8v Starts Then Cuts Out Instantly (Periodically / Random)
V33DUB replied to V33DUB's topic in Engine Bay
Will check that wiring tonight, cheers volksworld. I know someone who works at gsf... will the coil part from there be ok? Phoned VW and they want £100odd + VAT?!?!?! If I'm advised against GSF part, I'll go for that link off vwspares  -
8v Starts Then Cuts Out Instantly (Periodically / Random)

Cheers both!! :salute: -
My 8v is coming close to a good ass whooping!!!! Save a corrado and help me pleeeeeeease!! haha Sometimes when I start it it revs to 1000 as normal but instead of dropping down to 750ish, it drops completely straight away and cuts out. Few points to help you help me... • New genuine ignition switch about 500 miles ago • New dizzy cap, spark plugs and leads about 100 miles ago Problem manifested albeit in a less frequent and less "forceful" way before those • It doesn't seem to correspond to outdoor or engine temperature. Happens periodically and randomly • Lights on dash come on as normal and go off when started as normal and are still all off when it cuts out • I've tried turning the ignition on waiting for a few minutes then starting. Tried turning the ignition on and off a few times before starting. Doesn't help • It fires up and dies straight away. No spluttering or wild idle, just up and straight back down. When it does eventually start however, the revs fly up to about 2000 before dropping back down to 750ish after dipping the clutch. Then runs as normal. No weird behaviour or cutting out at lights etc • It's been doing it for 2 days in a row now but it started about 2 months ago and has happened say 6 or 7 days here and there. Once it does it it usually does it for the 2 or 3 trips I do that day then will be fine for a while. From what I've read I'm thinking of changing... • Temp Sender. A lot of the posts are about VR's or G60's though and as I don't have etka can anyone tell me which temp sender it is? Blue one? Do I have any others and would it be wise to change them all at the same time? • ECU Relay I'm also pretty sure Corrado's are not just cars but evil living creatures that detest their owners, cos it only does it in public places and the like. Petrol stations, mechanics, busy parking spaces. It loves to cause a scene!!! Any help appreciated as always before I tear what's left of my hair out and kick seven shades of cack out of the old girl.

Get to take in more of the scenery in the 8v! I've learnt to appreciate nature rather than a green blur either side! haha

I got a second hand KW spring and shock set that had done 1000 miles according to the seller and they seemed in good condition. I'm really impressed with the ride and the height.... I haven't measured but from standard the rear must be a good 60-70mm lower and the front probably 20mm. the kit states 30mm drop all round but this isn't accurate. Car is nice and even now. Ride is firm but very forgiving and not crashy at all. Only bang I've heard was when I hit a pretty big pothole :mad2: Would recommend them to anyone!

whats the diffrence between faux suede and alcantara?Well I suppose it kind of is in a way but alcantara is a brand and material in it's own right as far as I'm aware... pretty sure alcantara is the brand name for the material and there aren't different manufacturers of it. Loads of fabric manufacturers make faux suede... some are better than others.

Does anyone know what the 8v caliper is? I believe it's girling but the "54" is the 280mm one isn't is.... does the 256 one have a name as such? Also, which other cars have the same caliper? From what I've read late golf mk2's do? Is this correct? Any others? Thanks for the help as always
-
I had samples off them. Pretty thin stuff. Definitely not the best but then, like everything, you tend to get what you pay for. Probably fine for roof lining as you don't really notice it but would look a bit iffy on the rest. I got some other samples from some shop that were much better... will check when I get home and post the details up. Awaiting about 2 more from different sources as well so will do the same for them. All are faux suede though and not alcantara.

Are these available from VW still, or rather do you know if they're not? If they aren't are any other cars the same? Cheers for the help

Hi all, I'm going to refurb the front brakes on my 8v.... (256 size) I have... Caliper Seal Kit Caliper Paint Pads Goodridge Hoses Discs are still good I've read that the caliper slider bolts are not available on their own but that rear Audi calipers are the same and are sold separately. Is there any similar solution for the fronts? Anything else I should be doing while there?

http://www.ecstuning.com/Volkswagen-Cor ... /ES335289/ This has the same part number... just came across it browsing the site. Might be worth contacting them? -
I have 2 keys... First - Plain, only works in boot and drivers door. Central locking on drivers door, opens/locks all doors, boot and petrol flap... whole shebang. Second - Chipped, only works in ignition and passenger door which opens that door and the petrol flap, not the drivers door or boot! Weird and wonderful as all things on my corrado!

I like that thinking! Cheers mate

Hi guys, Switch has broken... front bit has snapped off... the bulbs in the switch still come on. Headlights are currently off. About to order a new one from VW but in the meantime is there any danger of it shorting (more than usual... gonna do the fuse mod when the new switch comes)? Luckily I only NEED the car in daylight hours but just need to know if I should disconnect anything while awaiting the new switch? Cheers Jon
-
Did you find the source of this problem as my 8v has started to do the same intermittently. :(
-
I still cant work out why the wise old German engineers made the ignition switch the way it is... I ended up breaking the old white and yellow switch out after 2 hours of going through every screwdriver and tool in my garage, swearing, sweating, growling and almost crying with frustration. The new black one seemed to click in and was pretty tight so aint bothered with the screw thing... been in 2 months, checked it a week ago and it was still as tight so until it breaks I aint gonna try and fix it! Everything else I've done had been pretty straight forward. I dread anything electrical going tits up though... I hate car electrics with a passion.

hahaha I just spat my tea out! This should be the universal phrase for personal choice!!

Hi! I have Infinity reference 6012i speakers in standard door pods and the rest of the system is standard. To be honest its nearly fine for what I want but if I cut off the rear speakers there is absolutely no bass from the front. I know the standard door pods aren't brilliant but no bass at all? I've checked all the settings on my old DEH-6Something-Dolphin-Dancing Pioneer head unit and everything is as it should be. Any ideas? Will an amp sort this? I'm not looking for much at all really, just some bass would be good. And also would it be worth upgrading the dash speakers at all for a bit more clarity?

Cheers Henny... will get onto finding one. Thanks for the help all as always.
-
Cheers both. Yes the hinge is loose and no there is no spring. I can tell the thing is a lot looser than it used to be but having not paid any attention to it I have no idea where the spring should be :? This is mine.. And a pic of one I found on the net... I can see the bit missing and you can see the mark on the bar on mine where it once was. It looks welded in on the second pic though. Anyone know how I can get one of these? Is this even the bit I need?
-
Ez peeps... Got to work today, got out and my fuel flap was wide open. Never really had the occasion to check this before other than for filing up, but it does seem really lose when the cars unlocked. It locks on the central locking fine. What should be stopping the flap.... well 'flapping' about I suppose is the best term I can think of? Cheers guys

According to that article its set to go into production. Be interesting to see how it actually turns out if that's true

What are peoples opinions on this... http://www.designboom.com/weblog/cat/16 ... ncept.html It's pretty futuristic but I kinda like it. Seems more beefy and angular than the Scirocco.

And if you remove that bracket and don't want it, you can sell it to me :D

Do I need to change the whole unit? I've got the seals ready to do. Gonna drain the lot out and put some fresh oil in, then generally keep an eye on it to see what happens. Along with doing the seals I have ready to fit. Cheers for the info people
