  1. seems thats sorted then phew :) but where does that earth strap go to?
  2. thanks for the quick reply's i cleaned the icv again and refitted it and now its driving better than when i first got it! could the icv really make it misfire that badly? i only thought it made the rpm fluctuate and stall the engine? what mechanical faults should i be looking for? would it be best to get a compression test done on the engine just to be safe? or will vagcom throw up a mechanical fault if there is one? sorry for all the questions im just really worried its something major even though its running fine now  ohh and thanks the colour's awesome! cant wait to get my da buffer out and give it a major detail
  3. Hey guys, I have an issue with my Corrado at the moment, I was driving the car and it was working perfectly fine, then it started to miss fire and run rough. Thought it was originally an ignition problem so have changed out the lead, plugs, dizzy and rotor arm but it still seems to be running badly. I have also cleaned out the ICV valve and this has not resolved the problem. I noticed an earthing point doesn’t seem to be connecting on the distributor; I have included a picture of this below: IMG_0225 by AvidJames, on Flickr IMG_0224 by AvidJames, on Flickr Also, does anyone know the name of the part the king lead connects to? IMG_0222 by AvidJames, on Flickr I recorded a short video to show you how it’s currently running! Could this be a problem with the engine itself? There is no smoke on start up or when revving and no mayo under the oil cap. Any ideas where I should be looking next? Cheers, Duncan
  4. Do you still have the doorcards? i will have them if you do collection is fine
  5. hi guys i checked the relay today to see if it was the problem and it wasnt even there..so picked up a new one and the wipers are now working fine! as for the radiator fan still running i went back to it this morning and re connected the battery on the cold engine and the fan started running again! so i disconnected the fan switch on the side of the rad and it cut the fan so im going to replace that tomorrow and hope it fixes it. Also after realizing that one relay was missing i checked for any others and it is missing relay 1,5 and 7 I've used the search but cant find the relay layout for a vr6 just g60 so if anyone cant tell me if they were spares or if relays are needed that would be great im trying now to be a newb but just cant find the info i need with search. thanks in advance
  6. So after using the search function found out that there is an intermittent wiper relay that may be the problem on the wiper front. And that the fan may be continuously running due to a fan switch on the rad being faulty, so took a trip to gsf and bought these parts and some fresh coolant. Got the car out the garage to do the bits and the first thing i noticed was it didnt even have a realy in number 8:scratch: so popped the new one in and hey presto working wipers! great now onto the fan....i didn't have a look at the new one after buying it and only realized when i got home its the wrong part! so tomorrow hopefully a quick trip back for the correct part and change over should have all the little problems sorted so i can mot it. I'll keep you posted on the other problems im sure i will find..
  7. I did find the thread about re tumbling the locks so will give that a go :). Today i got the door cards back on and re attached the membrane so it is nice and water tight, also fitted new wiper and indicator stalks with new hazard switch as it was playing up, and just had a general look around for other problems which include: 1. wipers only work on fastest setting no intermediate 2.cooling fan does not shut down once activated it ran for over 10mins so have disconnected battery 3.ABS doesnt work and the light is constantly on! also had a look at the alarm today and at some point the siren wires have been cut in the engine bay it looks as if someones had a good try at stealing this at some point for sure! tomorrow will be removing wheels and checking abs sensors and fitting relays etc to try and get this mot ready. If anyone has vagcom in the ruislip/uxbridge/middlesex are and wants to lend a hand i will cover fuel costs :)
  8. thanks i'll give that a look tomorrow, any ideas on the other problems i posted?
  9. Im in ruislip, middlesex are if someone did have vagcom i could reward them with tea and petrol money, maybe even a bacon sarnie :)
  10. Spent the day changing indicator and washer stalks, putting doorcards back on after re attaching the plastic membrane properly, and checking that the abs and fans work correctly....they dont :)
  11. Hi guys spent a bit more time on the c today and found a few more problems :( . The first problem is the wipers dont work on any settings other than fast, no intermitent, i thought it may have been that the motor had packed up but after searching on here i have found out i can change the intermitent wiper relay switch, is this relay number 19 or 99? and has anyone had this happen to them?, i also changed the wiper stalk for a brand new one as i thought it may have been the contacts inside the unit so it rules that out as a problem. Secondly i ran it up to temperature to make sure the rad fans worked at the correct temps and it worked fine apart from after putting the car away the fan decided to stay on for another 10 minutes :) so i disconected the battery and done a bit more searching and found out that the cause may be the rad fan switch which needs replacing. And finally the abs light is constantly on...i did drive it and aplied the brakes sharply but the abs didnt kick in i really dont know where to start with this as there are relays, sensors, pumps and an ecu that could be at fault...i know you guys are gonna say vagcom but the car isnt on the road at the moment so cant really get that done and would like it sorted befor the mot. I was planning to have the wheels of tomorrow and give the sensors a good clean. Basically what i want to know is does it sound like im on the right tracks with these faults and the way im going about fixing them? i have tried searching as much as possible but the opinion of more knowledgable c owners would be really apreciated. ps its a 1993 vr6 Thanks
  12. thats why its oem+ with emphasis on the + :) i know the badges should either be chrome or body colour but they are in a bad condition so black will look a lot neater and not to far from standard..."oem" lol. and yeah i agree osv's rado does look lovely. In other news spent another few hours playing on it today and discovered i need to buy a new wash/wiper stalk as the copper contacts have worn through :( and also the hazard light switch is playing up. Also found that some cheeky scum has tried to break into it at some point in the past as the lock barrel has been replaced on the drivers side but isnt correct for the key, and there is also a tiny bit of damage behind the handle! good new is we have striped down and re greesed all the locks and central locking components which now work very smoothly. Also repaired the doorcard where the vinyl had started to shrink and come away. And the full closure system now works faultlessly.
