  1. are these washers a white sort of color? looked at it today in the light and i can see two washers, seems that the part that these washers are part of is a bit corroded so i might need to clean it up after doign the washers. is it easy to disasemble or should i watch out for something?
  2. my 2 cents; Very high mileage - my corrado has less and is 8 years older. I wouldn't pay over £3000 for it no matter what the spec.....remember it wont matter how beautiful the car is, if the gearbox/engine/turbo isn't sound. if you know the cars history then fair enough.
  3. Yeah i think it's from the banjo, are these the washers i need; Washers (x2): N 0138076 0.08 Euro or are there additional ones i need to pick up? Is it simple enough to just unscrew the bolt and it all comes apart ? Sorry i'm a bit of a newbie :) Thanks again for all the responses! We could've lost a rado in a fire hehe
  4. Firstly, thanks for the response :) Yeah it appears to be around the bolt itself, it looks like it's quite small like 3-4 mm bolt? if it's leaking around this would it be just the washer? the pipes look ok to me and i can't see any corrosion on any of the pipes. Is it safe enough to just unscrew this and replace the washers or will it be highly pressured and fuel leaking out?)
  5. Hi Guys, I recently topped up the oil in the car, while doing this i spilt a little oil on the inlet manifold. So when i noticed a strong oily smell in the cabin i thought it was just hte oil burning off. I left this for a couple of days but it kept getting stronger and stronger and started to smell more like fuel. Popped the hood and seen fuel leaking out of the (i think) cold start injector valve? with the engine off it just dropped out about two drops a second. With engine on it had a thin mist and the drops a lot quicker but not gushing out. Sorry abotu the picture but it's the best i could do at this time of night. The fuel looks like it's coming out of the injector pipe that goes into that housing. Is it easy to replace? is it a common fault? Oh, and i've stopped driving it obviously, very lucky that it didn't go boom
  6. What is the downside to having these sensors removed? Should there be anything to be careful of, is there any advantages apart form fixing the idle problem? sorry for the newbie questions :confused4:
  7. OK, i have since found out that your CO reading on the 9a cannot go above 0.5% as it has a lamba which controls this. I was doing a bit of research and have heard a lot about the BLUE CTS (not sure what or where this is) but it basically controls fueling when your engine is cold it causes over fueling, aparently this can go wrong and cause over fueling when the engine is warm. Is this correct? I've done a bit of searching on here and only see the BLUE CTS mentioned in relation to the g60.... does it not affect 9a? if i do have a blue cts, could it be affected due to my engine never going above 80c coolant temp? Since i got the new thermo it's never gone above 85c and always sits around 80c, engine oil is always around 90c, unless sitting it goes upto 100c and no further. (last edit) During running my idle can randomly go upto 1500rpm and sit there until i turn the engine off and on again, sometimes turning the engine off and on again doesn't help it.... anyone know why this would be ? ISV?
  8. Hey man, where you able to find your last reading at the MOT? :)
  9. Yeah I agree with Joe_60... As much fun as it is, in a fast car, be it a vr6 or cooperS, you don't have much time to think "hey maybe i should slow down a bit now) - (6 seconds isn't long)before you're doing 70-90 on a 30/40mph road...... I usually only floor it until im just bordering onto the speed limit, at that stage i show the other kid that i'm up for a bit of fun but i am not going to risk other peoples lives so he's welcome to go on. Oh, and this time of the year, the thing that's going to beat you off the lights is a r32 or any other quickish car with 4x4 drive. It also depends on power delivery....those cooperS come in late with the power where the vr6's are a bit more torquey? So i guess you're going to be spinning your tires like crazy while you're chasing him, not good and very easy to lose it lol
  10. thanks mate, would be interesting to see, also worth noting, when i accellorate close to redline then drop into 2nd it gives a backfire...but up top it seems to lean out a bit more than expected..i have kr cams
  11. Hi guys, I recnetly went for an emissions test and it came back with 0.490% vol, i've been doing a bit of research and I have seen some people suggest that 2.0% is the ideal mark for 16v's.. Any truth in this? I'm also getting poor MPG....20-25 around town at night.. On another point, if my CO is too low, that would mean im running lean, so surely my MPG would be better not worse or have i missed something? thanks for any assistance :)
  12. Thanks for the replies. puts my head at peace. Something i've noticed, using 10/40 mobile super S seems to make my engine a good bit happier, isn't burning as much oil, has gone down about 1/6th from Max - Min on the dipstick after 1500 miles and thats with driving in the high revs (tend not to rev until the engine is sitting atleast 60-70c oil). Was using that nasty GTX Magnetec before which my engine seemed to like to drink..
  13. crap, posted in wrong forum, can a mod please move? sorry
  14. Excuse my newbie questions but is it normal for coolant to go down a bit? I thought with the system being sealed what was in rarely escaped unless through a headgasket? I had the coolant/waterpump replaced around September with the new g12+ stuff, it was sitting right on MAX line, though checking it today (2 months later) and i notice it's just sitting on the min. So I topped it up. The engine *NEVER* runs above 80c Water / 98c Oil no matter how hard i horse it. I changed oil recently to 10/40 mobile super s and i checked under oil cap and there was a tiny little bit (less than the size of a 5p piece) of creamyness on the top of the cap, it wasn't' really that noticable but it's something i've never seen before. Is this more of a sign of short journys in cold wealther rather than a blown head gasket? Would my coolant volume go down with the recent tempature drops? Once again, thanks for any answers :)
