  1. my mates doing a conversion on his mk4 golf from 288mm`s to 312mm`s, which would be going spare so there going on the corrado this weekend. but yeah, all ill be going for in the scrappy is 2 flexi hoses off a mk4 golf, i was looking at converting the rears to mk4 calipers too, but i really cant see the pro`s of doing it other than it damaging my wallet....
  2. i laughed when i noticed the clumps of nasty old sound deadening on the slam panel, obviously like me youve found clumps of it literally everywhere.
  3. well today i didnt touch the corrado, i just spent a bit of time on my other car, a mk4 golf. cleaned out the boot off tools, fitted a set of HID`s i had lying around, wired in a head unit and subwoofer that was in the garage, then vacuumed the insides of a good few months of dust and general crap. tommorow should be fun, going to wash both the cars to start off with, then throw myself into the corrado, removing the front subframe and all the suspension/braking/steering components
  4. cheers :thumbleft: the next biggish problem io need to work through is the central locking, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt, and ive had to modify the drivers door handle using a split pin because it was that worn and barely worked. aha yes, i know its flash red, LP3G, i guess thats what being up at 4/5am does, thanks for pointing it out :thumbleft:
  5. well, this is the start of what i know will be a very annoying, frustrating and confusing time, im stripping down bit by bit and rebuilding my corrado VR6 for the summer. after an accident in december, exactly 1 month and a day after i travelled to cornwall to pick her up, an idiot in a saxo reversed into the drivers side wing/door. got it all repaired and shes better than she was beforehand, no awfull T4 vent in the wing anymore.... anyway, the accident left me with a bill off 400 quid, which i paid for using the money for next months insurance, and this months tax and MOT. which means im now un-able to drive it, so shes now off the road untill the summer. im going to use this time to strip down all off the suspension components and upgrade the front and rear, upgrade the braking system, ill be removing all off the inlet/outlet and injection system, cleaning/repacing/upgrading anything that needs it, possibly port matching, removing the wiring loom in the engine bay and re-wrapping as its pretty un-tidy (in my eyes anyway), moving onto the interior (its pretty mint inside and i want to keep it origional as possible so im in two minds going for leather or not). this is how she was when i got her/on the way back from cornwall (the first thing i done was to remove the eyebrow.... no thanks) this is the engine bay as it was, since this was taken ive put the standard airbox back in and repaced a few bits of broken vacuum hose. then when i was out in morpeth, my ignition switch decided to die, thankfully it was it a petrol station and paper clip came to the rescue and got me home, i hope i never have to replace one again... this is the best pic ive got of the vents in the wing and after, i didnt like them and i was looking at wings before the accident, so in a way it got done for free, but i wouldnt have chosen to do it that way. and now and this is how she is today, well, yesterday, because its 4 in the morning.... [ in the three months ive owned her now ive allready done a fair bit on her, 2 track rod ends, full set of spark plugs, rear exhaust hanger, ignition switch, vacuum piping and an intact standard air box. Ive got parts in the boot to do the rocker cover gasket and both top mounts and bearings for the front struts. come back tommorow to see what ive been up to
  6. @timthetinyhorse - yeah, i need to do the same to mine really, ive got a leaky rocker gasket so ill have to get one ordered when im next in the garage. im also tempted to remove the lower part of the mani and possibly clean/spray up both sections in silver and spray the rocker up in black. honestly, id only recomend it if there isnt anything on the car you could spend £85 improving. if your engine runs spot on to start with, youl only get minimal improvements, thats what ive found anyway. and that sounds good to me matey :thumbleft: @jim bowen - no, i didnt have it carried out simply for emmisions, id heard of the system being used and saw it on wheeler dealers and was pretty impressed by the improvements it made, however, i think the jag they featured was one of the cases the system was origionally designed for, where the engine barely ran and emmisions were high. @davidwort - i also find that strange, i would have thought someone before now would have pulled the head off an engine which had used to system to physically see the effects. ive never believed in a "wonder bottle" if you like, theres nothing on the market which could possibly fix a head gasket for example, only do more damage to the cooling system and block up the likes of radiators and thermostats. but from what ive read the system chemically reacts with the carbon, removing it. but i have lapped valves before and cleaned up the rest and the ammount of effort it took to do so, i found it hard at first to believe it would even do anything, im tempted to remove my lambda sensor because apparantly the system cleans that to, should give a good indication as to whether or not its done anything.
