TomB 0 Posted June 14, 2005 Car's in the garage (again) with either a blown head gasket (fixable under warranty for nowt) or a knackered head/block. Even if it's going to cost me nothing to put right, I'm beginning to be ticked off beyond imagining with owning a Corrado, as I seem to be cursed at every step. Anyway, it being a valver and all, I'll probably have to pay somone to take it away, however, if people could give me an estimate on what they think it would be worth with/without engine I'd be grateful. 1990 H reg 1.8 16v in Tornado Red (no rust as all 3 small patches professionally re-sprayed 10 days ago). If engine is only the gasket, then the spec will be: full head re-build 3 months ago with new tappets, exhaust cam, cam timing chain, timing belt. Running 2 exhaust cams, K&N panel filter. (approx 131K on block) Full Stainless Powerflow Exhaust Lowered (50mm?) on G-max shocks & Eibach Springs. G60 BBS Alloys New brake pipes all round in November Full CAT1 Cobra Alarm & Immobiliser (Installed in November) Black interior with worn bolster on drivers' side. One of Gavin's fantastic headlight looms. Working sunroof, windows, spoiler, wipers. Broken Odometer. If/When I decide to sell, I'll post up in the appropriate section. Thanks, Tom
VR6 0 Posted June 15, 2005 £1200? Any less and you'd probably make just as much by breaking it.
Jim 2 Posted June 15, 2005 Na.. gotta be worth a bit more i'd say with all that work done. £1,500 definately.
Walesy 0 Posted June 15, 2005 i reckon if you put it up for 1500 you should expect to get around 1200. unfortunatly valvers just aren worth much at the moment.....and for whatever reason, red 'c's dont seem to fetch the same money as other colours. shame you've got that pissed off that you want to sell though. VR6 0 Posted June 15, 2005 Yeah - I think it's marginal though when you start talking about a few hundred quid. I think the mechanicals sound good, so bodywork will probably play a big part in the value. Don't forget that an engine rebuild could just as well put some people off. At the end of the day, it's worth a combination of what someone's willing to pay and what the seller is willing to accept.
H8RRA 0 Posted June 15, 2005 personally, i've bought 2 vr's that needed head gaskets for 1500 and wouldn't touch a valver for anywhere near that. I'd suggest just sticking a gasket on - if its had a head rebuild and everything else is in order it may just have been poor workmanship and may cost less than £50 with oil cx etc and its sorted. worth a shot
TomB 0 Posted June 15, 2005 Well, it's got a reprieve for the moment, according to the garage it's the new gasket that's blown on cylinders 1 & 3, so that'll all be under warranty from the work they did a while ago. I'll stick with it for the moment, as if I sell, I'm just p1ssing money away. Thanks for all your input guys. Tom
