I don't think the ECU needs it, its just to give a warning that your service is due. Has anyone got a pic of how they put they 12v oil pressure senders onto the R32's oil filter housing? Does eash one need to be in a certain position and is the existing sensor in there for the MFA?
-
I've sussed those now thanks A - G40 Hall Sener 1 B - G163 Hall Sender 2 C - N205 Inlet cam control valve 1 D - N318 Exhaust cam control valve 1 James, i've got the numbers nd ordered the plugs now but thanks for the offer

Excellent, thanks for that. I'll see if I can find C&D on my wiring diagram. Would anyone with a mk5 engine be able to do me a favour and look at the part numbers for the plugs which go onto each of those sensors? I'm also still unsure about Relay 100 for the SAI, if I leave it there do I still need to connect the main power and eart wires that run to it or are they just for the pump? At the minute my battery only had the main power from the starter/alternator and the power to the fuse box on one side, and on the other the main earth to the engine/box, fuse box earth and one from the loom.

Could anyone tell me which is which on these 4 sensors?:

I'm in excatly the same position James with mk5 engine and ancilliaies but Mk4 looms and ECU (Already immob defeated and modified to plug into my mk2 fusebox). I have written down the mk4 and mk5 pin out and have them here side by side. Mk4: T121/pin115 is a Blue/Brown wire 1.0 it goes to pin 2 of the N205 Inlet can control valve 1 T121/pin120 is a Grey/Blue wire 1.0 it goes to pin 2 of the N318 Exhaust cam control valve 1 Mk5 T121/pin115 is a Purple/White wire 1.0 it goes to pin 2 of the N205 Inlet cam control valve 1 T121/pin120 is a Purple/Blue wire 1.0 it goes to pin 2 of the N318 Exhaust cam control valve 1 Based on that its just the plug thats a different size and the wires are different colours. I'm assuming the fact that the are still called N205 and N318 that they are the same sensor and that all the pin 1's are earths? ---------- Post added at 4:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 4:00 PM ---------- Whats everyone else done with relay 100 for the secondry air pump?

Looking at the diagrams again it looks like any lambda's can be used but a couple of the pins need swapping over. I think i'll buy some blank plugs and make a small 'mk4 loom to mk5 lambda' conversion loom, it would save me trying to find mk5 ones if I end up needing the mk5 looms and ECU. The extra plug under the alternator you mention on page 113 is for the air con, it joins the alternator plug and the 4 wires run to . connector near the starter.

I swapped my mk5 injectors for mk4 ones, aparently the mk4 ones flow about 4% more fuel.

Got that now, cheers James!! I've just listed all the T121 pin outs from the Mk4 BFH wiring diagram and the BUB one so I can now see whats different. I wondered if I could put it onto a spread sheet on the forum so you could search for wire colours or sensor numbers rather than flicking through the wiring diagrams, I have no idea if that would be useful or how to do it but i'll have a good try. What Lambda probes do you have? I have Mk5 ones x 4 but they look to be wired different to the mk4 ones so i'm looking to swap with someone. I've been routing the wiring on my car today, I had to cut a 45mm hole in the bulkhead so I could have the ECU in the factory position, that was a bit harsh because its recently been painted but the guy's at the garage had a cutter that tightened with a 19mm spanner and it cut the hole very very neat. Can anyone tell me which sensor is which on the side of the head? I think they are : G40 - Hall Sender G163 - Hall Sender 2 N205 - Inlet Cam Control Valve 1 N318 - Exhaust Cam Control Valve 1

Nice one, I might even try and make a list of the 121 pins on each ECU to see what is different. I'm upto page 47 now and notice Phatvr5 mentioned the cam thing on about page 5. Mines a mk2 and was previously a VR6, I didn't have the 2nd water pump plumbed in and just ran the fans off the rad switch. I think the Mk4 and mk5 ecu's control the 2nd after run pump on the R32 engines so I hope to relocate it to the back of the head and hope that the ECU will run it.
-
I'll plan to get mine running as it is now I and then think about the mk5 ECU (I got one with the engine and sold it for peanuts). My engine has 19,??? miles on so I don't fancy touching that either. Any chance you could e-mail me the mk5 wiring diagram to [email protected] ? Cheers. This is where i'm upto with mine, i'm also upto page 36 of this thread, ha ha!!:

Bummer, I also heard you can swap the cam sprocket but thats a job in itself. Are you OK to still use your mk4 ECU to VR6 fusebox section of loom with the mk5 engine loom and mk5 ecu? I'm gutted to have found this out, does anyone have a decent mk5 wiring diagram? I have a mk4 one but wanted to compare the 2 in relation to the plugs that dont fit.
-
Hello Matt!! Yes, finally got it in, I booked 3 days off works and was expecting to be driving it on the second day but typically everything seemed to go wrong and I didn't manage to get it running. I bought the engine and looms seperate, the mk4 plugs are bigger than the mk5 ones so they wont fit into the 4 sensors on the side of the head. I removed the SAI and blanked it off like this: http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/536499_3556360422379_1073771319_33095211_2065239148_n.jpg I still have the big and small plugs for it and still have the No.100 relay. Theres a blue/yellow that seems to go between the MAF and relay which is putting me off removing it. There are a few other redundant connectors (charcoal filter, air con, etc..) that I also want to remove and bin.

