can i just space my early bumpers out a bit to make them line up with the late wings?

It can be done... don't know how but biggerbigben was selling an early bumper that had been modified in this way 8)

Think he said that it was just a matter of putting a load of washers behind the mounting bracket on the bumper to space them out... let me know how you get on with this as it's got to be a better way of doing things than buying a new bumper :?
