StormVR6

Hi all, just thought I'd pop my head in after a long while and offer my Christmas wishes. Hope everyone is doing well and still enjoying their amazing cars! While I'm here; does anyone know how my old Storm is doing? I sold it some years ago to a chap I believe registered on this site. The sold reg was M13 VRG, can't remember the guys name though. Anyway I'm driving an Alfa Romeo GTV 3.0 V6 at the moment. Great car, even better engine but it has neither the feel nor the looks of my old baby. The Corrado really is in a league of it's own and I miss it dearly. And hows Mr Hayward? Has he finished tinkering with his car yet, or did he eventually have it jet-propelled?! :D

I suppose one of the reasons I bought my Storm was for the same reason a lot of pr*cks spend over £100 on a t-shirt, just because it's got some name stamped on it! Do you wear fecking ridiculous looking jeans because you think they look good, or is it the tag? Do all your mates drink Stella 'cos they like it, or 'cos it's the "one to be seen drinking"? The second reason which allowed me to experience the first reason (as would the t-shirt clad loony) is I could afford the badge, so why not? Which is why two people I know of are selling their Porsche Boxters just to then buy a 911, not for performance reasons, just for the badge! I would think if a lot of members on this forum could have bought a Storm instead of the "normal" VR, without the extra fee bothering them, they would. Those that wouldn't, even though money was no object, are the ones who are not drawn in to paying extra for small details. It's not the badges that do it for me, it's the knowing that I'm driving in the ultimate Corrado. Yep, some may be faster, some better looking or in better condition but the Storm is the grand finale of an amazing car. It may well cost a couple of grand more than a "normal" VR "just for two badges" but remember, it will always be worth that couple more, and if looked after will one day be worth far more. Anyway I've sold mine now so I don't actually care anymore!!

You could display it as "ARGON" which is an inert gas, a nice ironic plate for people that understand what the feck I'm talking about! A personalised plate is nice if it's your initials (personal afterall), as vr6storm points out you can keep the plastic rectangle that cost you a small fortune! Although a car specific plate always helps when selling the car itself. I chose the best of both worlds and had my initials and VRG. I ideally wanted "S70RM" but obviously couldn't due to the year and the price tag of £20,000! If anyone knows of some old banger with the reg "A57 0RM" then do tell me.

What you are explaining is EXACTLY the noise I had on my C, it started making a slight whistling noise a few years back and gradually got worse. If I depressed the clutch pedal very slowly the "chirping" would quicken slightly and then disappear altogether. I've had my clutch renewed 6 months back which has obviously sorted the problem. The culprit was indeed the release bearing, which you said you have changed, did you lubricate the bearings sufficiently around the release lever contact area and also the guide sleeve? Could possibly be a faulty part, it does happen.

Nope same here, I have been stopped 3 times for driving over the speed limit but no proof meant no fine. Considering I have driven quite, quite mad sometimes (including 160mph on various motorways) I consider myself very lucky having not been fined once in 4 years!

I assume you replied with a swift "feck off, twat!" My mate with his RX-8 (which I now call a XK8, just to p*ss him off) has always called my C a "Karrada", although to be fair this is the same man who calls a stopcock a "cockstop" sometimes a "copstock" and once a "stockcop", but never a stopcock. :lol: Yes he has a way with words ol' Danny whos' best feck up was "who's that bird singing, Larnis Marmoset init?" :)

Something like "I'm sure I wasn't speeding officer, could you at least show me if that 1970's box of sh*te actually works" should be adequate. :)

Hmmmm, not my cup of tea, IMO it would better in the black or the silver. Never really liked two tone, even in the good old days when half the cars on the road seem to have it.

Has nobody else thought what I am thinking? The release of the BMW Mini sent the original (proper) Mini's price soaring through the roof, also the same with the Beetle (although not quite as much!), so surely this will be the kick-start of the Corrados' price climb. With the release of the new model, our C's will have real classic status. More the reason for someone to buy mine then. :)

Unfortunately insurance companies will try anything to get out of paying up, even though you've no doubt paid double the amount of repair costs over the years! My insurance company actually insure my car as a Storm, which was on the option list of VR6's. AFAIK this is because a Storm is IG 19 whereas a "normal" VR is IG 18. Once you have proof from VW your problems should be sorted, good luck.

Good point, I agree mate, the C will hold it's own for many years to come. If you look back over the last 50 years cars haven't really got much quicker at all, all the technology at our disposal hasn't made a big difference in the way cars are made. Jaguar developed the disc brake over 50 years ago and still it is not bettered (apart from the disc now being ceramic), MacPherson invented the MacPherson strut 55 years back and it is still widely used (yep and the C) to this day. Is the new Ford GT any better than the old GT40? As far as I'm concerned cars just seem to be looking cheaper and more boring as time goes on, just loaded with pointless gimmicks, supercars aren't really a giant leap from supercars 20 years ago (Testarossa, 959) and indeed 30 years ago (Berlinetta Boxer, Countach). I still love the now nearly 20 year old BMW M3, Lancia Delta Integrale and the amazing Audi Quattro, all of which I'd much rather have than some new crud. So anyway this is why the C will never look stupid against it's modern/future equivalent. :)

I can second that, I once was very impressed by one that gave it all in a fracas years back, I still done him comfortably though!

8 seconds 0-60?? Your VR must have been fecked :lol: Not only would I destroy you, but my car actually looks nice, hasn't been built by the French, looks nice, wont fall apart, looks nice, is more comfortable, looks nice, nowhere near as noisey and did I mention it looks nice.
