Storm Warning

What is FVWSH worth?

Recommended Posts

Hiya,

My Storm is booked for its 80k service, I have kept up on the VW stamp in the book since its always had it. I don't normally get any work done at the stealers that is outside of getting the stamp.

They have told me the 80k service is going to be £310 unless they find other things (which I get done elsewhere). That the most I have ever paid, last year it was £85 I think!. I understand this year is plugs which rams it up. Is the stealer taking the Pi$$ and is it worth it to keep the FVWSH.

Thanks, Duncan

Most people on here believe a FVWSH is worthless. Mainly because most VAG garages do not deal with the Corrado and therefore do not know how to look after them.

I've just paid for my £80k service with VW Wolsey and it came to £275 incl plugs. Your stealer seems a bit expensive.

ho hum, at least they do a good job of cleaning it :-) I don't use my local stealer as they smashed my screen last time and acted like I should be greatful that they were replacing it! they were right $%^&*£%$ about it. Mentioning no names (Dixon's VW in Lincoln) Perhaps I should get a 2nd quote tho.

Take it to an independant VW specialist like Stealth, even if you have to drive a long way you'll get a much lower labour rate and technicians who know the cars and engines well and will be able to give good honest advice about problem areas and what will need attention soon.

Most VW dealerships rarely see cars over 3 years old and have extorsionate labour rates to help pay for the glossy sites that VAG want them to maintain.

Any reasonably well read-up future buyer will value stamps from somewhere like Stealth more than VW dealer service stamps.

David.

Ah yes, but if your selling a Storm you want to find a buyer who hasn't a clue about Corrado's and is willing to pay way over the odds for a little red badge. If thats the case get the VAG history!

I suppose some of it comes down if was going to sell it and as I intend to get a respray I don't think I will for some time. I could do with someone a bit closer than stealth. I was told about the VW specialist in Lincoln, volkskraft I think they are called. Any other in my area worth checking out?

I think having any car serviced by a specialist is better than a main dealer unless you get the three years free servicing (or similar deal) with a brand new car

I would'nt trust a main dealer with my air freshner, specialist all the way..

Go with someone who has more to loose from bad feedback/word of mouth.

But there again if you go to the dealer you assume that all the points in the factory service manual will be covered. If they don't, you can sue them...

What I need to to is take it the VW for the stamp, then go to a specialist to have it checked.

.....wonder if there are any stamps on flebay....

IIRC, you can get a stamp in the book for just an oil change... ;)

now there is a though, perhaps I should get my plugs done at a specialist and let VW do the fluids. Then I can have it checked over properly

I'm very reluctant to even do that but I suppose I'll have to just for the stamp

I'll change everything else cos they are effing useless at everything!!!

I work with main dealers all the time and I would always choose to use a specialist - someone who's livelihood depends on building and then maintaining a good reputation - most technicians don't give a damn

Yeah its just a job to them and how many of the VW owners go on forums and read about what has happened at stealers around the country??? Most of them are nearly dead anyway, the new owners that is!!!

Most folk on here seem to agree on precisely that.

Go to VW for an oil change every 10k.

They'll charge you around £100 just for that!

In between take it to a specialist for anything else it needs and 5k oil changes.

dr-mat - interesting idea about sueing them. I've still got the pads / disks my ex dealer left me driving around on and am waiting for the dealership manager to get round to calling me. Might chase him soon, see how interested he really is in customer service.

Storm Warning - I thought I was doing the right thing by getting dealer service (same one for all 8 years of ownership) but now with 113k miles I realise they have not given my car the attention they should have for a few years now.

80k is an expensive one but get it done at the best place possible which is probably not a VW dealer now that the C is past the knowledge / care of their 'technicians'.

a specialist should be able to give u a stamp too..

be worth more if it was a specialist IMO

If your going to take your C to those buffoons at VW then save yourself (some) money and go to Kwikfit, cheaper, same results achieved and the same level of supercilious babble.

Most of the so-called "technicians" weren't even born when the C was made, Stealth is definately my choice for any work taken out at the mo.

I wouldn't have bought my car if it had FVAGSH, it only means neglect to me.

Sorry to bump up many days later...

anyway, I booked in with VW for my 80k service...... however, I have been thinking about it more and more, now cancelled the booking and booked with VolksKraft. I decided that on the basis that I intend to keep the car for many years that the VW stamp is highly unlikely to add any worth the vechicle that is anything like the additionally cost of the VW service, let alone the chance of risk to a shoddy job.

FVWSH was probably worth something in the first say 5 years of the cars life to the untrained eye. All I want now is the best car care I can get.

Oh, btw they quoted £140 for the service (VW wanted £320)

Sorry again to bump post up again but...

Volkskraft @ Lincoln have done my 80k service leaving me very happy indeed. The stamp its far better that the stealers one and still has the logo.

It drives so much better since the service with new plugs. Gained about 2 or 3 MPG too.

In conclusion, FVWSH will actually cost you dearly in the long run IMHO.
