I have broken my new Storm already- Help needed

Recommended Posts

Bought a Corrado Storm on Sat in mint condition & have been spanking it around since then. Drove quite hard home work today only to find coolant had sprayed all over the front nearside of engine bay.I left the engine running tho and no more coolant came out- I think it might only be forced out when its driven hard. I reckon I have blown out the gasket which lies between the radiator top hose, and the radiator itself (held on by two bolts)- I cant think where else it could come from?? Anyone had similar probs? Would really appreciate any help at all. Cheers

Get the cooling system pressure tested. to pin point the leak. far easier than guessing. unless you can see where it exactly coming from. :D

could also be the aux.coolant pump leaking.......mine was leaking and was leaving wee puddles on the g/box last year.........luckily enough it was still covered by the warranty i got when i purchased the car........otherwise look at approx £114+vat for the part and under 1hour's labour fitting

I dunno about storms but on other VWs I've had, a rad top hose leak can be caused by a soggy front or rear engine mount, especially when spanking the car around... As the engine throws itself around in the engine bay while you spank it, the top hose gets yanked around and this can cause it to leak at either end... :? I had no end of problems with this in my MKI 16V and couldn't work it out for ages until the pipe finally gave up and ripped off totally! New mounts and a 16V top hose later and all was well and good with that bit... :D Shame about the rest of the car!

Hope you find out what it is, problems like this really do my head in... :?

James (Sorry I haven't worked out how to use the quote thing yet)- Thanks for your comment. I have seen a couple of regular Corrados round Durham. There is a Silver one, A red VR6 and an older red 16valve- Maybe on of these is yours!! It looks like the radiator has gone (there is another thread on this bit). Its booked in for a new radiator with Pulmans on Tuesday. Is there anywhere else you think would be better to take it. Wouldn't mind meeting up tho- let me know when you next meet. Cheers

Would like to come but the car sprays coolant out when it goes above 3K so I am trying to leave it parked up as much as poss. I might give that place in meadowfield a try cos its only down the road. Let me know when next meet is, I read something about arnison centre meets as well.

Cheers
