Neil L. 0 Posted December 29, 2004 Just attempted to change the rear wheel bearings on my 94' VR6 but couldn't get the callipers apart to remove the hub. I tried to undo the two bolts joining the calliper - but bolts just seems to turn without coming loose. Have u got to hold something with wrench to stop it spinning or something else? Gave up after 1 hour - freezing outside! Any ideas?
Banana Man 0 Posted December 29, 2004 hmmmm are you sure the bolts are definately turning?? they are just normal m8 bolts iirc but They usually seize up and you end up rounding the head inside as it's an allen key head. Get some heat on it with a blow torch, if the head is knackered get an m8 splined bit and hammer it in ( will need new bolts afterwards) usually gets rounded allen heads out for me. Good luck
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted December 29, 2004 Do you mean the two bolts that hold the caliper to carrier with some rubber belows in front of them? If so, then yes you need to hold the bit next to the bellows still with a 15mm spanner whilst you undo the 13mm bolts. You get replacement bolts with the pads. If you mean the caliper carrier bolts, then yep they are prone to siezing and should be replaced with normal hex bolts after you've got them out. Neil L. 0 Posted December 30, 2004 Cheers kevhaywire, i did mean the two with the bellows between - only prob is I'm not doing the pads, only the bearings so i wont have replacement bolts. Is this the best way anyway as i want to save on garage bills ( Quoted £35 a side )
