Hi Guys, My ABS system hasn't been working for the past 3 months and I wasn't really concerned about it as I know ABS isn't really that important or so I thought. Although my MOT was due I thought simply disconnecting the light and they wouldn't even notice the car had ABS. Anyway the guy asked me why my ABS light wasn't working and told me it would be a failure as the ABS system is very important on cars that come with ABS as they are missing valves and such which prevent the rear wheels from locking up and so on a car with ABS that isn't working it's quite dangerous... So that means my ABS system must be working :( Anyway, tried to source a part (my left front sensor is screwed) and VW tell me they don't sell them anymore! I really didn't want to buy from euro car parts or GSF as i hear you need genuine sensors or you'll have all sorts of issues. Please help me, my car has no MOT and i need it :(

037 115 561 Anyone know if this can be used in a 9a? Also is it advisable to change your oil filter with every oil change? my last one was a year ago.

Guys, My ABS light has been on for a while now I borrowed a good vagcom off a friend and purchased the 4 pin to OBI II converter and it gives me a fault on the engine; 520; Volume/Mass Air Flow Sensor G19/G70 - open or short to ground INTERMITTENT Anyway, when i try to access the "brake" area of the system - i assume it tries to connect to the ABS controller? well the first time i got a flash of the model of my ABS unit then it disconnected and keeps saying "trying to re-establish communication to car over and over, it's almost like the ABS unit is dead or a wires gone or something, is there anywhere obvious to check? anyone had this before? I'd really like my ABS to be working this time of year :)

Hey guys, Need some assistance from you guys on the following I hope you can give me any advice you have :) Some back ground info; My 9a has 135k miles on it and has KR Cam, and that's it really. Recent replacements; fuel filter / timing belt / oil / oil filter done at 125k miles. 1. I have done some research on the 9a engine and i raised a query before that once my engine heats up it loses a lot of responsiveness and "feels" to me like it has lost about 30bhp. I have read old posts on other forums and no one seems to come to a conclusion or a fix after replacing countless things. Someone has suggested the flap inside the air box isn't closing once the engine warms up, would that really have much effect and if so whats the best way to test it? 2. This has only happened twice in the past 6 weeks, my engine just totally dies , no judder or jump like when it is about to stall just totally gone dead and takes me by supprise, i have only ever noticed this when slowing down to take a corner, i'm a bad driver and usually have the clutch fully down when im slowing down so i know it's never to do with being in the wrong gear. It happened the other day and took me be supprise before i took a corner and i went over to the wrong side of the road as the power steering and all had gone. The engine restarts fine after this. 3. At 135k miles what would you recommend i service? I'm looking to purchase; NGK spark plugs part number; BKUR7ET WIX oil filter and 10/40 oil As part of this service I'm thinking about getting a new fuel pump, is ebay the best bet for a fuel pump? i really dont want to spend a ton of money. Does the fuel pump in the tank itself need replaced? i've seen on ebay some fuel pumps supporting 500bhp if used in conjuntion with the intank fuel pump or only 400bhp if used solo. Would it be a good idea to buy this pump and use it solo and disable the in tank pump? Again, thanks for reading my post and for offering any advice, sorry if i ask some stupid questions :)
-
Hmm I found a loose nut on the actual pump itself, it was loose and i was able to tighten it a bit with my fingers and some pliers, don't know how im going to get my hand in there and tighten it properly without the help of a ramp :(

Hey, I had a quick look under the car as i noticed a puddle this morning. It appears the Powersteering pump is leaking , the dripping is actually coming from the pump itself and it's sprayed around a lot of the engine so i guess it spews out faster when the engine is running. I also checked the fluid level and it's below min now and i usually keep an eye on this. Whats the most common cause for a leak in this area? pump failure? or seal/gasket? I did notice that when turning the pump was quite noisy but always put it down to it being an old car (now has 140k miles on it) If i need a new pump (i assume i do) is it a big job to replace? and wheres best to buy one?

just thought i'd update; yup drainage hole FILLED with rust. I basically found the drainage hole by feeling inside the wheel arch, it's over to the slight left of the fuel cap, stuck a small screw driver up it a few times and cleared out all the crap. drains wonderfully now. thanks :)

hmm... had about a 15 mile journey today (most i really ever drive) felt the relay 67 and it just felt a tiny bit warm (like +1-2 degrees more than the rest)but far far far from being hot. Perhaps you have a little short in yours or it's almost dead and is drawing a lot more current than it should? let us know what happens with it
-
is it relay hot or really hot? lol  I couldn't resist - but hey, i'll check tomorrow and let you know :)

Hey My front left wing is pretty rusted and the pant has come off, the other side seems fine so im not sure what happened it :confused4: Anyway, Someone has offered me one for sale, he's only able to give me a chassis number so im unsure how to work out what year of corrado it's from, is there a difference between late and early wings/ or is it only the bonnet thats different?
-
thanks for the suggestions, never knew about that drainage hole, must be badly blocked for me to not even notice it Any way to remove the rust on it though ? i don't fancy sanding it down considering lol
-
If it rusts over and i can't put the fuel hose in and my poor engine won't start ;) thanks for the move buddy

