Jim 2 Posted May 24, 2003 Well finally.. one perk of driving a group 7 car is the cost of insurance. Just had an online quote from More Than, which is the best I have ever had. 22 year old, 3 years no claims, no points/accidents on Saxo VTR - £612. And thats an online quote! I reckon I can get that down with a bit of haggling over the phone and bouncing between a few companies. Wonder if £500 is achieveable :)
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted May 24, 2003 More Than (part of Royal & SunAlliance) are normally really expensive as they traditionally prefer 50 plusers on their books. The online quote will be the cheapest since they don't have to pay anyone to haggle with you over the phone. I paid £650 online for my VR6 through Axa direct. It's cool, just bung your details in, enter CC number and 2 days later your Certificate of Motor insurance drops on the mat  Kev 94 VR6
Jim 2 Posted May 24, 2003 Time to give Axa a shot then! :) *edit* At £910 they can, as the saying goes, fook orf :)

H8RRA 0 Posted June 3, 2003 believe it or not!!!!! i'm paying £320 fully comp for a VR with Halifax. They give 10% discount over the web and by paying with a halifax account/credit card. How about that for a deal!!!!
Jim 2 Posted June 3, 2003 I get pissed off with insurance companies. They refused to quote me on my Saxo VTR.. a group 7 car for crying out loud. What the hell am I supposed to drive?!

Rpmayne 0 Posted June 6, 2003 Try elephant.co.uk. Have tried ringing through all the dodgy companies at the back of max power and elephant was the cheapest by a long way. Have been with them for a couple of years on Golf GTi's which might make a difference. 23 years old, 2 years NCB, standard VR6 with 21 year old girlfriend on the policy, Fully comp. £840.00. Only £100 more than my modified 8v Golf TPFT!
GazzaG60 0 Posted June 6, 2003 all depends where you live. i pay 780 TPTF with elephant was 200 cheaper than nearest rival. Im in Sunny Oldham which doesn't have insurance benifits of living in the south or out in the sticks. im 26 with 3 yrs no claims
VR6 0 Posted June 6, 2003 What does everyone think of this idea........ We could have a sticky thread (ie sticks at the top of the forum it's in)........ We put down some specific (average) details and we could all chip in and select and insurer to get a quote from. This way we have a whole list of insurance quotes for a 23 year old driver, with 3 points, driving a G60/VR etc, 3 years ncb and we can pick a random post-code. So at the end, we have a list that compares each insurer's quotes for the same driving details. Good for comparison. ??
Guest Posted June 14, 2003 Annual renewal time :- for last yr been with Wren (now changed name to Brit Insurance) via Chris Knott, VWCCGB brokers, after NU last yr wanted £200+ more for no reason . Age 46 , Bank Mgr (Ok , Ok !!) Corrado 2.0 16v 1992 value £4.5k , 7 yrs prot NCB , FC , SDP , Only Driver , Thatcham Cat 2 immobiliser plus alarm , 6 points (1999 + 2001 2 x SP30) , Garaged / On Drive , 12k miles p.a , £250 xs. Best of loads via net Sainsburys (surprisingly) , as an after thought , £394 plus extra 5% if pay on one of their credit cards plus 1k nectar points . Rang CK , asked them to try harder (Tim Slater , good guy , worth asking for) and got £389 from Highway who specialise in members of car clubs hence VWCCGB subs pay off again . Also told they are only one of 50 insurers who CK use who for extra £28 will do agreed value as essential for my mint 16v . Quite happy with that as less earlier this yr than our Mk 2 Golf GTI 8v with Lpool Victoria . Looks like Highway will have it for the agreed value or might have been Sainsburys . HTH anyone else .
