Hi Guys, Just a quick question i seem to have a break in my Live feed from the battery to the starter and also thought that i'd replace the earth for good measure as it's seen better days. Not really a problem until i phoned the local stealer to find out cost and was told that they would be £37 and £32 respectively  is there anywhere cheaper to get them, is the positive the same on MK2 Golf's if so could go to the scrappy?

OMG that's got to be the worst car crash i've ever seen
-
Right finally it started! God knows why it wouldn't as it definitely had fuel and a nice Fat spark :?: but after getting some one else to tow and bump start my car (took 2 miles) it's back to being its normal start at first turn of the key! so sorry i can't shed any light on it but guess it was just throwing a strop for not being driven!
-
Cheers guys i'll give that a go and let you know how it goes.....

Wasn't sure which was the fuel in and which was the fuel return so tried both and fuel is coming out of both :?: What is going on ? think my car is :cuckoo:

Right guys i've read god knows how many posts during a search for the above title but none seem to have the exact answer...... So please dont kill me for putting up a very regular question. Background: (1990 1.8 16v KR) Heater Matrix went about a month and a half ago and i immediately stopped engine as luckily it was in my driveway, have been taking my time to do this job as i've lost my License for six months  (Speeding) and finally put it back together last week, went to start it but no joy just turns over with no hint of firing at all. I've checked for a spark which i have, the plugs seem to smell of fuel and are damp. What can it be? i have fuel and spark so it doesn't make much sense to me. Are these possibilities? - Moisture in fuel after being sat for month and a half (Quarter of a tank left) -One of the fuel pumps have gone? Can hear initial surge of pump when i first turn the key. Surely it can't be head gasket as it would at least fire on one or two badly? Thanks for sparing me your time!

You're a star cheers! oh what a fun job it's turning out to be
-
Hope you've managed it already but if not this might be of use. Not a fun job but mine came out by simply removing: -The two screws in the top lining. -Remove the glovebox light -Where the glovebox door hinges at the bottom there is a slide in long bit of plastic that fills the gap between the door and the box itself lift that directly up and behind that are two screws -Try and get it so that it comes out more bottom first than top.

Hi guys have finished putting heater matrix back in car today but when it came to reconnecting the bowden cables i realised that i had forgotten where they go  have managed to work out where the blue and long black cable connect but can't seem to see where the third short black cable which i guess controls the flap to the windscreen de mist goes. have had a look at all pics and advice i could find by searching but no joy. Mine is a early Valver with the slide controls and no aircon. cheers guys.

The list seems endless.. -Finish replacing heater matrix and reinstall dash -Coolant change -Put new starter motor on with new positive and earth leads -Clean carpets and seats properly! any ideas on cleaning headlining guys? -Remove door bump strips -Headlight wiring loom upgrade And so the list goes on and none of these seem to be bits i want to do! :(

I thought the R was to do with it being a narrow angle V6?

My old mk2 8 valve made it to 325,000 miles with original gbox and engine but by the end was a little whiney and tappety

Difficult as i dont have the bentley manual and also i dont have original leccy windows. but in any switch system the live feed usually always goes to the switch then on to the item that needs the power. think your best bet is to trace the wires from your switch back to the fuse box and try to see if there are any relays or control modules between tthem that could be causing the problem.
-
My understanding is that the main power supply goes to the switches first then the switch sends the current to the motor. so it doesn't make much sense that there is power at the motor but not at the switch. You should have a single live and a single negative both supplying each switch separately i.e single live wire converted into two lives feeding to each switch individually. check that there is power there first of all.

My Valver used to do that, feel almost like it was lerching or being held back then when the revs picked up it would take off, almost the same feeling as when a car is misfiring but obviously smoother being that it was firing on all four. this used to last for about five minutes when it was cold and although cant promise it is the same thing when i changed the ISV on mine the problem went the same day and hasn't come back.......yet!

Right will stick the meter across the motor this afternoon! so what is there elctrically between the ignition switch and the starter i.e does it run through a relay some where or is the only thing involved the connection at the ignition switch?
-
Hi, no the starter doesnt make any noise, i know its in good nick as its only 6 months old, i guess the next step would be to stick a multi meter on the starter to see if it is actually being sent any current. Where is the relay to the starter? Cheers guys

I changed to TOYO Proxes last time i needed some tyres from michelin pilots and the difference is incredible in both wet and dry. I will never go back to pirelli's or michelins after trying these they're absolutely brilliant and a very reasonable price.

Hi guys + girls Another starting problem on my KR Valver. Right here goes the battery is in good nick as is the starter motor and earth connections, i have replaced the ignition switch in the last month but still no joy. My car when you turn the ignition powers everything up fuel pump and everything else as normal but when you turn the key through to the start position nothing happens as if it is not connecting the circuit to the starter motor so i'm having to bump start it every time which is irritating at best! please can someone come up with an idea that DOESN'T involve the ignition switch or earthing ideas. Is there a relay or or something else on the way to the starter motor that could restrict or stop the current being given to the starter? Many thanks in advance....

RS6 Absolutely bloody incredible bit of kit! would love to shoe horn that engine in a VR! Maybe one day!

Although the leccy window switches are/should normally mounted in the door card mine has a retro fit with them either side of the handbrake and in my opinion and a couple of mates with rado's it's much better looking and to use and looks very natural.