Hi Guys, I'm sure im not alone with this issue but i've noticed that the rim of my fuel inlet is all rusted (the bit were the cap screws onto). I also notice that whenever it rains water lies in the fuel cap area and never leaves unless i dry it with a piece of paper. This is a pain. Has anyone resolved this issue? is it easy to replace the rusty opening? I assume this is affecting my fuel system pressuring as i NEVER hear it depressurise when i unscrew, ever other car i've had depressurizes when opening the cap. I guess the rust bubbles are creating leaks. Anyway, any ideas? Thanks

Hmm might give that a try, what controls the movement of that flap? I wonder if it is still operating as it should, i guess if it stuck in the warm air position it would affect your performance like i'm experiencing after a cold start were i notice performance drops off as it heats up (i.e. more hot air from the exhaust) Whats the best way to remove the snorkle? does it just pop off or does it require cutting? Oh, and the filter they gave me had "HD" on it, and for some reason was too deep so my airbox wouldn't close with it in. :( thanks for the advice so far guys :)
-
Sigh... Typical helpful parts guy at VW gave me the wrong air filter, does nayone know the correct part number for the replacement filter? Also, I notice in the air box there is like a little flap that opens and closes between the rear outlet and the snorkle going to the front of the air box, what does this do? I ssume the engine gets the air from the top of the air box, so what does the pipe at the rear of the airbox do? (wish i had a picture to explain waht i mean better) I thought about putting in some form of CAI or removing the snorkle from the airbox as it seems to have a restricted air flow in standard form. Thoughts? :)

Sorry, it's the 9a. Always thought it was a bit weird as soon as it reaches tempature it seems not to rev as well. (about 10-20% difference - i suspect) :(
-
Hey, When i start my car up and it's cold , i notice a significant performance difference (obviously i dont floor it but even gentle pressure on the pedal gives a lot more response., why is this? Is it because; a. the engine block/bay is cold and so much more cold air is getting in it? b. The cold start is giving the engine more fueling c. the cat is not warmed up yet and so isn't so restrictive (i read that your Cat needs to be at working tempature before it can start removing the pollutants. Is this true? Sorry if this is a bit of a dumb question !

hah, yeah first thing i told him, car, engine, year, part , gave him the part number for the fuel filter said it didn't exist, he said thers another one for the 9a, so he ordered it for me, i then asked for fuel filter seals / gave him the part number, he said theres no such thing..... come to think, these are the guys that work on our cars? that demand £50/hr + labour - yet can't type in numbers :| I didn't want to argue with him at the time as i thought it might be GSF part numbers or something - i'm a newbie :D

I'm trying to source the following parts, but when i give the below part numbers the guy in VW is telling me they're not VW part numbers, where do i need to go/ have these parts changed? FUEL FILTER * 9A 16v Fuel Filter: 893 133 511 £12.09 * 2 x Seals 049 133 696B £3.84 * 2 x Seals N013 812 8 £0.44 * Fuel filter bracket Bolt N010 348 4 £0.58 * Threaded plate for above 251 813 599 £0.99 * 4 x Nut that hold fuel assembly to car N011 006 27 £1.00 * 4 x washer for above N012 226 5 £0.48 # Foliage cover seal 191 819 166 around £6 # 5 x Trim Clips For the Windscreen Lower Cover Panel 535 853 832 A 03C around £2.30 # 5 x Trim Clip Insets for the windscreen lower cover panel 535 853 837 around £1.18 Someone help me please :)

I have tried searching but with no real answer to my question. I must be dong something wrong as i'm sure this has been asked before. Is the air filter in the 9a easy to replace or do you need to remove the meter head? why on earth would VW put the metering head there? lol Is it also worthwhile removing the snorkle from the airbox? I won't ask the "whats the best air filter" question, i did find the answer for that while searching ;)

Since I've been working on the corrado i've had it parked at a mates house who has a big drive..etc he said that lastnight the alarm went off in the early hours of the morning - i left him with a key today i noticed that the drivers window was miss-aligned, so much so that there was an inch between the door frame and the glass (the glass was also out of the frame and poking 5mm out from the door. I can put the window up if i hold it in place while winding it up. Once it's up and i go over any bumps i can hear it knocking loudly like it's almost about to break. Something tells me this could just be my luck, but the fact that it was the drivers door (furthest away from the house) and the alarm going off at a usual time for criminal activitey (4-6am) it just seems like it was a break in attempt :mad2: So my question is; is this a known entry method on our cars? If so is there anyway to prevent this? Also, i assume something has now been broken in the car and i need to fix whatever has been disconnected/broken in the door. IS access just as simple as screwing the inside door cover off? AS always, thanks for any replies or help on this ;)

Took another look at it today, in day light and have noticed its not the washers or the bolt it's actually a hairline fracture in the bend closed the bolt/housing. It just runs down and drips off the bolt so it made it look like it was a washer or something. Not sure why this happened, the pipe isn't corroded or anything. Anyway, got another injector pipeline from a mate and it's all fitted and working good so far - but im going to replace the bolt washers anyway since they looked pretty done. Thanks a lot to all that replied, especially with part numbers, you guys rock - without you and this forum i would've traded in a long time ago. :( but having you as a resource keeps my corrado on the road
