  1. Hi Guys, With quite a few build threads I've read having engine transplants, I was wondering what would be your dream engine to 'plonk' (technical me!) into your Corrado... money, time and skill aside? I've always loved the rallys and the Audi Quattro S1 so would love to put one of them in along with with 4WD. They sound eeeeeevil as well!
  2. Yeah always wondered that if lorry's had them then surely cars can... think it was a case of chinese wispers since reading more about it
  3. Solihull in the Midlands mate Cheers Leon
  4. Searched and found some info but it was back in 04... are the side bolsters still available from VW or infact anywhere? If not, has anyone found any similar foam and shaped there own? Cheers
  5. Thanks all as always, car is goin to the garage at the weekend!
  6. Wicked mate they look just the job!! What did you stick them back down with? Any ideas on what to put on to protect the paint underneath once I've removed the dirt and minor surface rust? Something like this: U-Pol Acid Etch? and stick the plastic sills back ontop?
  7. Mine has the OBD2 16 pin connector being a 95 model but not sure what the software can diagnose? From the VAG Com thread: So I'm guessing for my 8v Manual it'll only show any issues with the ABS and Immobiliser?
  8. Was looking at gettin VAG Com as my old man has just got a MK4 Golf GT TDI... will this throw up any issues to do with starting? Also (slightly off topic sorry) do I get the HEX-USB+CAN cable... read on Ross Tech and I think it will work on both the Golf and the Rado but not 100% sure?? Cheers
  9. I've lifted one of my plastic sill protectors up slightly at one end and I noticed that there is some dirt and looks like some surface rust underneath. They seem to be stuck down with glue of some sort. How do I go about removing and refitting? I take it I just pull up carefully until the glue gives way? I wanna clean all the cack of and reseal them so water doesn't sit there. What kind of fixing glue to I use to reseal? And if there is surface rust, how do I go about removing it and protecting the metal? Cheers guys
  10. Cheers Helen, exactly what I was looking for as a starting point. Gonna phone a recommended local alarm man tomorra and also enquire about the ignition switch. Just got this from a garage 2 days ago and they never mentioned a problem, which in fairness if they hadn't started it from warm they genuinely might not have known but still, gonna ring them tomorra to let them know about the problem and arrange to take it in to them with a pointer towards the ignition switch. Thanks again :salute:
  11. Got both the badges, as I said, took them off to clean behind as there was a fair amount of cack obvious behind the corrado badge... just the grommets were brittle and broke or were already broken. Covered the holes up for now, gonna ring my local VW dealer tomorra and order some.
  12. I plan to get them ASAP. Will cover them up for now somehow as a temporary fix... was thinking some plastic sheeting I have... what tape will stick but not damage the paint?
  13. Hi all! After putting a deposit down on an 8v Rado 4 weeks ago they have finally fixed the sunroof, fitted a new fog light and new bonnet release cable and I took ownership of her yesterday! 120k, standard apart from the exhaust and a toad alarm which is dead Some aftermarket exhaust (not sure if its a full system (doubt it) or just back box, aint checked, but it's maybe a bit too loud for my liking). Quite a few chips in fairness (picture hide a multitude of sins) but rot free bar a couple of rust spots no bigger than screw heads. Bit of a ding in the front passenger wing but overall nothing that I cant live with (after all the majority of the time I spend with it I'll be inside and it is a 14 year old car!) Oh and the lack of rear badges is due to me removing them for cleaning behind and spraying the badges black... as you can see I managed to break/loose all but one of the blue plugs - genius! I searched and found a post from back in 97 saying VW still do them but anyone know if this is still the case? Would you advise covering the holes somehow until I get some sorted? And here is the interior, pretty clean and tidy, usual bolster sag but not much wear at all. Some bits of trim were loose or missing screws but tidied most of them up today. Was really pleased till I had some starting problems today. Posted some info in the engine bay section so hopefully have a starter point for the garage to have a look at! The story so far... 14. Hi Guys, Picked up my new Corrado 8v yesterday and am very very 'smiley' at the moment! :D She aint perfect but nothing I can't live with.... but (there was bound to be a but!) I'll shortern it down so you don't have an essay to read... Started from cold (outdoor temp) - drove for 20mins @ around 40-50mph - parked up for 5 mins - 1st Start = turned over weakly. 