  7. today i was the first vehicle through the doors of new delaval car and tyre sales in blyth who aquired the brand new terraclean system today. the bloke had literally left an hour or two before i turned up to drop the 2 machines off and all of the equipment, the gaffa had been round our garage a couple of days earlier basically talking about the new system that they were getting, and i told him to put me first on the list. it went in this morning with a slightly lumpy idle and a bit of a rich fuel smell on idle, i had allready done some work to the fuel and ignition system, replacing the spark plugs, fuel filter, vacuum hose on the fuel pressure regulator. fuel filter is recomended when you get your engine terracleaned, i had just carried out a full service on it a week before having it done. so, did it do anything? yes. it did, the engine ran 10x smoother than it did beforehand, throttle response was also improved, greatly, they set the engine to run at appx. 1500-1800 rpm, and after about 10 mins running with the machine connected, they had to reduce the pressure applied to the throttle by quite an ammount as the rpm`s increased as it cleaned through the engine. requireing less throttle to do more. was it value for money? yes and no, i think i expected a bit too much from the system, i always try to run my vr6 on shell v power, whenever i can. which according to shell, has 5x the ammount of nitrogen cleaning addative compared to a competator fuel. weather thats true or not i dont know. however i do notice a difference when i use it. weather or not me using vpower has allready started to work on cleaning the engine i dont know, but using the terraclean system certainly helped. at first i noticed a lack of power if you like. i was hard on the loud pedal expecting "instant" power back if you like, which didnt happen, it was making the noise of the vr6, but wasnt really moving like it used to. which kinda ****ed me off if you like after spending £85 on the system. however. ive taken the car for a really good run tonight and it was almost scary the flood of power in 2nd. thats the only way i can describe it. a flood. over the good few weeks ive owned the corrado now, i had started to get used to the power and what to expect when i planted my foot. tonight sort of threw that out of the window, whenever i boot it now for example i find myself lifting/easing off a lot earlier due to wheel spin and speed. (im running yokohomas on front, so not budgets/lack of grip). after tonight id say it was JUST worth it, my vr6 wasnt bad to start with, no smoke, idle was a little lumpy and i mean a little, and the power was cracking. but for the price, id have proberly steered away from it now as ive got a few interior pieces to replace and upgrage. i would recomend this system, to anyone, but not to expect wonders. id say with the system still being "brand new" the price had got a long way to fall before it becomes more reasonable. it made my engine run a lot smoother, improved my throttle response and made it that bit more powerful. id say youd only truely benefit from the system if your vehicle was struggling to pass emmisions and was running like a pile of sh*t. then youd see pretty big improvments, but with an allready spot on engine, dont expect wonders. spend that £85 elsewhere. ---------- Post added at 12:16 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:06 AM ----------
  8. i would very much like to be able to purchase the smaller items of trim which over the years gets lost or damaged, as well as exterior trim pieces and engine parts. for example; -door lock pins (mine have snapped and are hard to find intact) -floor mats -door handles (would much rather replace with a new unit, also replaces grey trim with fresh black trim) -door and wing bump strips (same reason as above, for a newer look) -replacement under bonnet foam -handbrake lever trim (not the actual main piece but the plastic piece below it which it screws onto) -early spec heater/fan control trim (bulb pops) -rocker cover to intake hose (vr6) -radiator fan (revival kit or replacenent)
  9. funnily enough i think theres a set in the garage, i bought them for my vr6, however, mine are in just as good a condition so didnt replace them, plus there black

    Running lumpy

have you looked for a vacuum leak using brake or carb cleaner. it is the easiest way of finding a vacuum leak rather than just looking over the hoses
  11. fixed the problem tonight, by fixing another problem, my wiper linkage had popped off so i was under the bonet fixing that when i noticed a small vacuum hose lying on top on the gear linkages, i got looking and hooked it back up to the pipe poking from the upper heatshield, heading back from blyth town centre to my house in south beach, i got a lovely 29 mpg :) well happy ---------- Post added at 2:17 AM ---------- Previous post was at 2:15 AM ---------- id read i think it was either on here or votex that only the 1.8`s ect ran off a vacuum, which kinda threw me off the idea that something in that area was causing the problem, obviously vr6`s run off a vacuum too, so to whoever posted that was true, think again ---------- Post added at 2:23 AM ---------- Previous post was at 2:17 AM ---------- it also fixed a rather lumpy idle too, which id been trying to fix for a week or two, cleaned the TB out and replaced a nasty bit of vacuum pipe for the fuel pressure regualtor. but, what puzzles me is on the intake hose where the oil breather hose (which ive also replaced) goes into it, theres like a sensor blank, it looks genuine vw but theres a connector which clips onto it, just seems odd how theres a connector going to no where really....