  15. I'd like to see one of these made. Would be interested if the right price.
  16. Can someone correct him if he's wrong?? :) Also, can someone drop in a picture or two of where this nut is so that i know im turning the correct one? :)
  17. Hi guys, Basically my fuel economy seems to be getting poorer and poorer as the day goes on. The only mod i have is the Kr cam. Before and after the cam was put in i had a back fire if i accelerate hard in first then change into 2nd gear, it seems to only happen in either 1 or sometimes 2nd gear and only with high revs. It gives a loud pop / backfire. Is this damaging anything? Is it a sign i'm running rich? Power wise i seem good in the low revs till about 5500 (after that i dont notice any significant pull), so i don't suspect running lean fueling. Also worth mentioning that i always run on super unleaded....it's only 3 p difference over regular fuel...and i think it's a good idea.instead of paying 10p more for bp ultimate or the like. I read on this forum there is a way to adjust fueling with an allen key but it doesn't describe where you do this.... I'm nervous about running lean as i hear this is more dangerous for your car than running rich? correct? One last thing, my fuel pump seems very noisy, i don't know if this is normal for an old car, but i can hear the sound of itwere on other more modern cars i only ever hear the pump getting pressurized, is this a sign that it's about to die or that my fuel filter needs replaced? (don't know when either has been done - car is at 120k). Hope you guys can help me out :)
  18. Think someone already suggested this, have you disconnected your thermo switch on the radiator, shorted it out (so max/med fan is on permantly) and sat in traffic to see what happens? - obviously unshort it if you turn your engine off for long as you'll get a flat battery :) Does sound like an airflow issue (like the fan isnt coming on properly) and your temps go way up in traffic....same happened me till i replaced thermo switch, which you've done. Try that and see, when you reach good air (not sitting in traffic or caught behind anything and doing 50mph+) do the temps drop to normal? Sorry, you may have already done this.
  19. Also, i think i read here or somewhere; putting in more coolant won't do anything to keep your engine cooler, distilled water does a better job at cooling.
  20. I would say DO NOT put mineral water of any sort in your coolant. Boil it, you will be left with a residue of all the minerals, this is not good for your engine, also, it tells you on most mineral waters how much actual mineral content there is and what you'll be left with once the water evaporates :) I prefer volvic, it has a good mineral content compared to evian :D Another point, i did this flush, worked wonderfully for a while but then boom(not really boom but more coolant light came on and engine temp going skywards)..water pump gasket went, lost all coolant instantly. Unless you have a good reason to or are handy at replacing the coolant components(pump..etc) i'd leave the coolant system alone, i regret doing it.....a good mechanic will tell you that putting new coolant in your system will find weaknesses, i'm not sure why, perhaps it's the organic acid in it or something, it burns up the dirt plugging the holes or something?
  21. I'll see if i can pull the part number out, i got it from ECP, they sell a few for the corrado i got the one with all three pins in a perfect line (some have 2 pins lower and one pin above, or pins in a triangler formation). Mine did come with a copper washer, so it might be best to do as davidwort suggested and get yourself a fibre washer for a better seal. :salute:
  22. Hi guys, always nice to update everyone once i use your advice (or not use) After messing up and disconnecting the wrong pipe i stressed a bit and it was getting dark so I didn't do the full clean of the system as suggested , although i would have liked to if i had the time. I'm not too sure if this is at all recommended but i drained the coolant the best i could with the thermo switch out(wasn't sure if i would been able to reconnet the radiator hoses), ran water from the garden hose through it till it started running clear, it wasn't really as dirty as i though but the color of the water was pretty bad. Put the old thermo switch back in (didn't want the terminals of the new one getting wet) filled up the coolant expansion tank to max with water, left cap off and let the engine idle until it hit the 90c mark and the lower coolant pipe got hot (very obvious as the water started boiling out of the tank) turned engine off, i took out the old thermo switch out and pretty much no water came out....wtf? a lot did boil out of the expansion tank but still doesn't account for all the water i'd previously put in? hmm.... The expansion tank is empty... Anyway, i topped up the level again to max , let the engine run until 90c then when the thermo switch opened it bubbled over again like before and taking all the water/coolant with it, while the switch was open i filled it with 50/50 , put 4-5 liters in so im guessing there is still some old coolant in there that davidwort's technique would've got out. I'm not sure what i've done, but what i do know is that i put a lot of coolant in and the expansion tank looks a bit cleaner! With the new thermo switch in my corrado sits around 80-85C coolant and 106 oil (when sitting parked) 100 (when driving), im happy as it used to go upto about 120c oil / 110c water when sitting. :)
  23. I think i've just worked out that it's the power steering pipe i've disconnected, is that right? I've checked the fluid level and it's just a little bit below the "min" mark, is it safe to drive it like this? will i have caused any air locks or anything? And one last question , what do i need to top it up with? obviously power steering fluid but which type/brand? The piping for the radiator that i need to remove requires a special tool to remove the clip or is there some fancy way of doing it that im unaware of?
  24. I'm an idiot, i forgot the pipe is on the passenger side. Got a bit confused when i saw your picture hehe Anyway, i've gone and disconnected a pipe i know nothing about (not smart) :cuckoo: I don't know why i honestly disconnected it because it was pretty stone cold, cars been sitting over an hour now, but the block and other radiator pipes are warm.... anyway, disconnected it and a lot of oily looking stuff came out into my basin, smells a bit like fish...hehe can anyone tell me what i've done? have i drained my power steering or brake fluid? how can i fix this? What damage have i caused, air locks..etc? I quickly put it back on but it seems there was not a lot in there to come out as it'd pretty much finished dripping out when i was thinking "wtf have i just done"....
  25. Thanks for the response will let you know how it goes :)
