dutch 0 Posted November 16, 2005 ok, here's the deal. as i'm sure most of you are aware i'm canadian living here in the uk for awhile....and as much as i love london...home is home...i'm planning on returning to toronto late next year. here's where the problem is....i bought a mk2 g60 early this year which i sold and bought the VR...my plan was always to ship a car back to toronto with me,,but there's a problem I finally got a letter from VW indicating the production date on my VR is Sept 92...dam!! canada has a rule that you can only import a car 15 years or older, i was hoping the date would be late 91 or early 92 so i won't have to wait so long to ship it...so i have a couple options... 1. Sell the car and buy something older 2. 0r put the car in storage when i leave and ship it Sept 07!! i'm not too keen on the storage idea since i won't be here to keep an eye on it..and start it every now and then...i was thinking of trading it for a Rallye or another mk2 g60...what are your guys thoughts? ardandy 0 Posted November 16, 2005 Option 1 - Lie! (You had trouble finding out, would they? Prob not!) Option 2 - Keep it till its older. Option 3 - Beg someone who can override the rule? Embassy? Option 4 - Give it to me. Option 5 - Say its for parts only? Not sure if that would work. Option 6 - Swap it for an older one. Option 7 - Stay here till Sept 07. dutch 0 Posted November 16, 2005 Ardandy, 1. Lieing to the Canadian goverment would be tough 2. Possibly 3. Tried begging...no go... 4. I'd sell it to u! 5. Too much work to strip to car... 6. Very possible 7. Would rather not!! :D
Walesy 0 Posted November 16, 2005 Am I right in saying that there was no valvers sold in Canada?..or is that just the States?
bcstudent 0 Posted November 16, 2005 Well, I'd say a left-hooker isn't going to be worth a great deal here so if I was you I'd put the car in storage or, better still, leave it with a trust-worthy friend until next year. Especially if it's a car you're really happy with.
dr_mat 0 Posted November 16, 2005 8 - Ship it in parts. It's not a "car" then..?
ZippyVR6 0 Posted November 16, 2005 AFAIK you will have trouble finding a VR that is 15 years old, dont think they came in till 92. Dr Mats idea sounds like it has some mileage.
dutch 0 Posted November 16, 2005 i could ship it in parts however i couldn't drive in canada after i put it back together....i think i'll store it or swap it for a MK2 G60
