  1. Now, the car runs but it still has problems. It has bad exhaust leaks and is really loud. Also, when you let off the gas to shift there is a big clunk. I think I need to get my motor mount attatched better (I could only get one bolt in, at least it won't hit the filter housing now). I also think the car is way to gutless and underpowered in first and second gear and anything under 3K rpm's. Maybe I just don't know Corrados good enough but I though they were supposed to be faster than this. My 2nd gear syncros are starting to go out too, you have to know how to hit it just right and its really hard to downshift to 2nd. It pulls to the right a little too and tracks to the road way too much but maybe thats just how they are. Also lots of vibration noise when driving at certain rpm's. edit - My pics aren't working so I took them off.
  2. Its alive!!! The car is finally running and NOT spewing oil everywhere. 8) I'll post pics tomorrow of that messed up oil filter housing and also what I had to do the get my oil filter off (I screwed it on REALLY tight the last time after I JB welded it trying to keep it from leaking).
  3. Well my JB weld job didn't work. Its not pouring out like before but its still leaking pretty fast. Looks like I gotta take it all apart again and get a new housing from my corrado parts guy.
  4. No I can see exactly whats the problem. The surface that the rubber gasket is sealed agains is dented upward. All I have to do is fill it in with JB weld or something. I could get a new housing, I know a guy here with a few Corrados that he parts out so parts aren't a problem. JB weld is just faster/easier than replacing that housing. :)
  5. It wasn't really a leak, you'd start the car and in a few seconds it would empty a few quarts of oil in seconds. I took the lower line off and cleaned it and I realised that wasn't the problem. I finally found it though..... My front engine mount wasn't connected to the engine at all. (I really hate the stupid F(*&^&*^ that I bought my car from.) Anyway, with the front mount disconnected the engine must have moved aroudn a little and the edge of the engine mount rubbed against the side of the oil filter and made a dent against the top of that oil filter housing right where the rubber gasket seals. It also put a hole in the side of the oil filter. It took forever to get the radiator fan off so that I could put some new bolts in the engine mount and then another couple hours just to get the friggin oil filter off. Finally got it out and I think I'll be able to fill the dent at the top of that housing with JB weld so that the oil filter will have a flat area to seal against. That way I don't have to get a whole new housing.
  6. My lower line is rubber (connects to the front of the engine block) and the other line is braided (connects to the side of the engien block. What is that lower line, the feed or return line? How much is the VW dealership gonna rape me for it?
  7. I found out what it was. Stupidest problem ever, why do these things always happen to me. You know how those two coolant hoses with the three ends each down there on the front of the engine have those hose clamps that you just squeze with pliers to move instead of the ones you screw tight with a screwdriver. Well one of those hose clams was up so that when I tightened down that supercharger bracket to the engine block it would touch the hose clamp and move it slightly so that coolant would leak. I had to take a lot of stuff back off to fix it but its good now. Could all you guys that are looking at this thread go to this thread -----------> http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic. ... 6986#76986 to help me with my other problem. Check my new post at the bottom.
  8. *Update* I just got done rebuilding the supercharger and doing a few other things, finally got the car back together. The thing's been sitting in my garage for months. I filled all the fluids back up and started her for the first time. Started right up, sounded a little rough for a second then started sounding smoother than it ever has while I've owned it. I pulled a little sensor off the hose going to the throttle body so I could see how the supercharger was blowing. 100% improvement from before, it feelt like a friend's corrado did when he pulled his off and his car runs awesome. So, I feel good about the supercharger now but I moved my foot and it slipped. I look down and there is a huge growing puddle of oil under the car. I quickly turn it off and roll the car back so I can clean it all up. The oil is coming from near / above the oil filter but I can't quite see where. It wasn't dripping down the oil filter, I know its not the filter itself being loose or punctured or something. I couldn't even see any oil from above so its not that high up in the engine bay. Anyone have any clues as to what it is? It only started pouring out when the engine was running and it leaked out about 2-3 quarts of oil onto the ground. ** I JUST REALISED THATS ABOUT WHERE THE RUBBER OIL LINE GOES FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE SUPERCHARGER TO THE ENGINE BLOCK. (is that the return line or the feed line?) I bet that rubber hose is cracked/broken. I'll go check it out. I assume I can buy a new one at a local VW dealer. **
  9. I just rebuilt my supercharger and did some other stuff on my Corrado. I went to fill the coolant and it is leaking from somewhere I can't quite see. The bracket that holds on the supercharger on the front-middle of the engine had a little seal in it that seals a hole on the engine. Is it oil or coolant in there, I can't remember. Thats about where it looks like the coolant is leaking so I thought I'd see if thats it.
  10. Yeah I know its not good. I didn't find pieces of apex strips, I found one whole strip. I'm taking it apart now to look at it. Right now I'm just trying to get the car running again as cheaply as possible so I can sell it, I'm not sending my charger in anywhere. Even if the charger needs to be totally re-done, I just want to get it good enough so that its running and boosting again. The thing hasn't grenaded yet so I don't think its that bad.
