If you had a 340BHP Corrado what would you do?
ZeroK66 replied to ZeroK66's topic in General Car Chat
Well... My car was a home brew job... the prev owner who did the conversion did it back in 2002. Firstly with a std turbo, then later upgarded to the IHI. He ran G60 management and had a pretty awful wiring setup to run the G60- management on the 1.8t. Jabba mapped this and it obv ran for a long time with no issues (at least that is what I was lead to beleive). There was one failure a long time ago - a valve melted, but this was with the old K04 (At the first PVW shoot out he went to). Anyway, I replaced the cold start sensor and this appeared to cause the failure. The car had trouble starting when warm. A few test revealed the sensor to be faulty. I had this replaced by Audi based on the engine code - but ended up getting a different colour sensor - but apparently correct for that motor (D'oh - map was setup for orig sensor). I personally thing the sensor has always been faulty and it was mapped based on the readings it gave and so when I put the new sensor in which worked... it went - OH, engine is cool now, lean off mixture... and BANG. I had all pistons pitted, but number 3 was the one that let go. Smudged molten piston all along the bores etc. Fire under the bonet when I stopped... it was the most unpleasant sad day of my life - *sob* -
Biggerbigben - Golf sold.. another new project!

Oh dear... yeah, cyl 3 - piston melted... I didnt think it was a piston melting, I thought it was an oil leak inside the turbo and so drifted to the side of the road. This caused molten piston to go up through the head into the turbo destroying this too.  - gutted!! The bloke who owned it before me though used it as a daily driver. Yours is looking impressive, will check out the pics - I would love a spin in it when done, bring back memories. So what other stories have you heard about cyl 3 then -

Hey guys, Well one of you mentioned saving for the day it went bang... and it did, about 12 months ago, I only had the thing fo r4 months. I chose to sell it as it was and it was taken by designer dubs *sigh* biggerbigben how is yours going? -
Sorry - d'oh - simple was the word I meant to use!!

Am after a smile interiour... something with a roll cage, full dash & all that, but just no back seats - maybe just 2 recaros in the front. Anyone got any pics?
-
Oh dear... just came across an LHD dash... should I, shouldnt I... 450HP motor with a TT dash... what you think 8)
-
That is simply fantastic. I may well be going down the route - however my car is LHD and so not really worth it as re-sale value will be less given it is LHD... I WANT A RHD CHASSIS!!!!!!

Speak to the guys at http://www.designadubs.com - they do the conversions all the time. They are working on my C at the moment... re-doing the install - 1900cc, new management, all sorts, well we are talking about price at the moment
-
Hello all, Well I see the lupo blades seem to work well, but given that my car is LHD/89 - what does this mean to me? Does this mean I need to buy two Passenger side arms and one pass arm and one drivers arm (This all refering to UK - IE: RHD) Thanks, Leon

Someone must have re-conditioned their gear shift surely?? Anyone have any idea? As for halford... Im sure they do bushes, for a corrado... mmm, now lol
-
Hello all, Was wanting to fit a set of 2l 16v clocks and wiper stalks + light switches, abs light etc to my 89 rado... just to face lift it a little, and get MPH and a 7K redline. My question is do these items simply plug in and fit??
-
Could I jump on the band wagon here and ask about the guides, bushes etc?? I am wanting to sort my car which has a lot of "play" in the gear shift and I assume there are guides/bushes which need replacement. Anyone know where I can get them etc? Cheers, Leon

What VW's have you owned and how old are you??
ZeroK66 replied to bigben's topic in General Car Chat
Right... VWs, I am 21... My first VW was at 17... was a MKI 1600 w/ webber, high compression and all sorts of things Then at 18 I got my first MKII - this was a GTS (Dont get them here) Basically GTI Trim and motor, but a carb. This I did everything to, flowed head, cam webber etc etc etc... that was my baby Third came my MKII GTI over here in 2002... had that for a year... this was 2l 8v, cam, chip, zorst, flowed head, vernier pulled, branch manifold the works... 15.6 @ Pod  8) And now... the 20v C... 8) 8) -
finnally took a vr6 raddo for a test drive AND.....
ZeroK66 replied to kuksool's topic in General Car Chat
That does sound like a brilliant example at that price. I have seen non verified 80K VRs advertised for more!! Hope you are rolling soon! 8) -
Sorry to hear mate... at the end of this month I have about a £1500 bill winging my way for the 20v... loads of things being done, not good at all. But as you say... I will too have a crisp running like new Rado on the road too 8)

Mmmm... What is the situation with digital dashes? I have seen digi dashes with 7K red line... what cars came with this? Was there a digi 16v clocks?
-
I could go down with my 20v... but I have a few plans this weekend. What is the post code (roughly) of the event? See how far it is.

Hello all, Well, I have a couple probs... My G60 is not a G60 and revs far higher than any G60 could ever want to. And so I want a rev counter that it a little better setup to take this into account. Further to this, my clocks are currently KM/H and so pretty shite and show 186K km... not good. So wanted a set of 16v clocks and was wondering if they would simply plug in - no probs and rev counter etc would just work - IE: All the differences handled inside the clocks rather than different wiring etc. Cheers, Leon
-
Oh, and regarding timing - I have NO idea how advance/retard is controled on this car... it does not use a dizzy yet uses the G60 management. Has a pickup on the crank and a little box of tricks Jabba put together to generate the pulses for the coil packs.
-
Mmmm, well, I am thinking Lambda... dont suppose the G60 lambda is designed to sit virtually next to a glowing Turbo... so perhaps this has gone. I have replaced the cold start sensor and the car is running far better (I knew this was shot) but made no diff to the popping. Noticed though since the sensor was changed black smoke quite often when in traffic and running against compression when backing off - all linked though to the popping it would seem, so doubt it is the sensor. Sounds like it may well be the lambda. Any other thoughts welcome Oh, how the hell do I test the lamba sensor?
-
I would take one on mid-range on the motor way...
-
Hello all, Noticed the last couple days the car seems to be popping a hell of a lot when I decelerate. As great as it is the first few mins, I am now starting to get concerned. I am running G60 management just by the way... hence asking here :)
-
Alright all, Well, I believe all they are good for is chopping your body in half when you have a front end accident, but here is a pic of one I have kept for the look of that fantastic front mount. Cheers, L

Is there a separate sensor for water temp then?
