  1. My head unit wiring is a bit of a mess, and about as heavy duty as doorbell wire  so i'm just going to start from scratch. My question is regarding the main power cable, do i need some kind of interferance surpressor? The head unit has a wee black box on the power cable, is that what that does? Cheers
  2. That's true, i took my supra rocker cover to get powder coated, and when the guy came out to see it (it was in the 'rado boot) he was all over the corrado telling me how much he liked them! 8)
  3. This is the result of 15 mins using autoglym engine and machine cleaner and a dish brush from poundstretcher. It doesn't look like much, but before this the whole area was completely black with grime and engine oil from the rocker gasket leaking. There was even puddles of oil! I gave this area a rinse with water afterwards but kept the hose low down and the engine started fine. The rocker cover and inlet manifold were done in the bath, much to my wifes delight!
  4. booo.. :( It was a nice thought while it lasted!
  5. What would i need to do to my 2.0 16v to be quicker than my mates fez  ? Here's his spec- 2.0 Duratec (150 PS) Euro IV Power: 150PS (aprox 148bhp) at 6000rpm Torque: 190Nm (141 lb/ft) at 4500rpm Max Speed: 129 0-60: 7.9 Kerbweight: 1137kg Wheels: 205/40 R17 tyres. The 'rado weighs in at 1097kg so i have a slight edge there, but it only has 136bhp and does 0-60 in 9.3s (when new!). I have a KR cam on the way and all the ignition parts are being replaced, but what else would i need to do? My manifold has 2 small cracks in it so a 4 branch and de-cat might be on the cards in the future! Top speed isn't an issue, i don't intend on going that fast! Cheers :D
  6. I gave mines a quicky clean today using auto glym engine cleaner. I'll post the before and after pics in the morn. It's a good product 8)
  7. Right, i changed the rocker gaskets this morning, cleaned the offending plug and lead but the misfire's still there :( . Driving the car is horrendus! My next port of call is replacing the plugs, and if that doesn't work then new HT leads (red ones! ) and rotor arm and dizzy cap when i next get paid
  8. Cheers guy's, i'll just leave it as is for the time being then :D
  9. Hmmm :norty: , how much posted to kilmarnock (scotland)?
  10. I've been reading into fitting kr cams, but what i'd like to know is if there's a noticable difference? If i get one fitted and de-cat the exhaust will i go "oh that's much quicker :norty: !" or will it be "mmm, it's a wee bit better... :| "? It's a 2.0 16v
  11. I've changed the colour on a few of my cars, (i'm a painter to trade) it all depends how extreme you want to take the paintwork,ie engine bay? Normally i keep it to the door and boot checks, but try to keep it the same colour only in a nicer shade so it doesn't look as noticable
  12. Anyone know what this is, lambda sensor maybe? It's just a blocked off rubber hose attatched to a thin metal tube, that seems to go onto the exhaust downpipe. :confused4:
  13. It is mis-firing, oil's leaking into the spark plug from the rocker gasket. I have a new gasket set but havn't got round to fitting it yet, I hadn't really thought of them being connected! The vibration in this case is like a truck driving past your house and the window vibrates, you know that deep tone type of vibe. Sometimes it's really bad and other times it's fine, but all the time it still mis-fires. I'll see to that tomorow and post the results. Hope your right! 8)
  14. It's deffo worse when accelerating and cruising up hills, it goes away when i lift off the gas pedal. What if it is the drive shaft, will it pop out eventually and leave me stranded, or will it get worse and worse? And also, is there any other symptoms of a gammy shaft? Thanks guys :salute:
  15. Sorted! :D Joking aside, it wasn't quite as bad today, thankfully!
  16. How do i check the engine mounts? I gave the engine a shake and it moved a little. The front mount doesn't look like it's deterioted, but could it be rotten inside the rubber? I couldn't see the other mounts mind you. I had a quick look at the heat shield but i think it's something more substantial than that, the dashboard and trim panels all vibrate pretty badly
  17. Has anyone experienced this? It's especially bad at lower revs when pulling away from stationary. It's not like wheel balancing being off, it's more like a "hnnnnnnnn..." through the entire car and eases as the revs get higher, and it stops when the clutch is pressed in. The car's a 2.0 16v. 'Any ideas? Cheers
  18. On further inspection... The distributor has a tiny bit of oil in it, behind the plastic cover that sits between the rotor arm and distributor. Also when i checked the spark plugs, the HT lead nearest the timing belt side was soaked in engine oil, that was before i took the plug out. The plug itself had wet oil on the sparky end of it. I noticed the gasket set in the link has a 4 ringed gasket with it, i presume that's for the spark plug chamber? so i'll get this and see how it goes. Does anyone know where the 2 small half circle ones go, or will it be obvious when the cover's off? cheers guys 8) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... egory=9889
  19. My supra has a similar problem so my mate who's a mechanic checked the head gasket and it's a gonner! He had a wee thing with blue liquid in it which screwed onto the radiator cap and within seconds the liquid turned green, indicating exhaust fumes escaping into the coolant. Might be worth getting it checked out...
  20. Good call, i'll check it out 8) Oh, forgot to say it's a 2.0 16v
  21. Just wondered if the oil running down the engine could be causing the car to misfire? It's leaking down the back at the exhaust manifold side, and at the side of the dizzy cap and collecting on the gearbox. There is a wee spot of oil in the cap. I would change the gasket but my other car has a blown head gasket at the mo' so i need to get that sorted first
  22. cool cool, i'll try doing that. Cheers :thumbleft:
  23. Does anyone know if the IACV on a 2.0 16v is servicable? I got the timing done and the car drives mint, however it now idles at 2k. I would take it apart and see whats what but i don't want to bugger it up and be left without it completely! Thanks :)
  24. Spot on, i did search but must've tried the wrong words  . So does this mean i need to extend the wire from the tweeter mount to the crossover?
