  1. Loving them wheels I had them on my valver in 97 :)
  2. So I basically use rado carriers/disks/pads And the new Fabia/Mk4 calipers with the Goodridge mk 2 to mk 4 conversion kit?? Need to paint the rado carriers then Thats knackered me in fitting the new disks front and rear this w/e, dont really want to change the brake fluid twice, expensive waste of Dot 5 Looks like it'll be just the new wheels :)
  3. Argh, Ok will get the mk2 to mk 4 kit then Have to use existing discs I have by the sound of things
  4. Basically, bought the whole caboodle of a VRS. All the carriers, calipers, discs and pads And they're all 2007, which is a bit newer than my VR6. So I thought I'd put the whole lot on. The front is a big improvement (280-288). The rear is just newer and really no different. Fact they're all spangly green and my Storm is too is irrelevant
  5. By the way, I believe these are 232's
  6. Anyone know what I need to fit these to my Storm. Will they go straight on, or do I need different hoses. Ive got a DG kit for the front 288's, but they dont have anything for the rear and are not sure if the hoses will be right Anyone???
  7. Bought mine as a daily in Jan, and then started tinkering, started replacing the stereo and got carried away, and its still not back on the road. So day to day Im using my van, the Mrs XC90 and if the suns out my old C2-2.5 Alpina but to be honest, thats likely to get used less than the Storm Its my second rado, previous being a 90 16v, and Im smitten by it, I just wish I was happy to start using it, rather than thinking I'll just do this, then something else, such that I've changed everything before I drive it. Guess I just like tinkering, I dunno
  8. Now more confused, isnt the VR6 a tad different to the 4 cylinder cars though, in that you dont get the same vibration issues???
  9. ARZ sells original and de badged ones. I'm hoping the originals are originals, if you know what I mean. They also do the badges too
  10. Sounds like they're all the same, then, thanks guys. I take it the arz one is oe then??
  11. Brill, as long as I wont get any vibration through the transmission You dont know which exact one that is, do you, I take it you mena Golf Mk 2 diesel, is there different models??
  12. Anyone know what the difference (if anything) there is here. Mines got a badge deleted one, and I want to put the original back on. But I read the Storm ones maybe different (filled in between slats??) I was going to order a new one and badge from ARZ, but wanted to make sure I'm getting the right thing first Cheers Phil
  13. i.e the one on the nearside at the back on a '95 VR6 Storm Mines leaking, and from the engine mount thread, it seems OE is best for this particular one Anyone know the VW OE part number, the stealers dont know what Im after (a bit worrying) so I've either got to go look at his screen, or get the part number, and I need it for this w/e and cant get there until Saturday Anyone know, please Cheers Phil
  14. Must get some piccies up of mine sometime, but apart from driving it back home, it hasnt been on the road yet .. busy sorting ut everything So far: removed all cr4ppy stereo wiring and nasty old unit and fited an Alpine setup (all looking O.E and buried) Changed pretty much the whole drive train and suspensions mounts including Top mounts, ARB links, bottom ball joints, CV joints (both sides) Bearings, etc, etc .. set me back over £400 on bits alone ... Also new air box, full interior shampoo including removing complete interior (need the 2 front seats re connoilising) Full service, including new oil and filter, air filter, fuel filter, NGK plugs and leads Fixed seat issues (wrong fold handle, no passenger backrest adjuster) Next : Water pump (not gone, but changing for the hell of it (I hear they're prone to go) Gearbox engine mount (its leaking) Check out existing suspension when its running properley (Jamex coil overs) if they're as bad as expected get some KW's Wheels to go on (got them alrady) Nice forged BBS jobbies that look very o.e but are 17 .. yippee (only weigh 7.6k) Rear arch needs sorting (only minor) 2 new headlights to go on (already purchased) Fit new 288's (picking up this week, ful set of Fabia VRS front and rear !!!) Fit VSR (already purchased) Fit air con (Already purchased) Chnage horrible badgeless grill for original Change exhaust (which one???) Track down beige electric Recaros, beige handbrake cover Re furb rear axle (as per front) And I've only had it a month .. lol By the way, if its a Storm it'll be registered at VW on their computer as one , dont know anything about chassis numbers
