  1. I reckon Andy can do that in 2 hours and fit new hoses at the same time. Gavin

    wishbone bushes

Wasn't keeping it to myself, I thought I was the last to find out..... Gavin
  3. Maybe he was using insulated pliers? I have a pair in my box but as it's 2 steps to go and get them, I always use my hand...... With obvious results. :shocked!: When you say it's not running correctly, does it rev cleanly or is it miss-firing? Could be the coil pack if it has one or maybe an injector? Gavin

It was more like a Christening kind of thing, than a shower!

    wishbone bushes

Yeah went to the fountain of knowledge in the end, Thanks Steve.
  6. Hi fellas, been a while since I last posted from down under. Got a question about wishbone bushes, I have seen some advertised on ecstuning.com, they are advertised as being from another VAG car but are much heavier duty than the std smiley face bush of old. Has anyone bought any, or could someone confirm which 'other VAG' car they come from? Need a couple for an Ibiza but dont want ones that will fall apart or poly urethane. Cheers Gavin
  7. Had a good Christmas and New YEar. Are you getting a VW oil pipe or a gwerks one? Downer about the MX5, better than my daily driver 84 vintage Camry wagon in faded worse than tornado red orange. Just bought a 1600 GTI in Mars red as well while I get the work finsihed on the A3. Gavin
  8. You need to point out it could have been the same money, for exactly the same power as before it went in. That would have been plain silly. In girl's terms: Like buying a pair of shoes 10 years ago, then paying the same money for the same shoes today. Gavin
  9. Blowing the tyres up is worth a few neddies too. The power is pretty smooth alright. Would be good if the curve was steeper ;0) Seems to be a dip in the torque, might be able to do something with that if you knew what the cause was. Weak mixture, ign timing or cam timing? The 24V has variable timing, is that right? Maybe the change over between low and high speed running isn't as smooth as it could be? In the scheme of things though, the money you paid for nearly 50 crank HP over std, was pretty good. Gavin
  10. Was that connected to the alarm install? Gavin
  11. Gary means use timing to hold the idle speed not the tickover screw. As the engine speed drops the ECU ramps the timing back up to prevent the under swing. You should get yourself the Engine Management book from Haynes by Dave Walker. He has all sorts of useful tricks like that. Gavin
  12. They are just common or garden 40A relays. I got my stuff from vehicle wiring products in ilkeston. R40B is their code for the relay I used. What I started doing with the relays was taking the lids off and sealing them to the bases with silicon, this stops the water ingress from happening. With the main beam relay not working the only lights visible would be the sidelights. Gavin
  13. I asked because I fitted it and the alarm for Lee. There is next to nothing in them, so fixing it would be easy. Did you look at it at all, the lights are utter pants without one fitted. The relays and fuses are about the only things that give up. Gavin
  14. When you took the loom off the battery connectors, did you do them up tighter. Maybe there was a high resistance earth causing the problem. The ECU not seeing full battery voltage. What was up with the Headlight loom? Gavin
  15. Could be the wiring to the lambda probe is duff. It should have a heater in it as well to speed its warm up. Also could be deliberately rich for cold starts and maybe a little over the top. I don't know if they would have wired up the heater for the probe. You could also check the output is good with a digital voltmeter on the signal wire. Gavin
  16. Just ask at GSF and Euro. Take them out of the box and have a look before buying. Make sure you don't get one that is smooth. Gavin
  17. No idea what that is. I don't remember it from when I fitted the alarm. pretty sure I fitted a microwave sensor in it, if there are no ultrasonics visible on the A pillars I definately did. Did you find out who mapped it? I think Lee told me but that was a while ago. It might have been Wayne Schofield the chip wizard. He wouldn't have bothered too much with the warm up mapping. It might be worth a call to him though. Is the lambda probe still connected? Gavin
  18. They run pretty bad when the warm up regulators are dead. FP should be 68-78 lbs. You need to monitor it from stone cold and there is a special pressure gauge for doing K-jet incase you didn't know. Allows you to monitor control pressure as well as system pressure by opening and closing a valve. The Haynes for a MK1 or MK2 has a small graph telling you what the pressures should be at various ambient temps. Gavin
  19. Sam was this Lees car? He said it was a bit uppity til it warmed up some what. I'd pull one of th eplugs out and get 4 the same. Failing that get 4 plugs for a BAM from GSF.
  20. 16V pumps produce about 75PSI not 7.5BAR. A world of difference. The FPR should regulate the pressure at the fuel rail. Any excess volume of fuel returns to the tank. The switch on the end of the rail switches on the pump to circulate fuel, if the fuel get too warm though heat soak. This is to aid hot starting by preventing fuel vapourisation. If the ECU blew I doubt it would run at all. The fact it ran better from cold and gets worse would make me look at the lambda probe. The output of the probe is ignored at first to allow the probe to warm up. You can monitor this with a voltmeter on the purple wire and earth. The output should climp slowly towards 1 volt before the meter cannot get a good reading as the voltage is constantly changing. It will output between about .7 and 1 volt. Blipping the throttle should see the voltage drop to 0volts until the revs come back to 1500 revs. If you don't see this happening from cold look at the wiring first. I saw you replaced the probe with a known good one but the wiring has to be considered an equal suspect. Also closing the WOT switch should make the ECU ignore the probe and run open loop. Gavin
  21. Start with the fuses, placements are printed on the fuse box cover. The sidelights being blown may prevent the fogs from working. After that it could be the switch. I doubt all 4 sidlight bulbs have gone at once. Gavin
  22. Yes, eventually............. :) :) Don't get here much though. Still trying to find a job. Gavin
  23. I am still around but my mate Zak makes the looms now. kur2y or mailto:[email protected]. I am freezing my t1ts off in Adelaide now. Roll on summer. Gavin
