ABS Warning Light

Hi Everyone

I hope someone can help with my problem. I have a 1994 VR6. I had a new clutch fitted a month ago and since then the ABS light comes on all ther time and will not turn off. I have taken out and cleaned all the sensors without success. Can anyone help??? :(

You'll need to plug it into VAG.COM to find out what is causing the problem, If it happened since the clutch tho I would take it back to the garage and get them to sort it!

I have had a mate chuck it onto the VAG machine and it comes up with fault code 00276, which apparently is a left rear abs outlet valve. I guess this indicates a possible problem withthe ABS modulator

Spooky. I've been getting N176: rear left outlet valve on my VR ever since the timing chains and clutch got done..

I have a replacement modulator unit to go on when I get round to it, but I wondered if it was related, too.

Oh yeh, i see, get out of the car, roll up my shirt sleeves and pop the bonnet whilst at the side of the road and hit the brake stuff randomly till the light goes off. Cheers :lol:

 

Does the manual state that you should STOP immediately?

Im guessing it was just an electrical fault as when i stopped and restarted it went off and stayed off. Brake fluid top.

It says that the brakes will work ok, but without ABS functionality, so you should go to your dealership ASAP and get it fixed.

 

"how do you proceed" is really dependant on what's wrong, which you can't tell without plugging in the diags stuff..

It's not dangerous, you could even choose not to have it fixed theoretically and just remove the warning light. There are still many non-ABS cars on the road, it just looks like your Corrado has become one of them.

 

The fault code refers to the abs pump I believe. If a specialist can confirm this is the case you would do well to source a replacement pump from a scrapyard. You don't want to know how much they cost new!

Add me to the ranks of people with an ABS problem now. The light came on the other day and stopping and restarting the car cleared it (guess who works as a computer technician eh?) ... and then its been random for the past few days as to whether the light extinguishes or not. And today its been on both in the morning and on the way home tonight.

 

Funny thing is if I turn on the ignition, the ABS light starts as usual and you hear relays click and stuff and it goes out - start the car and the ABS light is back on again? Can the ABS light indicate other such things as pads needing changing or brake fluid problems or is it specifically to indicate a problem with the ABS system somewhere?

Or like mine when i bought it, the guts of the light were missing, so i was only left with the plastic case... My fault for not checking it i suppose :oops:

 

Turned out they were covering up a fault (N176), which in this case was genuine. ABS modulator replaced, and the fault disappeared, but it took another 3 years to find a new ABS warning lamp!! I refused to pay the ridiculous amount VW wanted.

my ABS light came on last week and i think ive found my problem :shock: ........water has been dripping from above the ABS ecu and getting in to the unit........so far(touch wood) its only been one isolated incident and hopefully its been cured by removing all the crap(leaves etc) from the scuttle area but might be worth checking if your footwells(passenger side in RHD) are a bit damp like mine was last week :shock:

Hmmm, I have had an intermitant ABS light on prob for a couple of weeks. Ever since I jet washed the engine and sprayed a ton of Gunk degreasant all over it.

 

Please tell me it could be water getting into the electrix. I cant afford ££££'s for something I dont use.

 

ABS is for girls any how. If you get into a dodgy skid situation just pretend your brake pedal is that Crazy Frog. Stamp, release. Stamp, release 50 times a second!
