head gasket....dead!

Recommended Posts

It won't need skimming providing the run out is no more than 0.5mm end to end. Just get a steel gasket from VW from a 2.0 16V (it will need slight modification to the rear locating dowel holes, nothing major, 5 mins work), emery the head and block surface and refit.

It's prolly half a day's work to a relatively novice DIY'er.

Oh and you'll need new head bolts too and they're actually one of the most expensive parts!

From memory there are 10 of them and I'm sure they're about £8 each...not cheap. You'll need to make sure you mate has a size 12 (IIRC) spline key to undo them.

10 head bolts - true

£8 per bolt - VERY false... ;) Get 'em from ECP or GSF and they're half that...

(unless you have a Rallye (1H) engine in which case they're £7 each from VW... :( )

LOL, I wouldn't use anything but VW when it comes to gaskets and bolts personally.... unless the ones GSF sell are OE victor Reintz ones.

Certainly are m8 .

Gasket sets are either Reintz or Elring - both are OE suppliers
