the engine rebuild, but I have noticed louder than usual road noise which increases in volume as the car goes faster, I have just fitted new tyres all round and the noise is still there, and since a 600 mile round trip the noise is louder than ever but constant (no change when the clutch is depressed or coasting out of gear). There is no vibration from the steering wheel, so from searching the forum i am hoping its not the gearbox although I am now approaching 190,000 miles! I guess it could be the bearings, the top mounts are old but seem ok, can anyone else offer a few tips from there own experience? Would it be advisable to replace top mounts, suspension, etc. at the same time as doing the bearings? Any advice always gladly appreciated.

lol! Still have a few left over!?

Never mind, Had a look tonite, turned out the drivers side drive shaft managed to undo itself from the gearbox! Managed to reconnect it and its all ok again! Phew, no new gearbox for now then. Hope yours was as simple.

Hi pebisit, Did you manage to sort out the problem? My vr6 has just done exactly the same thing!! 190k on the clock, noticed over last couple of weeks that when driving had a new whirring noise, then last night drove up the road just changed gear and "Clunk!!". Exactly same as yours. Was it the gearbox or driveshaft? Would appreciate any input.

No not that, I'm talking about my wheels! Yeahhhhhhssssss!!! Got my vr6 back from the garage today.... not bad for a year off the road!!! She now drives like new again, just need to sort out some minor bits of bodywork! Mind you, she should be like new after shelling out around 2.5k in parts!! And she is still standard spec (ish)!! Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who has contributed on the forums, we would have given up long ago without all the info we found here, it took 3 tries to get a decent engine (1 bought on here... what a peice of s**t that was!!). Any ho, looking forward to summer! P.S - You can imagine the amount of spare parts I got now! Look out in the classifieds, will be posting soon!

Oh dear, its all going pear shaped!! Look guys, times are hard, we are not to blame, there are bigger forces at work, and it all happens for a reason, you should all check out zeitgeist, that will open your eyes a bit!! In the meantime, batten down the hatches, be careful and it will pass! I'm an ex-estate agent, now redundant, no job.... but its only money after all. As long as I got my family, friends and C, I'm happy! If they reposses the house, they can shove it up there a****, a few years down the line they'll be shoven credit & mortgages down your throat all over again!

So just an update for anyone who's interested...or not! Found a replacement engine on ebay, 2.9 ABV code vr6, lovely jubbly! Got delivered only to find out it was a 2.8 AAA!!! 5 months later still trying to get paypal to refund me as the return address isnt valid!!! Decided to repair original lump, skimmed it, new clutch, chain etc. Put it back together, ran but rough, undid bell housing, water everywhere!! Reckon its the bottom end water jacket thats the problem now so need a new block! Bugger. So am now looking for another 2.9 engine, and have a 2.8 and the original 2.9!! Thinking of starting a new ebay shop for corrado engine spares!! Got to get my money back somehow! I do also have a 3.9 v8 range rover engine sitting doing nothing, wonder if i could get that to fit?? I could invent a new strain of corrado, the VRRRV8! Any ideas?

This ones for R1chy99. Had my rear lights smoked from a guy in St.Just. Just gave him a set of original lights in exchange and £15!! Bargain! They look really good, had them a year now and no fading. Not too chav either.

Thanks tandino, was thinking of getting a light weight flywheel, but for the cost, may as well stick with the original!

Thanks for the input guys. Unfortunately, I'm at the bottom of the world in Falmouth, Cornwall, otherwise I would really appreciate a bit of help!! Fortunately, my brother in law has come to my rescue, he's a great mechanic, but always too busy, however, pulled a few strings!! I'm gonna replace the clutch, flywheel, clutch, belt and chain (What parts/makes would be good?). Anything else I should consider, whilst the engines out?

Cant be that bad.... can it?! :brickwall:

Hi everyone, My 1995 vr6 engine has done 190,000 miles and needs a rest! I have got a younger abv code replacement, but really want to have a go at changing the engines over myself !?! Although competent, I have no prior engine or vr6 experiance! I will change the clutch at the same time, and could really do with a guide or manual. Anyone got any ideas?
-
Fantastic!! Gonna give them a call tomorrow, get it checked out and go from there! Thanks guys! If your not too far away, may see you at a Devon & Cornwall meet or next vw meet at Stithians! :notworthy:

Thanks, sounds complex!! However, I'm keeping this car till I die.....although reading through some other posts, the vr6 sc sounds fun at nearly 300bhp! Maybe I could do the same while i,ve got the engine apart!!?? However, my spare time is short, so is the cash. Looks like I need to start savin! Going to check out rk engineering though, from other posts they seem to know what they are doing, just got to find out where they are based.

Hello everyone. Been meanin to join for ages, but been havin to much fun driving my 1995 vr6 to be sat in front of this screen!! But sadly the time has come, when I cannot ignore that the old girl is'nt doing so well! We have had 5 years together, with hardly a moan or a groan, but I know I havn't been as good to her as I should have. Now pushing 175k miles, she's telling me that all is not well!! Coolant loss, and steamy exhaust ommisions suggest head gasket failure, so I am going to have to garage her and give a little tlc. So my fellow corrado chums, any ideas? I dont want to loose her, I want to get her better again, and if I'm going to take time out to do the obvious, whats the best way to do it and what other improvements should I be considering whilst I've got her head off? I am based in Falmouth, Cornwall. Anyone recommend a good guru, or role model? Your thoughts would be very much appreciated!
