Graham_E 0 Posted May 12, 2005 Do new windscreens, come with rear view mirrors bonded on? reason i ask is gave my dad and one of his mates a lift, dads mate is tall too say the least...f*** knows how his done it but he went to get out sitting in the front, nutted the rear view mirror took it clean off and it took a chunk of windscreen with it! so need to get a new screen now
Banana Man 0 Posted May 12, 2005 new screens just come with the plate bonded to the screen and then the rear view mirror twists onto the plate if you catch my drift. A new screen from vag is £170+ vat iirc and then you gotta get it fitted. I had a hell of a job trying to get mine done as my insurance didn't cover glass and all the big names like autoglass, RAC and all that, mainly do insurance work so they wanted around £500 to get the job done. I got it done for £180 all in in the end but the guys who done mine were a bunchn of cowboys and completely f*cked it up and had them out twice to sort it out. Graham_E 0 Posted May 12, 2005 yep catching ya drift perfectly, so all i gotta do with the old mirror is try and get that plate off then. One good thing though, can get the trim round the outside edge of the windscreen where it wasnt fitted correctly before replaced, looks minging at the moment. Also comes with the trim at the bottom as well doesnt it? Ive got windscreen insurance, so hopefully shouldnt cost much more than 50quid
Banana Man 0 Posted May 12, 2005 Are you covered for glass on your insurance?
Banana Man 0 Posted May 12, 2005 If you are then they should replace all the trims at the same time ome of them across the top is underneath the bonding for the screen anyway which will definately need to be replaced when the new screen gets put in. Banana Man 0 Posted May 12, 2005 Generally most insurance companies are like that but saying that Brentacre have been great I got straight through to them today and they sorted me out the quotes really quickly.
Graham_E 0 Posted May 12, 2005 insurance is up at end of next month so elephant wont be gettin my business, they want some silly amount for my engine mods. Ive heard that brentacre amongst others can insure you up to a certain BHP rather than per each particular mod, so that would be very handy.
Banana Man 0 Posted May 12, 2005 Yeah if you phone them ask to speak to John he sorted me out when I was declaring all my mods and he knows what he's talking about unlike most other insurance companies. With Brentacre you insure the power of the vehicle not the mods but you do obviously have to fill out a mod sheet whebn you take a policy out with them so they know whats fitted and they also repair like for like so if you have a modded bumper they will replace it for the same. The underwriters are actually highway policies which I was also with when I was going through HIC.
Phil K 0 Posted May 13, 2005 are there any VAG cars that have rear veiw mirrors that attach to the mount in the same way but are different i.e. different colour plastics or even a TT mirror? might have to look into this as that could be the next big mod  8)
