ok so i put my VR engine in my corrado plugged all in (along with a set of VR clocks) and i have a few issues, theres no illumination on dash and no fuel pump priming, i plugged the four white plugs into the back of the fusebox but left all the single plugs free.. the car is a 1990 corrado 1.8 16v and the ancillaries etc from a 1992 OBD1 golf.. please help as im trying to sell the car and want to sell it as a runner.. oh and the only other thing i noticed is the engine loom didnt have anywires connecting to the battery, is this right? the positive lead on my battery now goes to the starter and only has one wire going into the lighting loom.. thanks in advance.. ...hmm .... does that mean I can replace my screen-vent bowden cable without having to take out the whol dash? If so, can anyone tell me which screws I need to get to to get to the other end of the bowden cable? cheers just take the dash out, took my first corrado dash out afew weeks ago, took about an hour n a half first try, and its not the ball ache people seem to say it is, yes its awkward and fiddly but pretty straight forward and makes everything a whole lot easier..

i simply got all the running gear off a VR was straight forward enough, swapped straight over (although i had to wait to get it back from powdercoat ) but i got the VR cheap as chips and sold all my valver bits to help fund it, have plugged the loom in, very straight forward and cant be done wrong with the main plugs tbh.. as for the back axle im told they are the same so just swap the discs (essentially the hub) so your valver is 5 stud on rear now too..

most of it plugs into the corrado fusebox all the same, i am currently doing the same, search obd2 conversion on here, all obd2 looms are from golfs so this conversion will be the same as what you are doing concerning wiring, you'l need Vr clocks aswell i think... i had to get them anyhw as my old speedo was cable and vr is electric..

Fortwo Smart cars comes with 3 studs too. :notworthy: They might well run 3 studs! But how much power? And cornering force? Its simple, does it look safe.......... dont mean to be funny but where talking 3 studs not three wheels, or two..... or one for that matter. I would take forum members advice on this. id quote an engineer not a forum member, unless any of you guys are engineers and can comment? i stand by my comment, i mean the whole hubs on most cars rear wheels and some fronts are held on by a needle bearing and one nut.. but we can compare situations all day,

well i try to think logically, i am 19 and have a family of a history in cars and trucks but limited engineering.. glad to see the corrado's are so popular in canada as im planning to emigrate there in afew years.. :D

big thumbs up for some nice custom finishes on some nice wheels.. and my comment is this.. yes you are in canada and the rules are slightly different, but to say the british would 'freak' if they saw this well no, in an engineers view and if inspecting these he would see the weight is spread through the hubcentric design of the wheel and that the bolts mearly locate the wheel and hold its position, the strain they come under is from driven motion which wouldnt be affected by the seat on the bolts but the distance between them as this is the bit under load when flooring it.. (as the centre is taking the weight) and on top of this them being forged it is perfectly safe.. id rather roll around on these than in a chaved up 3 stud saxo with cheese soft cast alloy aftermarket wheels.. but hey we are all different..

that was my last resort, but while taking engine loom out i did notice some single plugs were plugged into other colour wired plugs, yet the car all worked fine.. :/ tad confuzzled..

hi there guys was just wondering if any of you could help, i have bought VR clocks to go in my 16v that has a vr6 engine and have the loom as im told i need these to get it all running right.. they 16v clocks only had 2 blue plugs the VR have four extra single plugs, now this is where my problem lies.. can you help?? where do they go? or does it matter if they are left out? cheers Dene

my point exactly, they told my mate his starter had gone, was a bad connection on battery. Your mechanic will go through the list i stated. I wouldnt worry about the steam until compresion test is done. I took my engine out before to clean up the bay and when i loosened pipes water went in the exhaust and it smoked for ages well until i took it for a long drive!

local motor factors may be able to get you one from hadrian panels or a company like them, but i dont think its a common part but your bodyshop should be able to locate one and if not use a sheet metal bender and panel beating tools to make you one up out of sheet steel..

depends on the quality.. if you get it smoothed in, painted etc.. and if you can get a replacement sill, cutting out the old sill and replacing it would take afew hours labour so ig you got it done and stone chipped over id imagine around the £150 quid mark.. autowelding shop would be your best bet if you have one local or a bodyshop, they should be happy to quote you.. i wouldnt get it welded by a garage or MOT garage as although the area will be solid and pass MOT the quality is very poor so for the extra few quid id pay the bodyshop a visit.. much better quality and will last alot longer.. 8)

not too sure on this but iv done a fair share of mechanics (colege, garages etc..) and i know what RAC men can be like (not all my step father is a damn good one) but surely one hose on the rad will be cooler than the other as the idea in the radiator is to cool the water.. and the water system is meant to be pressurised as water boils at 100 degrees but when in a pressurised and sealed system it can go higher without turning to steam, so by leaving the cap off then running the engine to temp and letting it flow out he isnt proving much as it happened due to the cap being off! like if you run any car up to temp then take the cap off it will blow steam out probably scold you and then the water will flow out. the steam may have been the water escaping from the split pipe onto the exhaust and if the car has been sitting after perhaps being worked on condensation in the exhaust, i would :- fix split pipe drain oil to correct level fill coolant to correct level get compression test done to each cylinder and also get a coolant pressure test as this will check all aspects of head gasket and also eliminate any other leaks.. a garage would charge around £30-£40 for the test but some may be happy to do it as a freebee..

come on pull your finger out!! i pulled my engine out with full loom, box, driveshafts and split it all down in just over two hours the other day on my drive, surely you could spare that little time to give your corrado some love 8) , its one job off its list and your mk2 golfs clutch and possible MOT work is going to take just as long. . . :?

90,000 miles on it and completely stock.. and cheers guys, was thinking clutch and chains..

hi guys got the engine out on my vr6 to spray the bay and as i havn't long had it i wondered if there was anything you would advise doing to it whilst its out? and with parts, where to get them from at a good price.. got the dash out too so thought id change the heater matrix... make and price reccomendations? im also powdercoating the subframe and parts, what bushes would you reccomend replacing in the arms? (i havnt got a huge budget) :( cheers Dene

no im afraid cars made after 1991 have to have visible side repeaters from a certain distance at the side of the vehicle.. some cars where the front indicator is on the corner of the wing and can be visible from the side may be passable, obviously corrados not so much.. i had an import MK1 clipper that didnt have side repeaters but as it was a 1992 model failed and i had to wire some in.. :? wether its there or not after 1991 is a fail unless present and working.. the rule of no spare isnt always valid, i mean if your mirror is broke it is ok aslong as 2 more are still in working order, but if you removed the interior mirror and passenger mirror its a fail.. because it is obligatory that you have two... 8)

definatly, i was highly happy with the look and finish of this product and have no doubt it is thick enough to protect the lenses it was easy to use and is very workable, a mod i'd definatly reccomend.. 8)

done mine with subtle tint and common light mod too...

i have been told the subframes driveshaft etc are the same.. just the obvious front crossmember/rad support panel/slam panel.. :confused4: and is all the chopping of the loom because of size differences or is there differences due to differences in the engine? im thinkin non ABS,.. OBD1
