So.....how many 8v owners on here? ((echo))

Recommended Posts

Anybody? Or at least has anyone driven one before?

Just need to know how they compare in terms of general day-to-day driving when compared with a 2.0 16V? :)

Reason I ask is, 8v's seem to command about £500 less than the equivalent 16v's despite being in same general condition. Me not being much of a speed freak, just wondering if they really are as bad as people portray them?

Mine WAS an 8v.

I loved it

it put out 137BHP at dubsport.

nice torquey motor. needs a decent cam in it though to liven up the top end.

People who portray them as bad probably haven't driven one.

I know I'd much rather have a 2.0 8v over any 1.8 16v that's for sure.

I would have thought so.

My mate got cracking results off a 2.0 8v with a piper cam in it.

apparenlty the cam specs were very mild due to the cat and emmission bollocks. not sure how true that is though.

I had a 94 with AMD remap, K&N and Supersprint exhaust and it put out 127bhp and torque was about 120ft-lb. Before the remap etc it was shit. Just felt too slow but I dont think it was in all honesty. Probably the most sensible and economic one to run everyday.

I got rid off it and went for a G60 as I wasnt going to pay for the insurance for a car that didnt excite me.

2l 16v is far better.

137bhp is about the standard unmodded bhp of a 1.8 16v, IIRC the 2.0 16v is about the same as they added a cat which restricts the power a bit, but it has more tourqe. I guess the best way to find out is to test drive a few and see what you think.

it also depends if you like to screw the ass out of your car to get it to go!

I generally love screaming mine into 7 grand so prefer valvers to 8V's

Horses for courses, it's still a c at the end of the day!
