As far as i can tell this is rarely done and i am yet to find a completed example by using the search function, most people put the KR head and Kjet on an ABF bottom end, but because my loom has been ruined i cant do this. I have absolutely everything from the donor MK3 including engine, mounts, full loom, key, barrel and immoboliser etc. What problems am I likely to run into? not including the clearance on the bonnet issue! Will update this tommorow as i start the conversion!

ABF and KR engine! NOT the same old question; need some advice!
RowanVW replied to RowanVW's topic in Engine Bay
Yeah its 15mm taller apparently, with my sound proofing pads on the bonnet gone it will fit without fouling the throttle linkage! 150bhp will be plenty for me mate, i drive a 1.0 polo at the moment lol -

Yeah i've heard that somewhere, apparently map to 170 ish which wouldn't have looked good against the VR6 models... right think im gonna go full abf and management, i should have a bit of free time coming up... strange not many people take this route though, i guess the KR on ABF bottom is easier!? -

Ok cheers, i've just finished scouring this forum, now just found a nice guide on the gti forum cheers... choices choices! I guess its a lot of work because i'd have take the immobiliser ring and ignition barrel etc to make it work, but then it would have benefits such as mapping and diagnostics? -
ABF and KR engine! NOT the same old question; need some advice!

Well, I currently have a 89 KR 16v, the problem is that the guy before me has chopped the wires and its gonna take alot of effort to sort it out, so I shortly to be purchasing a decent ABF engine off a friend with loom ECU and what ever I need... Also the KR has never been run by me, so no idea what condition its all in! However, I have read that the KR head on the ABF block is the best route to go, however because my KR wiring is so messed up, can i use; KR Head ABF Block ABF Wiring KR management Or what would people suggest as i'm trawling through pages and pages of info that is giving me no clear path, or would just a straight swap to the full ABF be easier in my case? Any pointers would be great, my main worry is that the ABF wiring will be completely different from the old loom and won't plug into everything smoothly. Thanks -
haha, thanks for for the replies! made progress, fuel pump now primes and pumps, just missing the ignition spark and starter motor turn over... right pain in the a*se! =]

I have recently bought a 1.8 16v, taken it off carbs and back onto standard air box and fuelling: Can anyone make sense of this wiring, when i turn the car to start it the relays start clicking like crazy and a buzzer/ beeping starts! The first photo shows the plug disconnected from the back of the ignition barrel where some amateur splicing has been done! When i click the black switch with the two red spade connectors on it down, (from the first picture) it activates the MFA on the dials, I can only assume the previous owner has tried to bypass the immobiliser as that was in the car, but not connected to anything and there was no passkey with it. The small red button appears to do nothing at all Any advice anyone can give would be greatly appreciated as i'm fairly novice at wiring! Help get me driving my lovely car for summer! Thanks, Rowan

I can only guess fuelling of some kind, but I don't see where it fits in with my K-jet unit and the fuel lines, :salute:

Should be jubilee clips which just unscrew, the clamp type clips are a pain, i use mole grips, my old boss used to have the proper tool for it but i can't justify getting one...
-
Correct, I picked up the old one and was like mmmm heavy quality, the new one feels like its made of tin foil, but it will do for now lol

Ive just bought a 16v radiator off ebay for 28 quid with p n p brand new, came the next day aswell! Really easy to change just make sure you have some coolant ready bought before you drain the system!

Only help i can offer is getting a new lock, you can't really fix complicated lock barrels that have gone that easy to open... nightmare though because you need your new lock to match your existing key... Free bump in case anyone has more specific advice, hope you sort this!