  11. Where can I buy the parts I need to rebuild my supercharger? Can you buy any of them from the VW dealerships? I found this website: http://www.nwlink.com/~vdb/vw/Engine/G60_Rebuild_Parts.html and it lists some part numbers but a lot of them are from different sources. I found the little belt and some of the seals at a place called Motion Industries (from that site). Is there a definite list of the bearings/seals to be replace in a standard OEM rebuild? That site has some long lists of stuff you probably don't need. The main thing I need to know is where I can buy the apex strips at. I just found one of my strips stuck inside the silencer box on the outlet of the supercharger. :(
  12. Well the car has a million problems and does run like shit, so I can't say the supercharger did or didn't blow. I'm pretty sure it is in need of a rebuild but not completely destroyed. (It blew air, just not as hard as it should have.) This was before the oil thing, i don't know what to think now. It probably was an oil line to the supercharger, the oil seems to be concentrated in that area. I don't know where to start so I'm gonna take the supercharger out now and try to clean up all this oil.
  13. I was working out my starter issues, drove down the street, and the car died. My battery was low so i had to bring another car and some jumper cables to get going again. I turned the corrado around and drove it back into my garage. I then noticed a trail of oil coming all the way down the street and into my garage. I looked under the car and there was a growing puddle of oil. I popped the hood and there is oil everywhere. It looks like the radiator fan threw it around too. What does it sound like guys? Something in the supercharger explode? I can't even tell where its coming from because its just dripping off of everything. BTW it wasn't loud, I didn't know anything happened untill I got out of the car, but then again I have a bad exhaust leak and the engine is friggin' loud so I can't hear much else.
  14. I had to replace the starter motor on my G60. I ran in to a few problems with the bolts to mount it but now its in and I'm trying to hook the wiring back up. I know I took off two thick wires, the ground of course and the other one was connected to the solenoid on the starter. There is also the little red wire that slides on with a little clip, thats taken care of. My problem is that I see three thick wires that are unhooked right now and I don't know which one is which because I only remember taking off two. The ground is the ground, but there are two more wires. One comes off of the alternator and the other comes off of the posative battery terminal. Which one goes on the starter and where does the other one go?
  15. Well I worked on it all day, went for a test drive, it was running a lot better..... and then I wrecked it. Went to fast around a corner and into a curb. Demolished the front right rim and suspension. It was right around the corner from my house so I jacked that corner of the car up and used our other car to pull it into the garage. Oh well, the Corrado guy is going to hook me up with everything I need to get it fixed. Yeah, I'm a dumbass.
  16. I just pulled hard and got it off. It didn't look glue on or anything, just corroded/rusted on.
  17. I was at checker auto getting some parts and the guy that works there was telling me about this other guy with a Corrado and some problems he was having. Right then he walked in the door! What a coincidence. I talked to him and he's a mechanic. He has a couple running Corrados and he says like five cars worth of parts. His friends have Corrados too. He came over to my house, checked out my new G60, gave me some tips, etc. He's going to hook me up with any parts I need, and Corrado parts are impossible to find here. He made me feel a lot better about the car I bought too, I thought the whole thing was a big P.O.S. but it might not be that bad after all. 8)
  18. My distributor rotor isn't coming off. Is there some trick besides pulling it straight up? It's come right off with no problem on every other car I've ever worked on. :?:
  19. Well I got the car. It is offically the biggest P.O.S. corrado ever. I have no doubt that it is the worst condition running corrado out of everyone on this forum. Off to the garage to work my mechanical magic, I'll let you guys know how it is when I'm done.
  20. What about the U.S.? What shops will rebuild them and how much does it usually run USD? What about a performance rebuild, what's it called stage 4? Sorry, I'm a Corrado newb too.
  21. Hey guys I'm new to the forum, I just bought a 1990 Corrado G60. I don't actually have it yet, I'm picking it up tomorrow. Anyway, it looks like a fun car and this looks like a good message board. I come from the 3si.org message board, my last car was a Dodge Stealth (Mitsubishi 3000GT or GTO for all you non U.S. guys). What percent of this forum is from the U.S. anyway? It seems like most are in Europe. What were the U.S. production figures for the Corrado?, they are pretty rare over here for sure. Are there any Corrado or at least VW specific tuner shops or web sites around? Where can I order standard performance parts from like chips, 68mm pulley, etc? I don't care if they're in the U.S. as long as they will ship to the U.S. What are some shops in the U.S. that can rebuild the supercharger and how much does that usually cost in USD. What's all the difference with the stage 4 rebuild or whatever its called? The car I'm getting has 150K on it and I'm anticipating a supercharger rebuild in the near future but its ok cause I got a good deal on it. It also needs a new starter motor. I just planned to pick one up at the auto parts store and install it, is there anything special I need to know? How hard is it to get parts for these things in the U.S.? Thanks for any answers you guys can give me, let the good times roll!
  22. I'm new to the forum, I recently sold my '92 Dodge Stealth R/T (same as the Mitsubishi 3000GT a.k.a. GTO for all you non U.S. guys). My Stealth was 3.0L V6 DOHC 24v FWD automatic, engine makes 222hp (about 170 to the wheels on the automatic) and the car weighs about 3,200 lbs. The automatic runs a high 15 second / low 16 second 1/4 mile stock. The auto is a horrible dog off the line but pulls great from a 30+mph roll. The manual is almost a second quicker and then there's the TT AWD model that makes 320hp, weighs 3,700 lbs, and runs mid 13's stock in the 1/4 mile. I was wondering how this compares to a Corrado G60. I haven't been able to find any stock 1/4 mile times for the G60 yet. (I know most of you guys are in Europe and probably don't race the 1/4 mile, I dunno.) I'm looking at buying a '90 G60 and am wondering how its going to compare to the Stealth. Can the 1.8 8v supercharged engine actually pull in the mid range and have that low down torque like a 3.0L DOHC V6?
