Jstar 0 Posted January 13, 2005 Hi Guys My C has gradually reached a point now were I have to get the water in the car sorted. After coming back to the car after a short time the front drivers side bottom corner is misted up and the rear window is soaking with condensation ( a full chamiose to clean). All other windows are ok. I've read on the forum that it could be the dreaded heater matrix, leave, crisp packets, if I park my car down hill, etc, etc. Any ideas. So far I recon its a dodgey seal on the rear boot lid. Cheers
h100vw 0 Posted January 13, 2005 If it's the matrix, you'd know about it. Mine went yesterday and it filled the car with steam in a second. Bad window seals can let a fair amount of water in, especially if the door membrane has gone as well. Back light seals can also be a suspect. Check the spare wheel well. The water will go for the lowest point. Gavin
Phil K 0 Posted January 15, 2005 imo every C I've been in suffers from hideous amounts of condensation and it doesn't seem to matter if it's pre matrix failure or after. My C has been standing for some months now and as soon as we fired it up last week to take it for a test run that was it, bang, no clear glass to be seen!!! As soon as it gets back home I'll be stripping the interior and going round it very carefully to check for possible leak points and to generally clean everything up... with some luck that'll sort it! If you manage to find a leak and get it sorted it's probably worth keeping the windows open a touch for a few days to get some air through and help it dry out... Good luck
h100vw 0 Posted January 15, 2005 Having done my matrix, I found tons of water in the footwells. I have a dehumidifier. So I ran an extension lead out to the car and set it going last night. No condensation in my car this morning. I will need to so this a few times I think. I am also driving around with the heater on and no mats to try and dry the carpets out. kangaroo 0 Posted January 17, 2005 Having left mine for about 3 weeks over xmas/new year I came back to find the windows steamed up in about 30 seconds of driving down the road. My Golf had terminal condensation problems, I never sorted it... Looks like the C will continue the tradition. One thing to remember: even though the carpets may not feel wet to the touch the sound-padding and footwell beneath may still be soaking. If in doubt lift the carpets to check.