  12. the fan problem has seemed to have been cured. i had it in the garage i work at just doing bits and bobs, i cleaned up the terminals on the battery and a few grounding points which i think may have been the problem, it had sat around for around a year with few miles put on it which i dont think has helped it. even with it being garaged. it is a switch over model, late 92 early 93, and i believe it to be an early engine, simply because theres a dizzy on the right hand side of the inlet cam. it runs absolutly spot on, and it really doesnt feel under powered, far from it. im going down to a big car meet at teeside park tommorow, so ill work out my mpg over motorway miles tommorow and see how it fairs there. tommorow will be the last day ill be running her over winter. ive got the golf to run around in plus it gives me plenty of time to tidy her up over winter
  13. there are days when i go out in the car to drive it, and i do give it some boot. but most days i just cruise around in 5th in low revs. it has been serviced with OCD, and im not the first, ive got a service history for the car which fills a folder. ive had the car nearly 3 weeks now and ive allready given it a full service (2nd time in under 5k). i work in a garage and my other car a 1.6 mk4 golf, which ive maintained with the same level of care and thats just under 173k. it warms up to the correct temperature and stays there, ive had the thermostat go on my golf and 2 coolant temp senders and i know the trouble they can cause, just with the mk4, the same sensor gave dodgy readings to the coolant temp on the clocks, which i dont get on the vr6, also, i had it on the scanner at work today which threw up a code for the engine speed sensor, however i went into live data and found there to be nothing wrong with the part and it looks fairly new, which tells me the code proberly hasnt been deleted. ive had all the wheels off to remove and clean up the calipers, and i know that none of the calipers are binding on. it just seems odd to me that the faults which could cause a low mpg reading, arnt there :s which is why im lead to believe the readout on the clocks might be wrong, so im wondering what else could cause it
  14. i get an average of around 7-12 MPG on my display, im wondering if anyone could point in the direction of a faulty sensor or anything like that?
  15. ive had my corrado roughly 2 weeks now, pretty eager to see other people cars and have a look at what mods/changes theyve done to their cars, im based in newcastle too, would be good if we could sort out a meet somewhere
  16. hi all, bought my flash red corrado vr6 last monday, and i love it..... just a couple questions on mpg, on the clocks it gives an average of 4-5 when i boot it and 10-14 when im almost off the throttle in a high gear. this just seems pretty low even by a vr6`s standards, has anyone experienced problems with the multi function display giving dodgey mpg readouts? or would it be worth looking into ignition? i replaced the spark plugs the other day, HT leads are nearly new, only other thing i can think off is the ignition timing might be slightly out, it doesnt seem it though. also, my fans seem to run constantly, would it be worth replacing the fan relay with a "copy" or could it be something else? ive expereinced wayyy more problems with cheap sensors ect off ebay rather than genuine replacements, but 100 odd quid for a genuine one seems a bit steep.... chris
