that was YOU acting as the antenna. the aerial has to be outside the car really (or on a window) to get a good signal. Radio waves don't travel through sheet metal too well.

Righto, got my scorpion system fitted, end result: nice fit, no rattles etc. but a bit loud under throttle. needed to remove 1 of the middle silencer hangers from the underside of the car and rotate the other one 90 degrees, and had to rotate the rear hanger at the tailpipe 180 degrees. Also had to bend it up a bit to get the tailpipe to sit snugly in the recess. I feel that the tailpipe is a slightly too wide giving it the boy racer look, might cut it off and weld on a new one at a later date, it also sticks out a bit too far from the bumper. Overall I'm happy as it will last forever and since I bought it 2nd hand it cost me peanuts. But i might check out how easy it is to open the silencers and stick more baffles in to quieten it down a bit more. It's not LOUD but definitely not quiet, fine at cruising speed.

my mk2 golf used to do that, it was a bad connection to the sender.

i rounded off an irwin bolt grip doing mine. Got 3 of the bolts out then couldn't get the last one due to wear. Tried for hours too! Then i went to homebase and bought a blowtorch and it was out a couple of minutes later.

i'm glad i looked at this thread. My steering column trim is cracked and it squeaks like crazy. It's been driving me nuts! now i have the part no's to get sum brand new pieces :D
-
it doesn't look like it would hurt to cut away some of that metal. :thumbleft:

one of these systems is on its way to me now, I'll report back once fitted.

With my blow torch and bolt grips it was 3 hours max. So i'd be expecting a garage to do it in 2-3. And a road test should always be done after they do anything to your brakes, and by the sounds of it your problem would be pretty noticeable. I got my blowtorch in homebase for just over £20 btw.

weird! must have been on the verge of seizing or something and when he wound them back they stuck. I just did my rear brakes, they're awesome now. It's really quite easy to do theoretically, but in reality you have rusty rounded off carrier bolts to contend with. NOT fun, but a blow torch and bolt grips see's them out!

yeah the sunroof is great! dunno if i want to put the red panel back on it or not... heading off to get some BBS RJ's today, they'll need a refurb and probably tyres before they can go on though!

The Tornado Valver now comes with a WORKING glass sunroof! :)

cool, i'll get a shot of some from my mates work. On the sly ;)

I went to change my rear discs and pads on an 89 but found that i couldn't get the calliper back over the new pads, turns out i was using the thicker ones so i got the 15mm thick pads which are the correct ones, but still can't get the calliper over. I'm not one for buying fancy tools for simple jobs, so i've always used a massive G clamp to wind back the pistons which has worked a treat over the years, but these callipers wont budge any further! Are these callipers knackered or do i NEED the proper wind back tool to get them back far enough?

FYI, you don't have to use Goodridge hoses, you can use 99 Passat ones. However, Goodridge ones are probably cheaper... as the passat ones are listed on ETKA at 26.68. Might be ok if you can find a cheap source of the passat ones.

mine has been called a cordoba on more than 1 occasion. Dafties!

oh i'm ready for war! lol i've heard from alot of people it's not going to be fun at all, so i think i'm prepared for the worst. Most folk say getting the old axle bushes out is the hardest part.
-
right, i'll use the rear jacking points. :thumbleft: No bother from the police round here, they drive past all the time when i'm working on the car, even done a whole engine conversion on the street. As long as it's taxed they don't care.
-
well i was thinking about that, but they're quite a small surface area so i thought it might b a bit unstable. Could be wrong though was it stable enough for you? only reason i'm worried about it being a bit unstable is that the car will be sitting in the street whilst the beams off and knowing the folk round here it could be 'shoved' a bit and i don't want it falling on its arse...
-
going to do this soon as pretty much everything on my beam needs replaced including the super slack mounting bushes! first question (probably of a few) before i start, where is the best/most solid place to rest the car on axle stands? :multi:
-
mine are 14's! i think it looks ok even that small.
-
damn. So 280mm are the best standard brakes i can have on a 4 stud. ah well, sell the 288s! i can only make a profit :norty:
-
I got some 288mm brakes for MUCH cheapness, but the thing is i have a 1.8 16v so it's 4 stud. i''m rubbish at searching for stuff, never find what i'm looking for... so does anyone know if you can get 4 stud 288mm discs? or can i use 280mm discs with the 288mm callipers?
