  1. Yep, the oil use of the forged JE pistons is a characteristic - This is where your clifford intellistart comes in handly to warm the engine fully up to temp before jumping in and going for a hoon. Mine was going through a stage of doing a litre of oil every 500 miles or so, but this has died down to more realistic levels. I do get a bit of oil blow back, but this is more likely to be the the charger recirc delay as the engine comes of boost and onto Vac. Worthwhile getting a catch tank... (note to self to get round to fitting it!) off the oil breather on the rocker cover. Good luck with whatever you decide on Joe, as I said to you in my PM in hindsight I wish I'd gone down the 1.8T route - or V6 24v. But I suppose the VR6 pursit in me took control of my spending habits! -
  2. Ever considered why we didn't get a petrol warning light or buzzer? - Maybe for the exact reasons of the inaccuracy of the gauge or float arm on the pump. Annoyingly mine used to be relatively accurate, until I had an uprated fuel pump fitted. I can only assume the float arm was disturbed :-( I've added it to my list of annoyances that need attention.
  3. Those dials thru the steering wheel look good, shame you can't illuminate them a little more to match the Stac. Led's? Great progress btw... all you need now is a set of leather seats LOL ;-)
  4. That's funny, on my Clifford alarm because of the negative earth on the full closure module I had to wire up an in-line relay to do the closure. Be warned you could end up burning out motors if you give an excessive pulse. If it was working your original fitter - (was it sounds alarming?) may have installed a relay, Jay may have knocked this connection when he had bits of the dash out, as I doubt he would have disconnected the battery or anything else alarm related.
  5. Beautiful... I know I'm slightly biased but Mystic Blue Pearl is truely the best colour in the world (Gulp) .... wishing I hadn't got bitten by the modification bug now ;-/
  6. Steve, you going to have it all back together prior to Le Mans? I was hoping to change the box, add an LSD etc. But I'm considering driving over to Wothersee now too, so this 'idea' may change somewhat.
  7. Good luck Jay -! I can imagine the sleepless nights the week before the trip already! I presume you've managed to get hold of a VR6 sub frame to mount the engine?
  8. 2 easy places to find it: 1) White printed sticker located in the boot (should match the one in the first page of your owners handbook) 2) Open the bonnet, look at the bulkhead / skuttle the number is stamped into the bodywork of the car - should start something like WVWZ HTH Guy
  9. Could be anywhere behind the dash, take a multimeter and check there is continuity / power getting to the illumination contacts on one of the bulb holders. If there is, it may be conincidental that the bulbs have gone, otherwise something more related to the wiring behind the dash going to the fuse box. Check that the illumination dimmer is working, i.e with side/headlights on make sure the speedo clocks illumination changes. ... it's a good place to start, the ash tray light is the easiest one to get to btw ;-) Guy
  10. Should be as simple as the bulbs needing replacing, first off check that your courtesy light inside the ash tray is working. From memory the same feed for the illumination circuit G58 is used for this, the heater controls and the cigar lighter. If the dash has been out, it may be the 2 pin connectors haven't been re-connected. Good luck hunting!
  11. Yeah I guessed it was fairly 'useless' except for breaking and rusting.... but surely the german bods fitted it for a specific reason, I just couldn't think of one.
  12. OEM leads should be good for at least 60k miles, use a plug lead tester to check continuity. The fault could be with your coil, coil pack(if you have one) or plugs themselves.
  13. I've thought about this myself Andy, coupled with relocating the battery to the boot that is. I recently upgraded my alternator and have seen improved battery readings of 13.5 - 14 volts when the car is running, but the car sometimes judders when there is a heavy electrical load. (Xenon headlights and heated seats don't help!) I thought of implementing / rewiring the following connections: 1) battery to chassis ground 2) battery to intake manifold 3) intake manifold to opposite side of the engine head (in the front) 4) engine block to gearbox 5) engine block back the battery - basically creating a dasiy chain. On this topic, what is the requirement of the earth strap to the bonnet? Mine is currently snapped, but I can't think of a purpose for it being there. BTW I'm going to speak to big John about arranging a meet at the Smugglers on 27th February. Cheers, Guy
  14. Can't help, but I know a expert that could over the phone. You need to speak to Keith at A/C/E services in Chertsey he's very versed on the Diavia kits often used on the VR6. 01932 570333 HTH Guy
  15. Stop Dreaming Radford - Get the Corrado running first eh?
  16. To pick up on this thread.... It's not only the cost of the Supercharger and fitting you have to take into consideration, it's the others that make the whole package: 1) engine mounts and transmission 2) Propper ECU mapping/software - The Giac chips and Z-engineering chips aren't the best for the job 3) Something to prevent pre-detonation? - Cooling - / Aquamist? 4) Most importanly, the reliability of your car. - I've been through 3 different chargers and one engine rebuild at the expense of trying to get more power out of the car I dearly love. - Basically all I'm saying is, have a rainy day fund ready in the event things don't work out as planned.
  17. I have the good MPG (108MPG) of the original articles on the Corrado and the trip to the musem. If someone wants to open up their FTP server I'll gladly upload it for people to download/view. (It's a larger version than the one Jamie mentioned). Cheers, Guy
  18. Feck know's what's going on here... I don't have an click happy finger I promise! Sure Roddy... I can mail you some snaps or the Article it was featured in if you want to see it?
  19. I must admit I have enjoyed every moment of my now 4th day of ownership of the R32. Really I wish I was owner number one on the VRD and had never cancelled the order I had back in November last year, but at least I've saved a few quid and now have something to go for the AmD mods that are bound to happen! Not that I'm saying the car is slow or anything, but it could do with a few more horses. The chassis is 2nd 2 no other car I have ever driven, you can really throw it about. Now the question is, will AmD drop the VAT for cash? - Just got back from Ace Cafe and there were actually 3 R32's there, and 4 C's. Almost as common! The 2 C owners I flashed at over the last few days must wonder who the feck that mad chap in the golf was! Guy
  20. Again, A big thanx for the invite and Vince and his team. Needless to say I was a little disappointed with my RR results, however expected to some degree as I am still running a Z-engineering based ECU designed for a 2.8 VR6 lump where mine is now 3.0 and has lowered compression. Especially as when running on the old 2.9 and Z-engineering setup was running 269bhp :? I’m in the process of getting a smaller pulley to take the boost to 13psi and change the injectors. Cams are also on my shopping list, So watch this space!| Cheers chaps, Guy
