Soon to be broken unless i can get about £1000 for the whole thing. Getting a scirocco due to a new job and more driving.

The polishing idea has fallen through now im a bit more knowledgable about it i see its not the right way to go for me. Instead i think i may get the estorils faces painted white and the embossed parts done black to give the illusion of slightly smaller 'spokes'. Ive done a quick 'photoshop' of what it might look like anyway.

Ha well maybe youre destined to only listen to cds... I will get one of these ordered asap, thanks coullstar!

Not bad in oxfordshire, enjoying the empty roads due to people not risking the drive. Although 4x4s seem intent on setting new land speed records in the snow...

After 2 years of having no radio reception (sacrificed to smooth the roof), CD's are becoming repetitive and i fancy some radio back in the rado, then I came across this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Autoleads-RMA819-Replacement-Aerial-Internal/dp/B001AIPF06/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1358933340&sr=8-5 Has anyone ever had any experience with something like this before? do they work very well?

After all that, i think im going to take a u-turn with the estorils and get them painted. I had a word with someone from a refurbishment company and they said that even if i get them polished that it would be alot of maintenance and that if i did lacquer them then it would only last a few months due to stone chips and the lacquer having nothing to grip onto! Did get one looking half decent though:

Thanks mate, theres some pics on my wip thread of progress so far: http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?51716-The-16v-Project Waiting on my spray shop to have an opening so that they can strip the paint for me before i crack on with the rest (although may finish off the one ive started)

Top advice guys, knew i came to the right place!

Hi all wondering if anyone is a pro at polishing wheels as i have a couple of questions. I'm going to be polishing up the faces of my vw Estorils although im waiting for my local spray shop to strip the paint for me first. I had a go on a part of the wheel as a test to how good i could get the finish and after 80, 120, 240, 400 grit abrasives and then black then blue polishing compounds it turned out pretty well. I did have a problem at the final stage of polishing with the blue compound on a felt rotary disc, basicly after applying the compound to the disc and polishing for a bit the surface of the wheel became a sort of black sticky film that only came off with more polishing and it also clogged up the polishing disc so that the only thing i could do was sand it to get it off the disc... The only theory i can come up with is that i havent been cleaning the surface very well between sanding and polishing. would this effect it that drastically? Appreciate any help/guidance.

Cheers mate, yeh its going to be hard work especially on the intricate bits but i once they're all polished and painted ill get them laquered to protect the shine and make it easier to maintain!
-
Thought i would check if I could get the finish I was after so used, 80 grit, 120, 240, 400 abrasives then used black and then blue polishing compounds on a section of one of the wheels and I was happily impressed! Pic:

Time for an update as things are being done thick and fast for the valver soon! Firstly had the clutch done and what a difference!! smooth as you like now to drive now! Also had a bit of an accident on the A1? just outside of Newcastle, long story short i had to swerve into the central reservation to avoid a broken down car with no hazards on at night, drivers side arches were moderately scratched/dented but it was only superficial which was a silver lining as i had good 200 miles to do! Anyway ill be having a full respray in the new year (hopefully jan) and the guys who will be doing the work said they would repair it free of charge after hearing the story of how it happened! Top blokes! Realised that i needed to pull my finger out and get a decent set of alloys on the c too as the racinghart ones were only ever a temporary solution. Found a set of VW Estorils on fleebay that were only 2 streets down from where i live, only problem is that they were pretty 'kerbed' and needed a bit of work so decided to go all out and get them refurbed with a polished face and matt black for the rest of them as i'd seen a picture of them done that way and they look pretty good imo! anyway pics!! WHEN I FIRST GOT THE WHEELS AFTER SANDING THE RIMS STARTED POLISHING THE CENTRES UP AGAINST THE CAR TARGET I will be getting the spray shop to remove the rest of the paint and spray the matt black parts too. More to come hopefully.

That's brilliant thanks mate, reckon after this one ill replace all of them just encase!

Having a bit of bad luck with the c at the moment and its struck again! I'm due to drive to newcastle on the weekend and my coolant system is leaking, I've narrowed it down to a split pipe, a three way connector that attached to the water pump the engine (where the top rad hose attaches) and the oil cooler! My c is a 1990 16v and I appreciate any help you can offer (have cash waiting for a part)! Thanks Steve.

Definately interested in an oem looking part, done things on the cheap with previous cars and its never the same. 1. bristolbaron. 2. Marshall936 -
Ok so different thread, but had a suggestion of steaming the panels, putting them in place and securing them so they effectively dry in the right shape?? Anyone...
-
Thats great news, thanks mate!
-
Hmm that might be worth a try, think i need some new plastic 'plugs' to clip on a bit stronger for that method.

I'd be interested in a set for an early 16v if thats possible?
