  1. A mate who works in a garage has suggested silicone grease, anyone used this before?

Hi Guys, Gave the car a deep clean at the weekend, removed all that anoying gunk and weird micro moss at the edges of the panels, had all the rubbers off and cleaned underneath and cleaned all the paintwork you don't normally see, petrol filler door frames etc. Overall well chuffed as I only found one small patch of superficial rust under the rubbers which I treated straight away, however I get the feeling these are areas that may be vunerable to the dreaded rust and I would like to treat. Problem is that some areas are visible some are not, but I'm not likely to wax these parts everytime I wash the car, way too much faff! As far as I know POR-15, Dinitrol, Waxoyl (even the clear one is orangey :shrug: ) are going to look crap in these areas, and a standard wax doesn't feel beefy enough to me to protect long term. Essentially, I'm wondering if anyone has used anything inbetween a normal wax and a hardcore protection system that is transparent? P.S would recommend cleaning all the areas to the rest of you while the sun is shining :) the amount of gunk that came out was unbelievable! :pukeright:

  4. After two corrados and many years of corrado ownership I have a bit of a dilema. I've recently changed jobs and just buying a run down house. I always liked having a old sports car because I don't do many miles, but the new job is further away and I'd have to put more miles on the car. Furthermore the house I'm buying is in need of complete renovation and theres no way I'm putting any stuff for the tip or building materials in the immaculate interior! :shock: Luckily enough I have a fairly spacious garage at this new house so what I'm thinking of doing is getting a daily runner for going to work / tip etc and keeping the corrado as a second car for when its dry and the sun shines! I guess theres a fair few people on here that are doing just that kind of thing with the some tasty VR6's, Mine's a very tastefully modified 16V, but what considerations do I have to think about? I know I'd still have to pay for tax, servicing, MOT (although it will be even lower miles and dry). The big unknown for me is insurance, do any companies look compasionatly on this situation? Do any companies let you have one insurance policy on two cars - one higher mileage and one very low and mostly locked away? What are peoples personal experiences with doing this? Is it financially viable or just a luxury for those that can afford it? Are there any other things that I might need to consider?

  6. So, about 4 months ago i went to get the front tyres replaced. They looked fine but fairly low on rubber for about 3/4 of the tyre. but had parked on full lock just for a general check, and they were bare and delaminating on the inner edge, both sides. Shat myself and had them replaced the next day :( Got a new set of Toyo proxes and had the tracking sorted at the same time. Now 4 months on the inner edge of both fronts is starting to get raped again! The car's lowered on koni's, I have the brembo front brake setup and 17inch wheels. theres no noticeable tyre rub on the arches or anywhere. I do love to push the car hard on corners and slide on roundabouts but is this a bit excessive? I bought the car with all mods, so have any other lowered, brembo'd beasts out there had this problem? or I guess it could be something to do with camber setting? I know very little about camber, so perhaps someone could explain why that would happen. Cheers in advance

Hey dudes Had the C mot'd about a week ago, didn't notice at the time but the heavy handed monkeys at the garage have damaged the passenger seat relaese. :cry: The actual knob and whole mechanism still works fine but the piece of plastic that slots into seat, (I had to take the knob off to get at it) Is snapped where you would screw it into the seat! Can anyone help me with the part number? Or know where i can get one? I've had a search on the site but couldn't find anything. She's just past 150,000 miles and still in great shape in the interior, so it would be a shame not to replace it Cheers in advance
  8. Sorry if this has been covered before, I did have a good look. I want a Thatcham Cat 1 Alarm and immobiliser fitted to my C. Searching on the web I think for £300 I should get a pretty good system, been looking at Toad, Sigma and Clifford (in that order). What I really don't want tho is some fool fitting it and doing a bad job. Can anyone recommend a good national company that will come out to fit, or even better a firm based in Hampshire / Southampton? Cheers! :)

  10. A friend of mine has a Mk 2 Golf GTi 1.8 16v with a shagged gearbox. He's done some ringing around the scrappers but the best they can offer is gearbox from a Corrado 1.8 16v. Anyone know if its possible to use the corrado box in the golf without modification? This mate of mine will be coming over from the dark-side soon to Corrado ownership :lol: Cheers in advance

Someone tell me if I'm being a numpty but the two part numbers: 1x V6X2 998 406 1x V6X2 998 405 These are comprised of the windscreen wiper arm and blade combined into one part for each side of the car? So when i swap them i take off the old corrado wiper arm and bosch blade and will have the entire replacement unit?

  13. MT, i started a policy with HIC back in August when I was 24, I have third party fire & theft cover, and they we're loads cheaper than anywhere else. I didn't ask for it as such, but my insurance also includes third party cover for any other vehicle that i don't own (like you said). Oh and track day cover to! Dunno if they let me have this because I was nearly 25, but like I said it was gratis, didn't pay a penny extra. Might be worth a try HIC - 01279 719932 and ask for Phil
  14. Ayup, My 91 16v is still in mint condition inside which is good, but inevitably the drivers right hand seat bolster is suffering. The cloth itself is still in good condition but the foam is shot and is falling out in little pieces :( From what I've read it sound like the cloth covers and foam bits are seperate, but is the bolster foam a seperate piece of the whole seat itself, and therefore can it be replaced? If so does anybody know the part number? failing that has anyone been successful in just buying a piece of foam and fitting that? Cheers in advance :)
  15. The 1.8L is indeed slightly quicker, really not that much in it really. But more practically it might be worth considering that insurers generally consider the 1.8L 16v as insurance group 15, while the 2L 16v is normally 17 :? Also theres no worries about the CAT dying on the 1.8 cos there aint one :lol: Guess it really depends how much money you want / got to spend because you'll find the 2L a bit more expensive to buy as they're newer.   17. Hope you can help with a couple of questions, I'm running a 1.8L 16v, the temp guage runs from just under 70degrees to just over 110degrees. What should I expect the oil temperature to be when she's warmed up What temperature should the fan kick in? Does your fan kick in after you turned the car off? Reason I ask is because I've just had the waterpump replaced (noisy bearings) and filled with G12+ and she seems to be running hotter than before.
  18. I worked part time in a garden centre for 4 years. I'd rather leave my Corrado in Kidbrooke than it's car park! You can imagine the clientelle, amiable green fingered old codgers made up at least 50%. The car park was made up of seperate rows of parking with room for cars each side, and each row was split by a small barrier of horizontal 6 foot, 4by4 fencing posts. Well these posts got a battering!, I can remember having to replace 4 of them in one month! The crazy thing was that I can remember an old boy totaling one of them while i was watching. I'd just loaded some turf in the back of rover which he then proceeded to drive into this barrier, he then backed it out and drove away, The car seemed fine, the barrier had a huge deathcrack, and i was pissing myself! It was a very weird experience as I'd just spoken to the guy and he must have been 80 but was fully compis mentis, but as soon as he was in his car he was just oblivious to what he'd done, even the 2 old ladies with him (dirty bugger) didn't bat and eyelid even tho it was a fair impact. Fortunately I had 'special space' between a container and a tree out of the way which was safe as houses. :D The funniest thing about that place was an old lady who must have been in her 70's. She would come in at least once a week in her Scooby Impreza with full body kit!!!!! :D I was 17 and driving a Citroen AX :oops:
