Fine wine, Belgian chocs. 1 Posted December 22, 2005 Has anybody on here replaced the hinge pins on their driver door? I've got a bit of play in my bottom hinge so I want to replace the pin. Do VW use a special tool to press it out or is it just a case of swinging a hammer at it to punch it out?
saysomestuff 0 Posted December 22, 2005 I was thinking about this yesterday as i have a lot of wind noise at the drivers door. To add to the question, would a new pin make the door close tighter or would it be the catch?
Supercharged 2 Posted December 22, 2005 I think they may just slip upwards like MK2 Golfs - If so then pushing back down may sort it...
fla 9 Posted December 24, 2005 Instead of replacing the pin try loosening the hinge a placing an n-shaped shim behind to take up the slack. I did that a while back on my drivers side upper hinge to cure a slight sag. Oil and grease the pins in any case. HTH
