TSR so called performance

Recommended Posts

Do it any old how, quick as you can - £15 p/h

Don't go too mad - £25 p/h

A quality job - £40 p/h

Military - £60 p/h

Funny that the std airline rate for labour used to be $75 an hour!! And probably hasn't gone up much since 2000

H8RRA, I was at Cosford for 3 years, 85-88. Then Finningley and St Mawgan on Sea Kings, when I wasn't skiing anyway.

I even taught the Sea King Q course for Fairies. Only four, 6 week courses a year. A proper shame there was no internet back then.

Sadly it doesn't quite work like that Kev - I wish it did!

I got prices for the 120k service on my Golf TDI at VW and their labour rate works out at around £70/hour! Personally i'd consider Stealths work at £40/hour to be better (going on the work done to my mates various VW's by my local Stealer in the past 12 months) so sadly cost isn't a reflection of quality!

Yeah I know, I was just thinking aloud / day dreaming again :-)

Labour rates are just getting silly these (wouldn't be so bad if the mechanics actually saw more than 10% of it) days but the dealers are quids in tho as there are more company car owners and people that don't know how to unscrew an oil filter than there are DIY enthusiasts.

£200 oil services..... what the hell is the world coming to when oil / filter is twenty quid and the labour is £180?

Is what I want to know is if they messed up 3 of your mates' engines - why on earth did you take yours there to get work done on it??

his friend (car B6 MKD) had one of their just rebuilt never used engines in his garage which Jim swapped for an un rebuilt 9A from a passat which the friend then exchanged for a genuine VW block,,

Friend was fed up with TSR motors going wrong,,, and needed an engine quicker than TSR could build him one for the next trackday

So in effect the engine seemed like a good deal as it was just swapped for a worn 9A passat motor, no money changed hands.. and i mean what are the chances of them making 3 rubbish engines for the same person?,, :?

In hindsight quite High it would seem!!

Dont think he would of bought an engine from them out of choice,

He would of either got me to build him one or got one from stealth,,

It was just an oppourtunity at the time,,

I am building him a PROPER engine up now.. :D  :D

Ahh ok, it was supposedly an 'off the shelf' job. :(

yeap!! put together and placed on the shelf by a monkey it would seem

On a more positive note back in the days before i started messing about with cars properly they supplied and fitted a big valve head and cam onto my 1600 GTI and it has never missed a beat since,, top job  :D
