Kev,

that was Vince who took a look and priced them up. it basically snapped alot of bits inside the gearbox

i nearly fell off my desk!

Yep, I noticed that in an earlier post.... his standard rebuild price is £550 inc parts, so yours needing £700 just in parts = chunky damage!

was all down to a 3in nylon linkage juat behind the gearbox

Atif - When my C (1995 VR6) suddenly wouldn't go into 1st 2nd and reverse three years ago and gear lever felt flabby, AA man immediately spotted breaking plasticky part in engine compartment. He fixed temporarily with superglue and cable ties.

I got part fitted at VW garage it is called a "carrier" and is part no. 1J0711256 £7.33 plus VAT.

If you stick your head down in the engine compartment (passenger side) you can reach in and fiddle with linkage and maybe confirm if this is indeed the problem.

Hope it is something simple like that before you go dismantling stuff inside car!

Has any body got any pictures on this?

Will have a look today but im not sure what i should be looking for???

Neil
