Corrado Dealers , Swadlincote, Derbyshire. Any locals?
B41LEY replied to kvwloon's topic in Suppliers Forum
TCS are local to me but i have never personally dealt with them, if you do make the trip across there is another garage called "Derby Trade Cars" the owner Andy is a big corrado fan and often has 1 or 2 decent examples for sale. Oh, and yes peak district is a lovely place to stay or visit whilst here. Ian -
....if it is that one at the bottom of the add it actually says its isnt a storm. Would be very interested to know what quotes he is getting for the repair work?

Did he buy it off ebay? There was one on there recently with an airbag, had a damaged front end.

Mine hit 110,000 this week, still running it in after its full re-build last month.

L^^^ UWP Green 16v i think, yesterday at 'spider island' Derby ring road.

Mine came from main dealers, not sure how much though, price was included in total garage charged me for re-build. Parkway VW Derby did say it was the first chain set for a corrado vr6 they had EVER sold, not sure if i believe that myself! Ian

Bought my vr in october last year and since then it has been a real pleasure to own and drive. Its also been great to meet and make new friends at shows/events etc. However, in the last month i really have lost faith in the vr. So much that i did consider cutting my loses and selling it. It all began with a blown head gasket and as soon as the engine was stripped down it became clear that was a lot more wrong with it. So i went down the route of "do the job once and do a proper job" so a complete engine rebuild began. Anyway, over 2k later all was complete! But, ever since i got it back it has had intermittent starting/running problems. The garage that did the work had the attitude that their work was not at fault and basically left me to sort it myself. So, 2k lighter in my pocket and with a car running worst than ever you can begin to imagine my frustration/anger/dissapointment/suicidal thoughts etc Anyway, a new distributor/ht leads and coil have finally fixed the problem and the car is running sweeeeeet! Can't wait to start racking up the miles! Over a month of "what the hell can be wrong with it now" was all worth it just for that noise and power when i bury my right foot into the carpet! They might give us all sleepless nights, empty bank accounts and more importantly a grumpy girlfriend but you've got to love them! Ian

All problems now fixed! My now very very good friend Tom (purple tom on here) fitted a new set of ht leads and coil and that seems to of solved it. Car runs lke a dream now. I can start enjoying it again at last Ian

Sorry to hear that Paul, i assume it was to your daily 8v not the vr? Ian :(

Need a bit of advice before spending even more money. Car had a full engine rebuild a couple of weeks ago replacing lots! Head gasket, clutch, chains, piston rings, shells, radiator, hydraulic lifters etc etc Anyway, ever since it came back from the garage it hasn't been starting right, it turns over and tries to fire but just doesn't start. That normally results in a big back fire through the air filter. After a few attempts it will finally start. The car then runs fine until i get to a junction and dip the clutch then the revs die and the car coughs and splutters! (i end up braking and bliping the accelerator at the same time to stop it cutting out) Vagcom diagnosed a fault with the "hall sensor" inside the distributor. A new distributor was fitted and the car ran faultless on a test drive, problem fixed i thought. However, as soon as i switched it off and tried to start it the old problems came back! Vagcom came up with no faults. What the hell can be wrong with it!!!!!!!! Has anyone else had similar problems??? Crank sensor has been mentioned as a common fault but surely if that was broken the car wouldn't start at all. Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks Ian

N829 RKV Green storm spotted this morning in park farm shopping centre, allestree, Derby. I was parked about 10 spacers down from you next to a red Ferrari Mondial :D Ian
-
Got an early vr6 on a k plate, so distributor rather than coilpack. My now very good friend tom (purpletom) has diagnosed using his vagcom that the "hall" sensor inside the distributor is at fault for my intermitent starting fault. Originally hoped i could just replace the sensor but don't seem to be able to find anyone selling these, rang my local vw dealers and gsf and neither even sell new distributors! Only 1 on ebay and thats £80+postage! Is that a fair price to pay? Any ideas or suggestions? Cheers Ian

Spotted a black H plate maybe g60, german style plates, tinted rear lights entering the "spider" island on derby ring road on friday at about 1.15 lunchtime, sounded really nice! Never seen you before, didn't wave as was in "rolls-royce" transit van. Corrado's seem to be breeding in derby just lately! Ian

Thanks everyone for their points of view on this, i can see that the mot inspector was just doing his job even if it was to the letter of the law and that my anger should be with the garage who didn't fit the bearings correctly. Its all a bit irelevant now as my head gasket has blown leaving me with a lot bigger bill than a mot cost!
-
Subject to a compression check confirming the worst i believe my head gasket is knackered! Car has been using lots of coolant over the past few weeks, there is lots of steam coming out the exhaust even when the engine is warm has so much pressure in the coolant system it is blowing out of the expansion tank. The only plus side is it hasn't been over heating. The car has covered just over 109,000 miles and has no history of the timing chains ever been replaced so i plan to get this done whilst having the head work done. Most expensive quote so far for parts and labour is £1550+vat, cheapest £750+vat. Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on this price? Does £750+vat sound resonable? Anyone else recently had this done and how much did it cost? Cheers Ian
-
Just a quick question, anyone have a rough idea of how much a garage might charge to fit a new head gasket on a vr6? Figure of £300 comes to mind. Ian

Perhaps branding all mot testers idiots was a bit harsh, in my defence i was under the influence of rather a lot of alcohol when i wrote this last night. I was merely trying to get over my frustration, i really do believe the mot inspector was being a complete "jobsworth" yesterday morning! A loose rear wheel bearing isn't that important, its a 5 minute job to tighten it up! There was nothing stopping him using his discretion to pass it then check with the other garage that i had got them tightened or even watching me tighten them up myself in the car park if they had lent me the tools. I bet if the mot inspector was doing his mates car or a friend of the garages car it would be guaranteed a pass!
