Thanks wormy, that does't sound too bad if its just that once a month. What happens to the other end where the return pipe connects to? Does that need some sort of plate too or can it just stay open?
-
Hmm ok, thank you for the advice. Let me ask another question then. I can't move the position slider to the far right (Windscreen) as I fear I'm going to snap the whole thing off. It's either something inside is blocking it or its broken. Anyone experienced this?

Is it possible to swap out the late heater controls for the new style ones? I have the ones where you slide the knob in a straight line to turn up the temp and which blowers you want to use and I always feel like I'm going to break them. I want a set from the VR6 which are all twisty knobs. Hope I'm making sense here.

Not sure how much work I'll get done on it by then but there are bits that need fixing so don't expect anything fantastic

I cant tell you wormy as its being send out to me in the post. The guy didn't have any more at the stand at UD. But the HHS bit rings a bell. Where do you spray this grease? Would I need to remove the blanking plate or any other part to do it? @Jim - thank you for that list. I believe my car already has the 68mm pulley and a remap, as well as the Stage 4 charger. If I make it to the next meet maybe you could take it for a spin and see if it behaves like expected from those mods.
-
Wow! I think this has been remapped already but I am planning a trip up to Jabba to get it checked out. Could you tell me more about this intercooler please?
-
This is the kind of feedback I am looking for Jim, so thank you :) I did buy a can of some special grease with it that the bloke said you need to spray on there regularly. It does sound like a bit of faff. I might just put it on for a bit to try and see what its like but I think you're right, its all a bit pointless.
-
Sorry, should have qualified that better. Yes its replacing the boost return pipe.

While at UD I came by the OCD (Only Charged Dubs) stand and bought myself one of their blanking plates. I had a brief chat to the guy about it but wanted to ask on here if there are negative effects of fitting these? As far as I gather it stops the hot air going out of the supercharger back into the engine, which is a good thing. Other effects are mainly noise related, which I am looking forward to trying out.
-
Thanks supercharged. Sorry for the silly questions, I've read the thread and tried to understand but sometimes I need to ask questions just to clarify things. For now I have the DX bolt fitted as that's what we had available, but I did order a PG bolt which will get fitted in the next month or so as there are some bits that need changing on the car that require it to be removed.

I went up in the G60 and made it there and back without problems. Win :D I saw a black Corrado stuck in that massive queue of traffic, I was in a layby with the convoy I was part of as one of the guys had a burst water hose (one of the fans was touching it and cut right through it!). Gave the bloke a thumbs up :D Was that anyone off here? Never been to the show before and to be honest I don't think I'll go again. I certainly didn't enjoy the 3hrs we spent in traffic to travel 3 miles!!! Had fun driving the car though so at least that part was good. I definitely think they need to manage parking and the traffic better, not just leaving it up to the public to sort it out. Felt sorry for all the non-dubs trying to get through it all.

Yesterday I fitted matching leather door cards to complete the full leather set in the car and at the same time fitted some GZ coaxial speakers :)
-
Had some time last night so I changed over the door cards and the speakers. I have an early model so few things are slightly different (pic), so thought I'd write up what I had to do: - On the outside edge of the door there are 2 screws - On the inside edge, towards the top there is 1 screw - The window and mirror buttons just pop off with your hands (the mirror one is L shaped so pop off, pull up and towards you) - The trim around the door handle slides off (pull towards the outside edge of the door) - The long door handle (the one you grab to shut the door) is the trickiest, took me ages to get it off. Ideally you need two people for this. You need to split it in two, as there are 2 large screws at either end. Way I managed to get it off is I pulled the top part, trying to split it away from the second part and then my mate stuck a flat head screw driver at the top and pushed it off. - The triangle near the wing mirror just pops off, with 3 clips holding it in place - Behind the speaker trim (which just slides off towards the inner edge of the door) there is a long screw - Lastly unscrew the door lock pin - The door card should now pull away, just dont forget to unplug the speakers!!

Thank you for the information, I can see where you are coming from. I am going to take the car in to work tomorrow and monitor the water temperature and report back. For now I am planning just to give the system a flush, replace the coolant and the thermoswitch.
-
Awesome guide, cheers the help guys. I will be doing this on Saturday if the weather holds up. ---------- Post added at 11:30 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:11 AM ---------- Just looking at the radiator fan switches, and there are 4 available from Euros. Each seems to have a different temperature range. Could someone steer me in the right direction which one I should get? Part numbers I'm getting from Euros are: 223440170 223440110 223440120 223440290

Sorry for being a complete noob but did you do all that on the system still being "opened", as in the water just poured out the bottom? I was thinking pink also, seeing as I have some in the garage
-
I'm going to do a coolant flush this weekend. Is it worth using any of those products out there that are meant to clean up any old deposits in the cooling system? Or just drain the old stuff and fill up with new? That also leads me to another question - pink or blue coolant?
-
Thank you guys. I did think the water temp was a bit excessive. Will look more into it.
-
Just want to check if the temperatures I am getting in my G60 are normal or if I need to be worried. The oil temperature I think is fine, reaching about 90C after driving for a few miles and then steadily holding between 100-110C for the rest of the time, be it motorway or town driving. Never seem oil to be above 110C. My water however seems to be over 100C also, reaching 110C after thrashing it about a bit. Does this sound normal to you guys?

Glad you got it sorted. Got a pic of the one you had fitted before?

Awesome, thank you for the guide. I will be doing this on Saturday hopefully. Now to find me some speakers for the fronts so I can replace those at the same time.
