balboa 0 Posted June 6, 2005 Hi All, i have some bbs rms that are 7" or 7.5" wide...ive been told the correct tyre size for these wheels are 205/50 r15...by the way there gonna go on a mk2 golf gti ...the price for 205's compared to 195 are about £20 more per tyre..so to save money would i be ok to use 195/50 r15 on that width...i hope i make sense...thanks for reading
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted June 6, 2005 205/50/15 is an uncommon size, hence the price difference. 195 will be OK on a 7" but might look a little stretched on a 7.5". I'd personally spend the extra on 205s, which can be had for very cheap prices at places like camskill or mytyres.
balboa 0 Posted June 7, 2005 will i need to modify the arches if i go for 205's...the car is currently on koni fk coilovers and dropped by about 40mm...thanks
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted June 7, 2005 Nah....you can go quite low on 205s without touching the arches, so long as the wheel offset is within spec.

gradeAfailure 0 Posted June 8, 2005 Errrr, std size for 15" rims on a MK2 Golf would be 195/50-15, would it not? I know it's fine for a 7" wide wheel, so wouldn't have thought the stretch on a 7.5" would be too bad?

I'd agree with Kev - cant see 7.5" taking a 195 too well. Bite the bullet if you've got 7.5's, cos they'd even take 225mm. I've got some 15x7" BBS to go on, just bought some Dunlop 195/50ZR15 SP9000's, for a very low price. Next time I will buy 205's (/50/15), look better, but tramline a tad. Check Mytyres or Topgear for keen prices
