martinholmesuk 0 Posted October 16, 2005 Hi there, How much work is required to change the head gasket on a VR6? Not sure which bank but being a FWD I'm a little worried about access for the bulkhead bank of cylinders. Anyone able to give some tips on this? Cheers :D
conleycrew3 0 Posted October 16, 2005 not sure about vw vr engines but a st24 mondeo ( sorry to swear plese porgive me ) was quite easy even though they are generaly a pain to work on, got both banks done in a day so i cant see a vr engine being that much harder, after all they are both v6's hey?! dazzyvr6 0 Posted October 16, 2005 the vr6 has only got one head, unlike the ford v6 which has 2 heads?
conleycrew3 0 Posted October 16, 2005 dunno about the vw but ford does have 2 heads, if your right about the vw then it should in theory be an easier job?
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted October 16, 2005 Yep it's easy getting access to the VR's head (singular), loads of room in front and behind it. Once you take the inlet manifold off, you'll see that the engine itself underneath is tiny (physically). As to how long and how much work depends on your DIY skills but it's fairly straightforward. A lot of info on it present in the forum, try the searcharoo.
