How does this come into the equation?
-
Hi Guys I've done a lot of searching and delving throught the archives but can't seem to find a definitive problem or set of symptoms the same as i have with my 94 Vr. Full story goes... Car was left sitting around for a fortnight and when i got back to it, it had developed a misfire at low revs 1100 - 1900 rpm range + occasionaly on tickover. Initially i put it down to possible damp but after checking it was dry and all was clean it continued so i replaced the plugs which seemed to make it worse as it then developed what i can only describe as a soft limiter off and on between 4500 - 6000rpm (was trying to go but was being held back then would pick up like a rocket etc) So i started changing the plugs back but no joy, low and high misfire have remained! The ht leads are all in good nick (less than a year old and definitely clipped on properly this time  ) there is no arcing in the dark even with water mist and coilpack seems to be in one piece??? Does this sound like coilpack breaking down? Please help before i go bald!

A bush thats too tight?!

Fluid can also leak inside of gearbox casing from the slave leaving no trace apart from a loss of fluid.

That's not strictly true, there is a procedure to get the chip in the key to sync with the immobiliser/ignition i was told it and it was very simple. really sorry that i can't remember it but it is along the lines of lock, unlock, lock, unlock then start the car with that key within 30 seconds will try and find out for you.

To be honest i've only seen 3 heater matrix's that have gone and they've all been on the inlet shoulder and the crack has been such that no amount of radweld would fix it, your best bet as mentioned is to bypass it until you have the time to replace it. ENJOY!!

Step outside and have a word with yourself! Stop being a tight ar** and buy something that has some power and could survive an impact from a 2cv :)

Behave Dave! how did you get on with the flick key?

Spot on the Money Dutch VR6 i replaced the whole unit: sensor, thermostat etc and so far so good!

It's a brand new cap, i changed it when i did the coolant change 2 months ago

Hi Guys jumped in my 94 Vr this afternoon only to have the coolant warning flashing at me, so i stopped the engine to check and sure enough the header tank was pretty much empty. Since ive owned the car ive done a coolant flush and its been fine not using any water etc... there's no oil in the header and no water in the oil so i refilled it and bled it. its running perfectly and temps are all sensible all hoses hot etc. With the wet weather this weekend its impossible to tell if there is a leak so any ideas? water pump? main/aux or something much worse?

Sorry to jump on your thread Red-Baron but i'm in the same situation as you and have been advised to change the fan switch and thermostat. Problem is with all the different posts when you search "overheating" it seems to get a bit confused (maybe it's just me!) But looking at diagrams on the Vw tech site the 3rd plug furthest right after ecu and gauge is supposed to be for a/c yet i have this (black 2pin) no a/c in my C and according to My stealer this is the fan switch i need to replace? and they think there is no switch in the rad which there is! as you say dr matt. Please can someone help me and clarify exactly: 1. what the switch in the rad is for and its colour no. of pins? 2. what the third position switch (above thermostat in the row of three) is for if not a/c Many thanks in advance Will my C is a 94 VR6

Passed MOT yesterday, funny advisory!..
bigbluec replied to bristolbaron's topic in General Car Chat
Don't even start on the subject of dealers! i said i'd like some spark plugs for my VR6 and the guy ordered 4! -
If only all servicing could be this good! Tim and crew were just brilliant it was like popping over to a mates to fiddle with cars together really nice afternoon in the sun playing with my car. Really can't reccommend them enough i won't be taking my VR anywhere else again. Just a note for those of you thinking of trying them........ Take a good map!

Been looking through archives as i just made a flip key and someone mentioned that you could programme the VW key to work with clifford alarms anyone know if this is true and how to do it?
-
Worh a try... Have a look at the left hand side very front on the Head (as you look at the engine head on!) And there is a small sensor with a single spade clip which can come off and earth itself against the head or even the sensor base touching the head can cause the fan to run constatntly. Hoe that helps
-
I blame you Kev!! you were the last one to fiddle with my ht leads!! BTW that cover bolt was female and came out easy just tapped the proper size tool in with a baby hammer! The CPS has worked a dream no more flat spots or lack of power except when i dont put the HT leads on properly
-
Umm Slightly embarrassing  but the hazlet plastic tool i used hadn't pushed them on to the point of clicking on, just felt like it had, i guess the nice new rubber inside them was gripping the plugs fairly well. Mystery solved i hope.......
-
Yeah used the proper tool that NickVr6 has lent to me (life saver that boy!) the ht leads i bought are identical looking to the original berus with the metal surround etc but it appears that its this surround thats arcing against the head (they're arcing within the hole that surrounds the lead) Cant see how thats the coil pack if they're all firing well and no arcing around the pack itself obviously could be wrong so open to any ideas??
-
Help! Have been searching for hours now through everything to do with misfires and HT leads to solve my problem but no joy  My VR was missing and found it was due to one of the beru red leads constantly coming off one of the plugs regardless of how hard it was pushed on (think the retaining clip inside had given up the ghost) so i replaced all leads with a set from Ford (look identical to the berus metal casing etc) which seem pretty good imho but again tonight it started missing so opened up the bonnet to find all six leads appear to be arcing to the head  after reading through some of the search results came accross mention of liners? is there supposed to be a plastic liner going down towards the plug to prevent this happening or is there another reason for this? Brgds Will

Christ thats a bit clever will go and try that now! Cheers Trigger! nice to meet you although briefly at stealth and glad the OBD2 is finished finally. Thats so cool it does work!!
