95K and climbing 2K a month. Full VWSH but brakes and suspension in need of replacement.

Old cars If they hadn't stop making the Corrado it might have affected my vote :D If I couldn't have the Corrado I would have something newer (maybe something new enough to be under warranty). But I'm not sure what.

I have garaged parking at home and at work. If it gets nicked I'll use the insurance to buy another that has full closure! The theiving bar stewards can then fix up my brakes and suspension.

Anyone run along that stretch who has a radar detector?

In the interests of safety of course :) My preferred method is to follow someone else with enough distance between to shave off speed if their number plate or reflectors light up. :D

Does anyone know if they are active? I haven't seen one go off in the last couple of months but I'm not willing to test them myself. I was out of the UK when the whole paint them orange thing happened (which the M25 ones aren't) and I also heard that the ones on the M3 or M4 never get the film changed as it is too dangerous to send a man on the gantry. Anyone have any better info?

£500 Opening the car with a key doesn't seem so bad now!

Nice Avatar. This was my thought also. I have just had a new battery fitted, it is secure and the negative lead is also intact and secure. My experiments continue (traffic jams last night prevented any decent test! - new Personal worst trip home 3.5 hrs for a 50 min trip :x )

I think the cogs on my heater dist box appear to be misalligned as the cable arm does not have full travel (detached cable from recently repaired controls as this was the root cause for my busted controls) - can the cogs be removed and replaced or is it more likely that there is something stuck in the box? Is removal/replacement of the box fairly straight forward or does the whole dash have to come off?

So my "Automatic Understeer Inducer" must just be that pedal on the right then.

There is one particular roundabout on my way home where I can induce this problem. I'm still experimenting (slow around and fast out, fast in fast out, full tank, low tank etc) to see if it is fuel starvation or Traction control (What Traction control?!). Feels more like power loss (fuel) than anything else and seems to be starved in the roundabout (ie in righthander) that then gives a power loss in the exit. I read that traction control uses the ABS to apply the brake to the spinning wheel - is that the case? If it is working on my car it should be renamed "Automatic Understeer Inducer" :? As that is all it does.

Bearings are just under £35 inc from VW. Other people on this forum have had poor results with pattern spares so I just bought two front bearings from VW. I am lucky to have a mate with a hydraulic press so I'll be taking them off Thurs evening, he'll fit the bearings Friday and I'll put it back together Saturday. I'll then get all the front re-alligned anyway to be sure. Any recommendations for places to get the allignment done?

Without any silicone at hand I managed to prevent the latest soaking by diverting the water from the windscreen to the drain hole in the wing, passing the fan intake by putting in a piece of styrofoam takeaway food carton !!! Not a permanent solution by any stretch but it has confirmed the fan intake is the culprit and stopped me swimming inside my car on the M25!

That would have made this a short thread then    Apologies if my comments have hurt anyone's feelings but ask a silly question ....

 That looks bloody awful. I wouldn't let my dog pee on it. If I had a dog. (well you asked.)

Just for the record - I'm replacing Continental PremiumContacts. OK in the dry but a little scary in the wet.

Also around 500/week Mon-Fri Commute. Who has the lowest (actual) mileage on a C?

I have standard Speedline 15" rims on my VR6. What tyres are people using? Any recommendations/ones to avoid?

we know what you drive and what you do!but how old are you??
Bolster replied to vr6storm's topic in General Car Chat
This thread is just depressing - I feel so old (even more so after the beers last night) I'm 37 and have two littluns. I've owned a long list of cars (can't be ar5ed typing them all here). Highlights would be a 12 month old factory built Westfield Seight (4.0 litre V8 in a car weighing 700 kg - over 400BHP/Ton) - mad car, huge fun :D :D :D . Lowlights would be my mum's mustard coloured Austin Allegro that I learnt to drive in  . Also had a few motorbikes too but none currently :( . Wanted a VR6 for a while and the opportunity presented itself a couple of months ago so I took it. Very happy with it, doing about 500 miles a week. -
Anyone recognise this wheel/tyre combo and/or the car?
Bolster replied to stormseeker's topic in Engine Bay
That size wheel and that amount of lowering is perfecto. 8) 8) Not sure about the colour but the UPS thing lightens the whole deal! -
I've seen alot of posts about dealers and 'only use the synta stuff etc'. Not necessarily the case here but be aware that dealers keep bottles of synta on the shelves and unless otherwise stated they will use the Castrol GTX that is in the 'Big drum in the workshop' for general services etc. My recent VW service stated that GTX had been used, but I was never asked what I wanted. I guess my message is "Don't assume anything". My motor runs great - whatever they stuck in it! As long as it has good, clean oil it'll be happy. Goes for any engine I've ever owned.

£400 sounds a bit OTT. I have had a quote to fix up a bit of rust, bubblung and panel work for around £100. Came recommended too and I've seen their other work which is good.
