Leather advice...

Recommended Posts

Hi, been offered a set of grey leathers, std not heated, for £250, from a mate. Includes all the grey plastics and the door cards. However, both the drivers and passenger bolsters will probably need recovering (dont look good at all - scratched/worn), so means I have to get both seats done. Also, whoever owned it put additional speakers in the front door cards - mid and tweeter a total of 3 speakers in each, may change the speakers for some subtle black ones, as getting the door cards done as well is going to cost. Whole lot needs a damn good cleaning too, I don't understand why people dont look after these seats? Anyway, the rear seats look good as do their door cards.

I may keep the black plastics in mine, as I like the grey/black contrast, also I have a silver car.

The question is would anyone think that £250 is worth it bearing in mind the work that is required to bring these seats back from the dead?

well full leather interiors in good condition normally sell on ebay for £800-£1000 so £250 is cheap.

probably cost you about £400 to fully retrim both front seats but it still makes it a good price if the rest is in good nic

Thanks guys, very interesting. Was hoping that these seats would come up a bit further down the line as I really want to get my bodywork done first and I dont have anywhere to store them. So as this looks like a good deal, it seems like its leather seats first then body work. At least I will be comfortable in my trolley dented excuse for a corrado...

How long does it usually take to do the seats? Thinking I may fit the rear seats and door cards and keep my current seats and just drop off the leather front seats at MJ's. Right now to tell the girlfriend and better find something to sell.... maybe the push bike, it is winter after all...

people who cut up door cards for "extra" speakers should be shot.

in the knackers.

I know I was absolutely gutted when I saw those door cards... might have to consider recovering them at a later date or keeping an eye out on ebay etc. For now I will just have to get some very plain, neat round mid range speakers (dont care about the sound as long as they look reasonably neat), the tweeters aren't too bad - at least they are tiny.

recover em mate

in fact dont even use them until you have.

maybe even use parts of your original cards to repair them.

sh-it happens though. in my mk2 escort days i hacked up the door cards for extra speakers. that was in 1991 though. but then there NO speaker pods in that car. in the Corrado, there is four already up front.

dont keep putting plasters on the wound, get it stitched up

Thanks for the advice, will investgate this. And its true, they would be so much better without the speakers.

If I add in the cost of recovering the door cards, then what are we talking? Including covering two front seats for ~£400 as Jedi says, then am I looking at something like £600 including the door cards? Is £250 still a sensible price considering this?

This push bike better fetch a lot of money on ebay... what else can I sell, my girlfriends bike.... will she notice...