2nd start = wek again but fired up after 5 seconds or so. Drove about 4 miles - parked up 5-10 minutes - 1st Start = turned over weakly again. 2nd Start = Tried again and it made a sound that sent shivers down my spine, like a harsh raspy sound. 3rd Start = Fired up as normal. Drove a mile or so - parked up for about 30 mins - 1st Start = again it was weak as if struggling but it did fire up after about 5 seconds. It also idles slightly bumpy, wouldn't say rough but no worse than my old Mk2 Golf 1.8 Driver I don't suppose which never had starting problems. I've read through the search results I got for 'starting problem' and the same sort of things seem to pop up but one in particular caught my eye which was the immobiliser issue. There was a post from Walesy saying that 8v did come with factory immobilisers. Mine has toad stickers in the windows and some sort of sensor box in the top right of the windscreen but the garage I bought it off had no fobs and told me the alarm was either disabled or not working. Would an aftermarket alarm install have changed the working of the factory immobiliser? I have a key with a button (don't think the button does anything) which works in the ignition and another standard key which does the door and boot (neither seem to do the passenger door). Is the button key coded for the ignition? Basically, my problem seems to be when the engine is warm/hot with the symptoms being a weak turnover. I was already planning to get an alarm fitter to strip out the toad and install a brand new alarm but if any advice could be given as to the problem likely being something else? Ignition switch, temp sensor, relay? Need some advise on where to start first and of the likely problems, which are likely to get worse as I don't work in the nicest of areas and being stranded there doesn't fill me with glee!! Cheers guys.

I'm not the best qualified to answer but Stuart answered my question about offset here: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=84421 I'm betting it depends on your drop and the standard offsets are different for 4 Stud and the 5 stud Vr6. More info can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=40503 Should give you a point in the right direction till someone else answers
  16. Hi Stuart... thanks again for the advice! the stud diameter and hub are all correct size... was just wondering if the 2cm outwards would be too much but by the look of the pic link in your post they should be fine.
  17. U still runnin the spax on those latest pics?
  18. old post but just found it lookin for something else so here goes... in no particular order.. 1. Corrado VR6 2. Audi Quattro S1 3. Sierra Sapphire Cosworth 4. Golf Mk1 16s 5. Golf Mk2 Edition One 6. Nissan 350Z 7. Porsche 993 Turbo 8. Mitsubishi Evo VI 9. Ferrari 612 Scaglietti 10. Peugeot 205 T16
  19. Hi! A question about offsets... still gettin my head round this so please bear with me... My 8v Corrado on standard wheels has an offset of ET35 and a wheel width of 6inches I believe. I want to put wheels of 7inch width and with an offset of ET29. From what I've read and worked out using the calculator link from this forum is that they will stick out another 19mm so basically 2cm What I'd like to know is will this be ok without any arch work? The wheels are 15inch and although I have no drop at present I'd be looking at it in the future. Any advise would be appreciated as always. If there is a thread anywhere that lists the maximum u can go out without arch work (taking into account drops etc) I apologise for missing it.
  20.  but I do love marmite :D tried making marmite and pasta once, didnt work so well tho :( Ya see, where you went wrong there is in adding marmite... rendering the perfectly edible food pasta, entirely inedible! :pale:
  21. Are banded steels road legal? Seen a few cars with em lately but sure I saw somewhere they were illegal for road use? Welded aint they? Or am I completely off track with my thoughts?
  22. Quickly for ya... With a drop
  23. It is indeed bristolbaron! Will see what they look like in the morning and go from there. Will look into the Megs idea Cheers ADZ will look into this as well. From the search I did on google the lacquer failing/being penetrated/in general need of re-doing came up quite a bit... some of the silver is actually flaking off behind the spokes/inner rim and there are scuffs/kerbing/general dents on all wheels so may suggest a refurb to my Dad.