I have just put a 2007 BUB engine into my mk2. I've used mk4 looms and ecu and have founf the lambda plugs, cam sensors and a couple of other plugs dont fit the socket. I'm unsure weather I should swap the sensors or the plugs on the loom? I'm also wondering what to do with the wires and relay (No.100) for the secondry air injection? Can I strip these out? Apart from that there is just 1 wire that comes out from the loom near the ECU plug, Its brown/red (i think) and has a ring terminal on the end. Any idea? Cheers.

I heard the mk4 and mk5 engines use a different cam sprocket due to the VVT. I have no idea what that means but aparently my mk5 engine with mk4 loom and ECU will need it swapping over. PhatVR6 told me that and a guy called Andy at ACR in Darlington had swapped it in a mk3 Golf R32. You re obvuisly further on then me with your conversion so can I ask you a couple of questions? 1. Did you use Mk5 wiring with the Mk4 ECU? I've found the connections for lambdas and cam sensors are differenet between mk4 and mk5 and the wires are all different colours. 2. Whats the wire (brown/red I think) very close to the ECU plug? 3. What did you do with the connection and relay (no.100) for the secondary air pump? Did you strip it out or leave it in? 4. What about the reverse light switch? Did you put an old style connector onto it? Cheers
-
I cant seem to open the file on this computer. But I have read it and found it very helpful, i'm converting a mk2 golf thats been a 12v VR6 for a while. Any chance of me asking a few questions on this thread? What did you do with the secondary air system under the throttle body? Did you just blank it off with a metal plate? My rear engine mount has previously been cut down by too much and is like jelly, could I replace it with a new uncut one or does it need a cut? I've just taken my VR6 engine out today and will be using a mk5 R32 engine with mk4 looms and ECU (modded and decoded by Andy Outwaite), mk4 fuel rail, fpr and injectors, 4motion alternator bracket, VR6 pas pump (need to change the pully to 4 motion one?), VR6 box, clutch and flywheel, Modified mk5 downpipe, mk4 dbw pedal, mk4 maf, mk4 air box (if I can get it to fit). Thats all I can think of at the minute. I've got everything except for the tensioner and PAS pully.
-
OK, cheers. Thanks for the reply.
-
Or does it need to be a 4motion one? Do anyothers fit? Also would the belt be a 4motion without aircon one? I'm using a mk5 R32 engine and have a 4motion accessory bracket, r32 alternator, VR6 pas pump, 4motion pas pully. Cheers.
-
I could also do with some advice about stuff to remove. There is the vacuum system that fixes the the front of the inlet manifold, could anyone tell me what that is and if I can remove it. Also the secondary air system, i've removed the big pump and bracket from the front of the engine but what about the other part to it under the throttle body? Thanks.
-
I'm putting an R32 in my mk2 (currently a 12v) and just need the tensioner and manifold/downpipe to complete my collection of bits. Are the 4 motion and VR6 tensioners the same?
-
Is that it at the end of the red wires? How much for a new one?
-
On the VR mk2 i just taped it to the ring and it was fine. I'll give it a try though. Someone on cgti tried starting there mk3 8v with the chip out of range and the car still fired up but died shortly after. I feel insulted!!!!

Too many post causing ignition overload, a common problem of mine  Where is the switch and what does it look like? Is it the black cap thing? Yep, i also used a mk3 loom for them, i had to swap the postion of the +ve and add an earth to them but they work fine. I got the info from here - http://www.clubgtiworcs.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=1915

When i turn the key to the IGN. position the fans comes on (so i preume all my ignition lives work) but i get no red lights on the clocks. Then when i turn the key to start the car there is nothing. What do you think is wrong? (sorry its a mk2 golf not a C)

Cool!! Thanks :)

So far i've done this: Pin 4 - Brown------------> Earth Pin 7 - Grey/White------> Engine loom Pin 15 - Yellow------------> ? Pin 16 - Red/White -------> Q3 on fuseboard Where does the yellow one go? Fuse box or engine loom? If fuse box which postion? If engine loom does it go to the yellow wire with the black male plug or the yellow wire with the yellow female plug? Any help would be appreciated.
