SOLD G60 | Pearl Grey | Preston Price: £1750 Description: Make and Model: Corrado G60 Year/Reg: 1991/J Mileage: 121,800 MOT & Tax: 11 months MOT, 5 months tax Description: Owned for the past 3 years and bought from a Corrado forum member. I’m selling as I’ve found myself doing more miles nowadays and have bought an S3. I had planned on keeping the Corrado as a second car, but realistically I’m not going to have time to use it and I’d rather it went to someone who will. As per title, it's a 1991 G60 in Pearl Grey metallic (LA7U paint code). Standard grey cloth interior with no rips or tears. Justmatz black floor mats. Momo Corse steering wheel (still have original G60 leather wheel if required but it’s a little tatty). Alpine mp3 head unit, Alpine components and Alpine 6x9s in rear shelf. Windows, spoiler, mirrors and all other electrics work fine, apart from the sunroof which tilts but doesn’t slide. Currently on 121k miles, bought on 97k which means I’ve done approx 7k a year. It’s been fantastically reliable in that time and has never failed to start. It uses no oil or water, doesn’t smoke or rattle and pulls really well from low down the revs. Oil and filter have been changed at least every 12 months using Synta Silver/Mann Filter. Brake fluid replaced July 2010, rear callipers serviced and new rear discs and pads earlier this year. Last year I also did a full flush of the cooling system and replaced the header tank with a shiny white one. Also this year it’s had a nearside front wheel bearing, new wishbones and uprated Audi bushes and a full wheel alignment carried out by Pro-tec motorsport. Other work I’ve done includes replacing the heater matrix and fan blower motor (December 09) cam belt and water pump (also December 09), de-cat pipe from Pipewerx (June 09), blue temp sensor, rad fan switch and blue expansion tank cap (August 09), rocker cover gasket and powder coated rocker cover (August 10), Lupo aero wipers fitted (this year), new driver’s side door handle with spare repair kit (again this year). Charger was rebuilt by G-Werks at 97k. Now has a 68mm pulley and G-Werks chip installed. Before I did this I had the car fully dyno tested with diagnostics by John Clarkson autos of Westhoughton, which included a full test of the boost system and a new seal on the charger outlet. After the work it was rolling roaded again at 187bhp & 189lbft torque with dyno printouts to prove. Clutch replaced in 2007 and the DX crank bolt mod has been carried out. The big end bearing shells were also replaced in 2007 (common G60 issue). It didn’t come with a huge amount of history or paperwork when I bought it (although I do still have the original dealer brochure), but the guy had obviously looked after it and I’ve since built up a decent stack of paperwork to prove all the above work. Currently sitting on a set of Ronal LS alloys with virtually brand new Toyo Proxes all round (less than 1000 miles use). 16mm hubcentric spacers all round. The alloys look ok from a distance, but all are kerbed (bought second hand already like this) and have suffered from water getting under the lacquer. Just never got round to refurbing them. Lowered approx 40mm on shocks and springs (damping adjustable on the front). I think the fronts may also be height adjustable but I’ve never looked into this. Bodywork is probably the weak point – whilst it does polish up well, on closer inspection it has a few car park dents, a scrape on the n/s rear wheel arch which was present when I bought it (adds character!), has had paint on a couple of panels and a few other imperfections. The G60 grill badge isn’t on as one of the clips snapped, but I do still have this. The driver’s door rubbing strip isn’t on at the moment, but I also have this. The front splitter has suffered from the ridiculous speed bumps round here, but that’s easily replaced. I also have the original springs to go back on if it’s just too low! I also have two sets of wheels that the car previously ran on – the original G60 BBS and a set of Lenso RS5 16”. The car can come with either of these for a reduced price if preferred, but the BBS will need four new tyres and the Lensos 2 new tyres. All in all it’s a great car with solid mechanicals that’s been well looked after. Any trial/inspection welcome and viewing is highly recommended. Test drives with proof of insurance only please. I’m based in Preston, Lancashire. Price: £1750 ono Contact details: email [email protected] or give me a call on 07732 066554

I suppose people can only go on their experiences or those of people they know. Both people I know who have had them would never have one again. One due to general running costs and the other because, despite spending a lot of money trying to sort it out, it never ran correctly and was always down on power on the RR. I personally can't stand the look of them, although I've been round a track in one and was impressed with the grip and neutral handling.