  15. Right, went to change the CV joints today and we found out that they were that solid we had to take the whole caboodle out, meaning that I'm going to have to get it all re aligned once changed. So, that made me decide to change all the bushes, wishbones, top mounts, etc, etc, since I might as well, and as a result of that, thought why not go the whole hog and get some new decent coil overs Having read all the reports, KW V1's would appear to be the ones to go for, but I have a couple of questions. A) Can you get these with the softer springs like the V2's and V3's B) Could I get them within a week from somewhere that I can drive to and from in a couple of hours from Bedford as I need to get it all back together by Saturday next week Thanks Phil By the way, will have a set of what looks to be fairly new Jamex coilovers already fitted on the car, so if anyones interested, let me know
  16. Hi mate did you buy that from a supplier, if so, can you tell me where?? Thanks Phil
  17. Will look at the Conti 2's, though looks like there arent any available in 205/40 17 at the moment. Shall try a local garage I have Yoki's on the 17's I have currently have, and wasn't too impressed, to be honest, but they may be another model?? Re lightness, I agree, just got some nice forged BBS wheels for it to replace the cheap, nasty replicas it has. I haven't weighed them yet, but they do feel really light .. :-) One thing, though, if you're running a bigger rim, then a softer sidewall may not be as much of an issue, but I'll bow down to your experience here, as different cars react in different ways. Handling and comfort are always going to be a compromise, however, a car that bounes around, IMO, doesnt handle, full stop, bump absorbtion is critical to a decent set up as, when all said and done, if a tyre doesnt maintain contact with the road, it will struggle to grip as it should
  18. Agreed, 17's by their very nature will be stiffer than a 15, but as Kevin Bird, who knows more about this stuff than most, stated, tyres control the handling, so even if you're running big wheels, choice of tyre is critical. Yes, as I mentioned, 17s will make the ride stiffer, and that is a compromise, but you can have large wheels and a decent ride. Go and have a drive in an M Sport BMW and then drive an Alpina on the same size wheels, and you'll see the point. The M is about as stiff as you get, the Alpina (on the same wheels and ride height) produces a good ride that sits well on English roads You don't have to have small wheels to have a crash free ride, you do have to have the correct tyres/suspension
  19. Well, I've read the definitive thread, and it looks like RainSport 2's or Conti 2's are the way to go, generally. I'm looking at around 4k miles a year, in most conditions, and predominently interested in handling, rather than wear characteristics but not at the expense of comfort, I really want a jolt free ride, as our roads round here (mostsly B's) are a bit rough ...lol. Based on peoples experiences, would either of those fit the bill, or is there something better taking into account that I'm not that bothered if they only do 10k miles before replacement??
  20. Brilliant, thanks everyone, I know this has been done before, but things move on (i.e. the oil name) so I appreciate everyones input Re the plugs, I am better off with the platinum ones?? Will check out Opie oils for the liquid stuff - MT90, anyone know how much you need??
  21. Cheers guys, will do the gearbox oil as well, whats the best stuff for that???? And how much?? Thanks
  22. Right, just about ready to unleash the Storm (well, after this w/e when the CV joints get replaced) Anyhow, thought I'd give it a service beforehand as I ahve no proof the guy before me did (a mechanic, reckoned he serviced it every 5k) Anyhow, only want to give it the best, so Plugs - NGK BKR5EKUP?? (theres also a BKR5EKU on the NGK site, but Im guessing the P is the platinum ones) HT Leads (no idea, oe or is there anythign better??) Air filter - was going to fit K&N panel, but reading the air filter thread would appear VW may be better Oil - Any ideas?? Oil filter - VW?? Only want the best to look after the beasty, so any ideas very welcome. And wile I'm at it, anything else I should change assuming it may not have been for a while. If any of this stuff is available from anyone else cheaper but at the same quality, I'd be really grateful if you let me know Thanks Phil
  23. Admiral does normal multicar policies, Im aftre a classic scheme which I dont think they do, unless Ive got it wrong??
  24. Anyone know an insurance company that does good deals on classic multi car policies. I'm currently running a 1995 Corrado VR6 Storm 1989 Alpina C2-2.5 plus a couple of normal motors and I'm thinking of adding a Golf mk 1 Clipper to the collection At the moment, they're all insured separately, but it would make sense to get them on one policy, as I can't drive them all at once :D
  25. Cheers guys, sounds like if I run a 10 on the front and a 15 on the back, I'll be safe but it will still fill the arches nicely Thanks again
