cheers for reply man, i think ive found the problem... valve stem seals. it was blueish looking smoke. gonna check sparkplugs tomorrow see if there oily. it does still puff out white smoke though, so might look into lambda as last emissions test was fairly high.

Hey, Having a few issues with my vr, well i might just be being paranoid as the car developed a misfire yesterday which weirdly disappeared after letting the car cool down last night and no sign of any misfiring on a long run today. :s after a long drive today the car was fine, pulling strong with no misfires and was fast and responsive. However after looking in my rearview mirror whilst cruising at around 60mph i noticed occasional smoke when the throttle is pressed, just occasional. not like major smokiness but noticable. i was worried as i thought it was the dreaded blue smoke, instead its white, on over run when coming down through gears through town and coming down hills it'll smoke. if given a sharp right foot and a booting no smoke comes out though. i gave it a load as i came out of town and no smoke whilst going up through the gears, just changing down and stopping. I recently put a decat pipe on, which i noticed made it alot smokier and smells more of petrol. When i pulled up i left the car to idle with occasional revving to see if it'd smoke but none came out. :S Maybe i'm just being paranoid and theres no problem, but if anybody could shed any light on this issue your help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Luke

hi, i recently posted up a thread a while back when my vr was running on 5 cylinders. changed leads, coilpack, sparkies and cleaned up various sensors. However after a quick spin down to the shop today, driving back the car started to stall at junctions, misfiring, and generally being a twat again!! lol. i got it home, checked all the obvious round the engine bay, everything seems okay. any pointers to things that i could try. the car has recently been decated (around 2 weeks ago) don't think this would be linked in anyway. any help would be great cheers. vr6 missing and sounds like its running on 5 cylinders

hey, was a faulty coilpack. once i had changed the leads and sparks. i tested each lead on the coilpack. all worked apart from lead/cylinder three. tries a different lead/plug on that terminal, still no spark. fitteda new coilpack and she runs ****in' mingt now!!! alot quicker too. mpg seems to have improved too. :) -

haha. it did have the prob though before i snapped the lead. most people are saying leads so ill do them and plugs first. dont think ill do distributor as in jjust saw the price of them!!! ---------- Post added at 08:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:25 PM ---------- hey just looking at service parts. was looking at dizzys but remembered looking under the bonnet and not seeing on. just like a lil box thing the ht leads plug into that looks like this: sounds dumb, but im guessing this is a coilpack, reason being is that i thought 93 rados were fitted with diz caps. does this mean mine has had a coilpack conversion? -

hey there. got a problem with my vr6 rado. took it for a little drive this afternoon, didnt thrash it or anything, just a little poodle round the block. got it home parked up, started the car up about 20 mins later, turned over fine, ran normal for around 2-3 mins, then i noticed a change in the smooth vr noise, sounded like it was missing and not firing on all 6. i pressed the accelarato and it sounded like a subaru, like it wasa firing on only 5 cylinders. i thought i might've had a dirty injector so i ran a lil tiny bit of redex through it and let it idle for 15 odd mins, but no change in the sound. My initial thoughts were that sparkpugs, ht leads, coilpack or distributor might be not working?? went to pull one of the ht leads out so i could pop a sparkplug out for checking and the lead came away in my hand after a little wiggle, im guessing they shouldnt be this fragile? any thoughts or ideas of what to check for would be greatly appreciated as im gonna be ordering some bits tomorrow as i want this sorted fairly quickly as i cant use the car. Thankyou Luke

i think ive cured the stalling problem. i reconnected it the throttle position sensor. then cleaned up the three plugs on the front of the bottom block. yellow, blue and black. im guessing the blue one is ecu temp sensor? these looked rather dirty. cleaned em and the car ran beautifully. took it for a thrash up the road with hard stops at junctions and it didnt stall once!! then reset the mfa and drove home normally and saw 28mpg!! pretty happy with that. gonna take it for a longer run tomorow and see what it puts out then.

my rado vr does 30mpg on a daily run poodling on the motorway at about 65/70mph. is this normal? i had problems with the car stalling sometimes when coming upto junctions. as a temp fix i unplugged the throttle position sensor, this has cured the stalling issue, however would this hinder my mpg? the car idles at around 800rpm which i thought is fairly normal. Ive rfan a load of redex through the car and cleaned throttle body and breather pipes. car seems to have good performance and is still very quick. any ideas to how i could improve my mpg? as ive seen people saying they've been getting 35+mpg on the forum. car also has milltek exhaust system and k&n induction kit. would these make any difference? luke