Sorted then, good job. That's what you get for buying knock off bits down the flag market

To be fair, the VAG ones are £35 quid and I managed to shear mine off in the head when fitting. It's still there to this day. Mine was the warm up switch, so just runs like a dog until warm. But then mine hasn't run in 2 years, so... Also, the samco line will fit. The old black one is probably so soft that it slips on and off no problem. Surely, by the shape of that stupid pipe you can tell it's the right one? New rubber/whatever they make them from is a lot lot stiffer than old VW rubber pipes with a little bit of cottom string woven in! As per post above, the bore size of the end that wouldn't fit on was noticeably different. All the other samcos went on no problem, regardless of the fact that they were stiffer than the originals.
-
We checked against the original hose and the bore size of two of the ends were identical (and fitted on), it was the lower right hand end of the Samco - as you look at the front of the car - that was around 2-3mm smaller and caused the problems. We even tried soaking it in hot water for a while to no avail. I think it may be worth sending it back, although it was kind of butchered by the time we'd finished with it :)
-
Definitely Samco's fault and not ours! Would be interesting to see if anyone else has had trouble fitting that hose as I can't see any way it could have gone on. Unless it was a dodgy part? Nil desperandum, it'll be back on the road in no time 8)

Cheers for the replies, you're both right - was leaking boost where the two parts of the box meet. The mechanic's description threw me at first but it's pretty obvious when looking at the car. Temporarily fixed with some sealant which has sorted the boost pressure, now getting 14.5psi before it starts dumping boost at 5.5k rpm. I need a chip asap to sort this out and because it's running too lean at the top end, so only driving round on part throttle at the mo - but I can tell the difference already. RSR outlet to follow in the next couple of months. The car must have been like this since I bought it, but has gradually lost more and more over the last 18 months. On the two dyno runs after the leak was fixed, it pulled 182bhp and 187lbft, which isn't bad considering the car is standard apart from a decat. Rang gwerks to order my chip, obviously chose the wrong weekend to do this as they're all away at Ed38! All diagnostic work was done by John Clarkson Autos in Chorley, who I can't recommend highly enough. Great rolling road setup and knowledgeable mechanics, have some printouts which I'll post up when I can get them scanned. When I turned up to collect the car, that mental grey rocco had just come off the rollers having pulled approx 500bhp. Apparently it did a 9 point something standing quarter last weekend and they're trying to squeeze more power out of it. Should have got some pics but I was in a rush.

I'm really not sure which bit the silencer box is, TBH I've never really looked that closely at the charger. Can't get down to the garage until tomorrow so I can't get a pic, tried to find one on the interweb but I'm struggling. I realise it's a crap description, just posting on the off chance someone might be able to identify it from being a plastic bit attached by 4 bolts and having a seal!
-
OK, before I start please forgive the laymans terms being used - I don't know the technical terms for some bits of the charger so you'll have to bear with me. Car has been losing boost (running at about 8 psi with a 68mm pulley fitted) so I've taken it into a local garage to do some diagnostic work. To cut a long story short, after doing various tests the mechanic found that a "plastic pipe attached to the back of the charger" (his words) was only being held on by 3 bolts instead of 4, and the seal between it and the charger was on its way out. Since everything else has been checked, this seemed like it could be the culprit. Yesterday he ordered a new seal but the wrong one turned up - he was told by VW that the seal used to come as part of a kit but that's now obsolete. The mechanic says he can't get hold of another seal and so is going to put it back together using some sealant. I'm not happy with this and want to get the correct seal but without seeing the charger (I can't get down to the garage at the mo) I've no idea exactly which part he's on about, which makes it a bit difficult to try and find a new seal! From my pretty poor description above, does anyone know the bit I'm on about and, if so, where I might find a replacement seal? Any help greatly appreciated.
-
Yeah IF I ever get it back. Bloody seal unavailable GRRR. Who'd have thought it would be difficult to get bits for a charger that went out of production over 10 years ago :-) Now that 16v was low when we'd finished with it...
-
Cheers. Yep 16" RS5s, running with 16mm spacers to clear the brakes. The rear suspension is now on according to the garage, just waiting for a new seal for one of the charger pipes which will hopefully solve the boost issues. Fingers crossed and clench for the bill...
-
Just a couple of pics of my (grey) and SimonG's (green) G60s. We got half way through lowering mine but ran out of time before doing the back, so it's hot rod stylee for the time being. Mine seems to be losing boost at the mo so it's going in to a local specialist to be checked tomorrow, may ask them to do the rear suspension as well if I'm feeling lazy.
-
Cheers for the responses, will know for next time.

Ah that makes sense. For future reference, would jacking under the rear beam hold the bias valve open? Cheers.
