What you know about Cat C damaged cars?
dizzydubbers_missis replied to dizzydubbers_missis's topic in General Car Chat
We strppid it apart some more yesterday and found the repair. It was the rear n/s quarter. Its hard to spot but can just see some spot welds (not quite a good as the factory ones) in the seam under the door seal and some overspray. From what we can see its had a section of the sill half the width of the back door replaced, a new rear door and bootlid. Glass is not original either. All the glass is vw tho and it wasnt enough damage to mean the boot floor need replacing. Its straight underneath and looks a pretty tidy repair. just seems the owner saved money on the paint job. Me and my dh (who i trust totally) is happy for me to use it and happy the repair is safe. Its been vic checked in 2004 and mot'd every year since. my insurance company are happy to insure it so looks like a race to get it finished now before baby arrives in 7 weeks. Thanks guys. -
What you know about Cat C damaged cars?

thanks. I'll have a look at that as all the plastic parts possible are stripped off of it at the mo. Thing that keeps sticking in my head is that the car was full of pretty big ball bearings, under the carpet and in the seats runners, anywhere they could get really. also a few ball bearing sizes dents on the rear quaters. -
I just bought a mk4 tdi estate cuz i am having a baby in 8 weeks. There was nothing on the log bog about it being cat c, but we have discovered since then it is a cat c through a hpi. its a 2001 car and was damaged in 2003 so it was only 2.5 years old. Its needing a turbo a lot of tlc cuz it hasnt been looked after so today we completely stripped the inside out to clean it cuz its very very dirty and carpets need steaming. its looks very straight and there are no signs of welding or damage anywhere that we can see. It has a different tailgate and rear pass door (diff colour paint showing through some chips), and the sticker is still on the boot floor, there was a lot of broken glass under the carpets and rear seats aswell. its had a lot of paint so part of me wonders it if was vandalised rather than crashed? Anyone know if there is a way i can find out what happened to it or where i can get it checked over to make sure it is safe? It was vic checked in 2004 but obviously that doesn confirm repairs were good, i assume they are as it has been mot'd over the years. just wanna be sure really as i am putting a baby it in. It was on £580 so it was worth it really if its a safe car.

My vr has developed a splutter. Not all time, its mainly when pulling away in 1st/2nd gear and when the engine is warm. It drives fine once moving, its just like a hisitations for a second or 2... Any ideas??

I was driving down the motorway yesterday and my grill just lifted off and scratched up over my bonnet and landed on my windscreen, then vanished off into the bank. I pulled over cuz i sh*it my pants when it hit the window cuz it was so loud and i obviously didnt expect it. Couldnt find my grill either. My hubby spent ages painting it (its the after market badgless one) only a few weeks ago. I dont understand why it fell off, the screws are still in place??

my new wheels.... what ya think?
dizzydubbers_missis replied to dizzydubbers_missis's topic in Exterior
I Think the darker rear lamps and side repeaters are next on the list. But i have to get coilovers first cuz its going on the track at castle combe next month. As for the cleaning chore, he dont care how easy or hard he makes it cuz i clean my own car all the time. In fact now i have these wheels i find the need to polish the centres aswell, didnt with the old ones :D . Black bonnet.......... I was actually planning on a black roof?? :norty: -
Some of you might have seen that my hubby decided out of the blue that he wanted to paint my mirrors and spolier black. Its growing on me so i decided to get some wheels to tie it all together. Wasnt sure how they would look but i think i am quite pleased. From this...... To this.....what ya think??

I hate it when people do things like this. There are quite a few single track roads were i live so sometimes i have to be careful. A while back i was in my 1970 1300cc beetle chugging up a pretty big hill, doing about 25mph in a 60 limit. Some jogger coming down the road so i moved over but he stepped out in front of me and gestured me to slow down. So i simply asked him why and he said i was driving too fast past him. If i went any slower i'd start rolling back wards. There was just enough from for 2 cars to pass, so plently of room for him. He said "what if i fell over and you hit me", i was so annoyed i said "well you'd be stupid then, maybe you should go find a road with a pavement to jog on" and drove off. Then just the other day on the way to work, again in a 60 limit, a woman stepped and flapping her arms madly for me to stop, i was doing about 55. I slowed down and could quite obviously see about 200meters+ up the road there were some ducks crossing. I thought some major accident had happened or something. It just annoys me so much that people dont trust people in cars to notice things themselves and leave them to get on with stuff. The fact is, if i was blind enough that i couldnt see the ducks i wouldnt be driving would i?? Unless i am hurting anyone and i am within the speed limits i just wish people would mind there own and give me a bit of credit.

Thanks guys. Been thinking about this one and i dont wanna spend loads on 17's and tyres just to wreck them on the track. I'm considering speedlines just for track wheels and maybe later on i might get another set of 17's for road use. Track wheels come first tho cuz castle come is not far away now and i have no wheels.... :mad2:

I've sold my brock wheels and am looking for some audi wheels. ideally i wanted 16's but cant seem to find any i like. The ones that catch my eye all seem to be 17's. Will i get away with 17's. I'm putting coilovers on cuz my C is a track car but i'm just not sure how 17's will look and handle? Who has 17's and you got any pics?? cheers

Who needs an alarm....????
dizzydubbers_missis replied to dizzydubbers_missis's topic in General Car Chat
My cousin used to have a dog that was actually cross between a jack russell and a doberman. She was gorgeous. Tiny bit bigger than a jack russell but the face and colour and shiny coat of a doberman. I often wondered how they managed it tho  -

When i have this to look after my car...... :D

My grill didnt bother me much but my hubby hated it. He decided it would look better colour coded. My mirrors needed painting aswell so hubby decided they should be black. I am not at all sold on the mirrors but its only a track car so i can live with it. Spoiler is also now black, which actually looks good, not on the car yet but i think it'll look ok. But he was right about one thing, the grill looks better colour coded. So what do you think?? Feel free to hate the mirrors cuz i do :gag: but they could grow on me?? From this To this...

If you havent driven a corrado before why dont you go and test drive a few. I've only had vr's but when i bought my first one i test drove a G60 aswell, i picked the vr purely for the sound of the engine, just love it. If you want it for speed without modding it you'd be best going for a vr or G60. With a G60 you'll have supercharger costs every 50k miles (i think) But if you dont keep it that long and buy one that has had a recent charger service you could have a year or 2's fun motoring.

Who takes their corrado on track days?
dizzydubbers_missis replied to dizzydubbers_missis's topic in General Car Chat
I'm doing suspension before castle combe for sure and strutt braces. The previous owner cut a coil off the standard springs and its hidious. Corners ok but sounds hidious, and its very hard and bumpy. I just wouldnt feel safe on the track. I know coilovers and strutt braces are the typical things that make an improvement on the track. Once i've run it on the track this year i'll get working over the winter to impove it even more. -
