HARDWIRING into 12V

Recommended Posts

Hi all

have been trying to hard wire the phone charger and roadangel leads into the back of the cigarette lighter....anyone got any do's or dont's (yes I'll disconnect the battery)

Do I need the 12V resistor on the power lead?

there are three wires coming out of the cigarette socket - anyone know what the third is for?

cheers

would be interested to know if anyone has done this :)

pull the fuse for the fag lighter then check you have no voltage, easier than reseting the dash and radio.

I'd put a fuse in, just to be sure, but there is no need for a resistor if you are taking it off the original fag wiring, only things is, just dont use your fag lighter with it all wired up, could be to much load on the wire

You guys kill me, we have a totally different meaning for the word 'fag' over here and you usually wouldn't use it unless you wanted to fight.

You will find 3 wires on the cigarette lighter, one red & gray stripe which is power, one brown which is ground and the last is gray & blue stripe which is the dash lights. The lighter is the only item on this circuit so you will probably be fine hard wiring the phone as there is little chance of shorting anything out. I try to use battery power & a extra fuse for most electrical appliances to reduce the load on the cars wiring system.

Cheers, Dennis

We use that same word too for insulting some people who are inclined to....... drive up one way streets in the wrong direction  (No offence intended to anyone!!)
