Which Corrado to Buy ?

Which one should I buy, pending my preferences:

I know i cannot afford running cost of VR6.

 

This will be my first Corrado, although had plenty of drive time in Scirocco. I wish to find a car that:

1. is reliable

2. lost maintenece £ out of the selection

 

I want to find one with:

3. Milage under 100k

4. Mint condition

5. Standard - VW parts used, keep insurance down (as im 24)

6. History; Mot's,

 

More questions:

7. Im a tad confused which version is better, is the 2.0 16v more reliable & is it slower than the 1.8?

8. Im considering ruling out the G60 due to maintenance cost

9. Im looking to spend £3k but for £4k it would have to be very low milage and pristene con'

10. one with a higher spec internally would be a Bonus!

11. WHICH has the ACTIVE SPOILER ?????

 

If YOU can have a stab at helping answer the above points, Great !

First...

 

They all have an active spoiler, they were all made by Karmann and they were all 'limited' edition. So don't fall for the nonsense you see in some Auto Trader ads :)

 

Next, it's probably worth having a look at http://www.corradoclub.co.uk/specifications.html for the car specs, it should give you an indication of performance as well.

 

With regards to maintenance, don't expect a Corrado to be cheap to run. The smaller engined ones tend to be cheaper mechanically, but it's the interior and misc Corrado specific bits that are prone to breaking and expensive to replace.

 

As far as 1.8 vs 2.0 and various incarnations, I can't help you as I've got a VR :)

 

Good luck with the search though, with that budget you should be able to get youself a corker. You won't regret it once you've driven one ;)

They all have active spoilers (might not be working) 2.0 16v is best bet as not as old as 1.8's so posibly less problems, look on autotrader.co.uk

1) they're all at least 9 years old now, so you'll struggle to get something properly reliable... the 16Vs are pretty rock solid though...

2) some of the parts are eye-wateringly expensive, but again, the 16V has the least of these parts 'cos the engines were used in bulk in other VAG cars too, so second hand spares/after market bits are easier to come by....

3) good luck.... milage is largely irrelevant on these cars (unless it's mega low!)... It's how the car's been looked after that's more important...

4) obviously... ;)

5) again, good luck, most cars will have had aftermarket bits used on 'em now as some of the dealer prices are just silly... this doesn't mean that it'll affect your insurance though, and also doesn't mean that the parts will be of a lesser quality either...

6) obviously! 8)

7) there's not a lot in it speed and accelleration wise... the 1.8 was upgraded to a 2.0 to compensate for all of the emission stuff and Cat that had to be put onto the car to get it through the newer regulations and also to make it run on unleaded from standard... the 2.0 will be a newer car so would probably be a better bet, although for the money you want to spend, the extra new-ness will take a large chunk of the 4K...

8) fair enough... the insurance would also hurt you too...

10) the only "higher specs" were leather or Riccaro seats... just about all except the very early 16Vs and the 8Vs had the full electric pack...

11) they all have the active spoiler...

£4k can probably get youa a decnt VR6 now but you will probably have to bide you'r time looking for one. I would suggest looking at and testing all of them so you really know the difference and what you are buying. very well chosen car tho! :wink: good luck!

Go for a 2.0 16v. As the other guys have said, you'll get a newer car, bit more torquey too than the 1.8 16v. Had two 2.0 16v's and been in a 1.8 16v several times and there's nothing in it speed-wise.

 

Don't even think about a VR if you want to save money. Fuel costs are rediculous! Then again, it's worth it (IMHO) :twisted: .

That's what I've got....but like the other guys said running costs and general maintenance aren't cheap (but cheaper than VR's or G60's)

 

I needed a new ignition module which was £180, VW only part! etc etc etc

 

I've had a few problems with my C, but to be fair there is no way I'd get rid of it....its too bloody nice :D :D :D

Thanks to ALL you guys ^^^^

 

It seems some owners/dealers have told porkies; many claiming the active spoiler was only a stick on bit of plastic.

 

2.0 16v seems best bet for my budget (if only i could afford a VR6). I know reliability is not in the same legue as many modern cars but its still a solid VW.

 

Problems selling my Golf, means budget is closer to £3k, but this seems to be the common price for the 2.0.

[the Golf is in good nick, but bad time of year to sell and i cannot justify £35 advert for a £300 car]

shove it in the for sale section here if its priced right it should sell

Im sure the lads could suggest other sites too.

 

I would go for a 16valve of either description,preferably with leather but not lunar milage and you will always sell it

 

I know you pay a premium for a low miler but shove the spare wad in the bank and buy a good looking high miler.

 

as nelson says thing still go wrong with low milers as very standard as womans car is

I had a water pump o ring seal go with 52k on the clock,complete with bashed knuckles :|
