  1. Thanks for all your help guys. I think I will have to do what Jim has suggested, I think one of the issues is that I have just moved into Cardiff City centre and I know the CF postcode isnt the cheapest, but it was only costing me just over £400 before I had the bump. Its so annoying when an accident isnt your fault, yet you get penalised for it. The main reason I decided to keep the corrado was that I was moving into the city centre so I didnt need the car during the week, so I would just use it on the weekends to see my little one. But looks like its going to be a tricky one. Thanks for all your help and hopefully I will see one of you around the South Wales area driving the C. Just a quicky also, does anyone know if anyone is looking for a G60 engine or charger, as my friend who helped me with the car has what looks like a very well rebuilt engine, not too sure of specs but has green injectors so Im assuming its higher spec than standard and a rebuilt charger. Neither of them have been run yet, so are like new. If any one is interested PM me and Ill pass you over his details. Thanks again, and I can't believe you owned up to watching Glee, Jim :)
  2. I am an avid reader of this forum but rarely get the chance to put much on the website as most people tendtobeat me to it. I have just finished repairing my VR after an accident at the end of 2009, it was only a cracked headlamp and hole in the bumper but they decided to write it off, but it's looking pretty good if I say so my self. To try and keep the costs down I have had to do alot of the work my self, but one of friends who owns the local spray shop painted it, but I had to do all the prep and post work on the car, he just applied the paint. I have had a few niggles as the car has been standing for a while, like the engine hunting a little, probably needs to be taken for a good spin, after some new oil and plugs and a litlle TLC. After all the work that I have put into it I don't really want to get rid of it, but I have just tried to get insurance for the VR and its proving to be very hard. I cant seem to get a quote under £1500, which I think is extortionat, when it cost me less the £400 when I was last driving it. I am almost 30 so I dont tend to go ripping down the local stretch in town any more, just enjoy driving it. My question is, what do you think would be the best option, sell it to someone who is going to be able to insure it, or just carry on trying to see if there is some way I can try and not fill Mr Cameron's pockets any more. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks for your help in advance, Adam
  3. Cheers for all the help guys. It is much appreciated. I have legal help with my insurance so they said that they will try and get more, the problem is that the company that gave me the hire car accepted it on my behalf, which I was slightly miffed about. The company is called Drive Assist, if any one has used them before, hopefully not though. I think I may go down the MK2 route, I know it has been done a million times, but I fancy getting my hands dirty again, I had so little probs with the corrado that I never needed to fix any thing. I need some time to play :) Does anyone have any suggestions on which MK2 is the best to use for the conversion, as Mimjed said the models that use the Digifant system are the easiest but I'm unsure which models they are. I feel fairly compentant at doing the conversion as I've done a few bits and bobs before, but if possible wouldn't mind some pointers to help me in the right direction. If anyone know of a shell for a mk2 going near the cardiff area too :) Also, will have loads of bits from the corrado for sale once I finish it. So if anyone needs any bits I will start to put them up in the for sale part once I've gone ahead with the swap. Thanks for your help again guys.
  4. Hi, I'm wondering if some of you guys can give me some suggestions. Basically some one kindly crashed into my VR just before christmas, it has been in the garage up until now. Now they have informed me that they are going to write it off on a cat c and only give me a grand for it. I know it wasn't in concourse condition but by no means it was a dog, it's in better than average condition, and has had a new engine in the past year. It only had 2 broken headlights, a dent in the bonnet and a split front bumper. The repairs came in at £1800 which I know is a bit high and I can find the parts cheaper, but as I said they have written it off, I think it should be a CAT D at most. But to cut the story short, I am now out of pocket and without a car as they are coming to pick up the hire car tomorrow. My options are either fix the car and be driving round in a cat c car with the resale value of an out of date pizza (if i ever came to sell it), or convert a MK2 golf with all the tunnig gear from the corrado, so it will still have the soul. I know its not the corrado but its sort of half way, and maybe will have a better chance of selling it in the future, if it ever came to that. What I would like to ask is if the conversion is as straight forward it looks or are there any crazy complications that I could come across. I know it may seem a little wrong to kill a corrado but I would prefer to be driving round in a car that hasn't been written off. I hope some one can give me a few pointers or some advice. Thanks in advance. Adam
  5. Cheers guys for all your help. I managed to get a few impact sockets then smacked one of them on to break the collar then put a smaller one on to grip it. It took a while and a smashed thumbnail due to missing the socket :bad-words: but I now have 4 wheels that I can remove. Cheers for all your advice.
  6. Where can I buy or get hold of erwin stud/ bolt removers, as I'm not exactly feeling flush at the mo I'm assuming that they are going to be quite expensive. That's how it all happened with an airgun and a mis-aligned key :mad2:
  7. I'm not 100% sure if they are OE ones as I don't have any packaging for them, there are no markings on the key. But they look like these ones. I don't even know who makes them
  8. Everytime I seem to get the socket on it just slips off as soon as I turn it, or am I just being a numpty and need to use a slightly smaller socket
  9. I found out it's made by Dynomec, does anyone have one of these, as apparently they remove 100% of wheel nuts, as I would like to believe.
  10. Cheers slim, I've tried them already. They were great for ripping off the anti theft collar on the bolt, but then they become too big. Unless you have a smaller one than the 7/8 i think it is anyway, It's the smaller one of the 2 in the pack
  11. I wish they would but they have said that its not their fault that the air tools snapped the key :censored: They shouldn't have been using an air tool to remove the locking nut in the first place I have been told about some sort of tool that can remove it but its about £150, i know its cheaper than a set of wheels, but I shouldnt be doing it. I've tried to get a bolt on the top and try and weld it on but there isn't enough room as its so far down in the wheel (speed lines) I think the only way is by using something to grip the sides, I have tried the tool from Halfords but all it does it rip the collar of it, then becomes too small to grip.
  12. Do you mean drill the head off the bolt, as I'm going to need a huge bit for that. My problem is that they are set so far back in the wheel any chiselling or smacking it with anything is going to do dmage to the wheel, which I want to try and avoid if I can. The wheels aren't the best condition but want to try and avoid wrecking them any more. Thanks for your advice.
  13. Hi, Would anyone be able to help me? I took my car into the garage on Sat to have some new rubber, but the monkey in the garage decided to use air tools on my locking wheel adaptor and snapped it. Now i'm in the predicament of trying to remove all 4 of the bolts. They tried to remove them but were unable to, I've been to my local VW garage, who are always really helpful and they tried to remove them with a large set of easy outs, but were unable to grip the bolts as there is a collar on them to stop tea leaves. The only option I have been given is oxy-acetalene and burn them out but that's going to wreck or write off my wheels. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can remove the bolts without going to such drastic measures, I'm willing to travel if anyone can provide assistance and some beer money :). I live in Cardiff, if anyone is able to help me out with my dillema. Cheers guys.
  14. What a ball ache just to remove the wishbone. Would you recommend replacing the wishbones or polybushes as I'm undecided on which option to take. Cheers guys
  15. Hi, I'm fairly new on here, and enjoying reading up all the good things that everyone has written about how to do things to improve the corrado. I have just purchased some eibach ARB's for the front and rear, I thought it would be a good idea to replace the wishbones on the front and the bushes on the rear. The bit that I am struggling with is working out how to remove the drivers side wishbone. I can't see how you can remove it with out either dropping the subframe or removing the sump. Obviously, I wouldn't like to do to either as it seems a bit silly to remove either just to change what would be a serviceable item. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers Adam