  13. Thanks for the comments guys means alot, i have checked out osv's build and the look of that car with the bbs 013's is basically what i'm aiming for with this car except i want to do them with satin black centers and gloss black lips so it will be quiet an aggressive look but one i think will work well. And yeah it was only £900 but it hadn't ran for a few years and was in a bit of a state I've already put a couple off hundred into it already with the battery, and intake, filters, oil etc and it still needs more doing to get it through the mot :). ---------- Post added at 10:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:21 PM ---------- i wouldn't say contradiction, i mean its oem in the fact the badges are staying, there just not going to be the original colour hardly a massive change from standard in my books
  14. Im a little way out from kingston portent i live near uxbridge on the a40, and found this car in highgate, im the 4th owner. Bought it off a nice middle aged chap who only stopped using it because he got a wrx sti that he said was more comfortable to drive, but he didn't want to sell it as he liked it so much. He only sold it to me because i told him about the golf and he said it was going to a good home, he was taking pics of it as i loaded it up onto a flatbed i felt a bit bad taking it tbh. But im more than happy now i've got it home and running i'll try and get a few more pics up tomorrow of the 42draft intake and the cleaning progress. Just waiting for my da buffer to be dropped round by a friend before i can really get it shining. oh and when i was doing the intake i removed the battery and washer bottle etc to check the condition of the bay...not a spec of rust to be seen anywhere! i cleaned it with gunk anyway just so i knew it was all done.
  15. fairly standard yeah, im going to do the all the badges satin black tomorrow, the stickers and reg plate tabs will stay but im going to get pressed plates as the ones on it are tatty. It will defiantly have new wheels and suspension at some point in the future but the plan is to keep it very oem+
  16. Thanks guys im hoping to get it back to its former glory! the main reason i bought it was because i saw it everyday on my lunch break just sitting there and it looked to good to just rust and gather leaves! the teg belongs to one of my good mates hes constantly cleaning the thing :) and i've had the golf for 4 years now picked it up on ebay for around 700 it was in a pretty bad way, its been fully striped to a bare shell, all rust fixed, resprayed, new low mileage 8v put in, all new wishbones, bushes, grommets, gaskets, suspension, rear beam powder coated etc nothing was left untouched. and all the work was carried out by me an my dad apart from the final engine tune up so its been good fun. But luckily the c doesnt need half of that doing to it.
  17. Got my vr6 running fine now but its having a few problems with the alarm. The immobilizer fob works and the car runs but the dash light starts flashing after about 30 seconds also the alarm fob doesn't work at all so i have to manually open the doors. Is there a secondary back up battery for the alarm that could be faulty as the car has been sat for over 2 years? or does the alarm controller need to be re set? im not sure whether its a factory fit alarm the guy i bought it off seems to think it is. There is also movement sensors inside the car and a bonnet switch for the alarm as well, any help would be appreciated as i havent worked on alarms befor The car is a 1993 btw.
  18. Hey guys thought i would upload a few pics of my new project. Seen this car parked up for the last year and it never moved, so after a bit of investigation found the owner and made an offer on the car. Went down with a few friends to have a closer look at it, it hadnt been moved or started for over 2 years! so after a days work of draining old fuel, new battery, plugs etc finally got it started :). its on 70000 miles and has a ful vw service history stamped up there are a few running problems but i'll get to that after the pics. Spent the day cleaning it to see what condition it was in, came out pretty nice. IMG_0109 by AvidJames, on Flickr IMG_0110 by AvidJames, on Flickr IMG_0108 by AvidJames, on Flickr 3 years worth of dead leaves and dirt! IMG_0107 by AvidJames, on Flickr IMG_0106 by AvidJames, on Flickr IMG_0105 by AvidJames, on Flickr IMG_0105 by AvidJames, on Flickr IMG_0104 by AvidJames, on Flickr IMG_0103 by AvidJames, on Flickr A few pictures of my project Golf I finished earlier this year. IMG_1922 by AvidJames, on Flickr IMG_1943 by AvidJames, on Flickr IMG_1968 by AvidJames, on Flickr IMG_1580 by AvidJames, on Flickr IMG_1610 by AvidJames, on Flickr IMG_1564 by AvidJames, on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/avidjames/6370383909/ When i first got it home it was hardly running and almost stalling on tickover, so cleaned out the isv and checked the rubber inlet pipework that was badly split, so that has been replaced with a 42draft inlet elbow which has cured all running issues. The plan is to get it through the mot and use it as a daily for a bit. the only other issues are the immobilizer doesn't work, the drivers door lo3ck wont open, and the windscreen wipers only work on one setting....fast. so if anyone has any ideas why it would be much appreciated. Still not a bad buy for £900 ;)
  19. lovely thanks for the help mate its already been dispatched :)
  20. nice one mate i'll get that ordered now just needed to make sure there wasn't any underlying problems with fitting it : )
  21. i have a 1993 obd1 vr6 with a perished upper intake hose, will this fit without any mods? or do i need to install an oil catch can for the crank breather? http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/product.php?xProd=37267 please help i need to get this sorted to rule out the dodgy running issues!
  22. finally got the corrado back home today all be it on the back of a flatbed! will do the isv this week and try and get some pics up. other problems include no hazard lights, drivers door lock wont move, the remote Central locking doesn't work and the engine bay is like a snail graveyard! oh and it has a flat tyre but for the money cant complain. its a learning curve coming from a mk1 gti to a vr6 with lots of electric parts, but still love it!
  23. thanks guys i'll give this a try :)
  24. cool i'll check that tomorrow ive also heard it might be the maf sensor that needs a good clean does this seem likely? i'll also check for airleaks
