I drive a standard S3, and always use V-power, pretty sure i read the tesco super is just 95 ron with some bits added to it to bring it up. crappy supermarket petrol isn't going anywhere near my car, V-power gives a far cleaner burn if nothing else.

Mine is a G60, but also did this and one day it blew apart. If your not confident with doing bits internally, it might just be cheaper for you to buy a known good 16v and drop that in, its not hard at all to do a like for like engine swap, just time consuming. Whilst the old is out you can then fiddle with it and learn how to do piston rings, stem seal etc.

A proper gasket sealer wouldn't be a terrible idea, but isn't needed aslong as your careful. Silicon wouldn't be a great idea at all, its not rated to that kind of temperature for one, unless its fireseal :D One tip though, When your doing up the rocker cover don't start in one corner and do the nuts up one by one clockwise. Work in opposites,do them all up so there tight~ish the top left nut done up reasonably tight then bottom right and so on, don't tighten all the fronts before you've even got the back nuts on, a friend did this on his 16v and thought he'd done them all tight, once the car was started the vibrations shook the rocker down another few mm and pissed oil everywhere  Its not terribly important, chances are you'd be fine but its good practice anyway and theres alot less chance of the gasket getting snagged if its getting pretty equal pressure.

Nah it hasmn't bothered me to much  Not to expensive really, new engine and whenever I find time to fit it really. Think defo bottom end damage due to a oil pump failure... starts for the moment but a serious death rattle and no response from no. 2. :D Think im picking up a 02 audi S3 this or nextish weekend so every cloud and all that :bad-words: 8)

Just a quick update, The car destroyed itself afew hours after this thread  Something inside the engine has definitely destroyed itself, haven't even had the chance to sort anything out on it yet, will be taking the head of at some point though. Roll on this weekend, imola yellow audi S3 :D

I'd give you £200 for it without charger :)

Does your clutch have a good bite or does it slip? Could be a cable issue...?

Cheers swompy, i'll have a good think about what i want to do. I know i won't get rid of the car, i've still got my MK2 GTI from when i first started driving tucked away  If i do decide to venture to something more modern i'll hopefully start to want the 'rado back into one peice, i want to buy a G60 engine and rebuild that one and keep mine on the road for aslong as poss, i'll keep an eye out for an engine...

^^ true I keep meaning to buy a compression tester from halfrauds with the trade card, i'll get round to it soon. Either way i expect i'll need to strip it down, its pumping a serious amount of smoke out and stink, with a crappu idle and sound TBH. Thikning about moving my GTI out the garage and just slamming this is there, kind of fallen out of love with it and really thinking about picking up a S3 or Alfa GTV 3.0 V6 cup  'Bloomin Rado's! :mad2:

New thread bump.

Sounds more like the power steering pump...?

Well, I've decided to rebuild the engine, I'm pretty sure the car is going to need a head gasket pretty soon as its been giving signs of going for a while now. I'm just looking for anything your guys can think off 'while i'm there'. I'm pretty sure the VSS need doing so, Cambelt Aux Belt V.S.S. All gaskets (inlet, exhaust etc + Metal head gasket and new bolts) oil pump..? lick of paint I'm not sure how far to go on the rebuild, also never really touched a bottom end..? Any tips? Cheers guys, Pete. I'll

Ah, thats fine then  Yeh, your temp question reminded me i've got my mocal sat in a cub board waiting to be fitted  i'll fit it on my day off.

Last time i was in there, afew months back i got a meter of vacuum hose for free so i really wouldn't expect that to be true... Sure it depends who you speak to and what kind of day there having. You can buy vaccuum hose from GSF btw, sure they stock all different sizes and pay by the meter, plus its cheap to and from what i can remember (bought the GSF about 3 years ago) the same as the VW stuff.

110 on the dash water temp is way to hot, i like to see mine around 90-100, usually fan kicks in and keeps it around that. You can bridge the fan connector to check the fan is working, might be worth putting a manual switch in. oil at 108 isn't to bad, but if its thats how hot it is in this weather without giving it to much beans then expect that to be 120 in the summer, maybe think about an external oil cooler, that will see it below 100 alot of the time.

Spotted black VR6 on the M5 just passing Cheltenham junction heading towards Glos/Stroud/Bristol. Got a picture so if you were wondering what the hell a van was doing just sitting in your blind spot i'm sorry  Plate was M3 VRG Two people in the car. Looked nice and tidy. Will post the pic up when i get the phone connected to laptop. spotted afew more but can't remember where and when, probably in/around Cheltenham.

MOT failure :( please please help guys.Need her to pass fast
demons uk replied to Redrado93's topic in Engine Bay
If its only just failed if its still legal to take it for a spirited drive before you take it to the MOT station, get everything very hot, it will pass then. Edit, Sound like the mechanic is being a PITA, i'd take it to a different garage. -
Saw a White rado on the A4019, just gone over the M5 motorway bridge and heading for coombe hill A38. Was so stunned to see a 'rado that i frooze and just gawped  Saw another in Tewkesbury, nugget rado G60 early spec. Very nice spoke to the bloke in handy man and we both happened to be going to there :) Nice bloke and nice car, very nice engine work from what he was saying.

love to see that on my MFA  Might be worth giving it a full service, including fuel filter.

http://www.edition38.com/forums/index.p ... opic=97434 I would type out the important parts of that thread, but its handy to read and doing a ABF on a MK2 golf isn't much different then on a corrado i'm sure.
-
Well ^^ echo the above, however it is out so what history does the engine have? If mine was out (G60) i'd do oil and water pump, not sure what that is like to do on a VR, imagine it would be easier of the engine is out though.

Just bought some subtle tint to go on my dragon green G, got enough to do the front lights, fogs and indicators :D The cars with it on in this thread look really good, i to think anything more then subtle tint is to much on a green car, looks great on a black car though.
